    No More 200's

Saw an ad in off road mart for an evo 200 that said that Beta are discontinuing the 200 version. Has anyone else heard anything of this? I love the 200 personally and would be sad to see it go.

    2015 Beta?

Been wondering myself. Are they making significant changes that they are waiting so long? If it's just a frame paint change and new decals we would have seen it by now.
  3. Got to the point where I needed to check how much was donated by an Alpina and how much from elsewhere. So far I know this much: 85 alpina bottom end. Later 250 top end with square barrell.not sure if sherpa or not. 199 frame with LH brake fitted. Front end I'm hoping is from the 199. Fork tubes are not tapered and the yokes have a step at the top that the tubes top out on. Front wheel looks okay hub has been black but stripped and has been laced to Akront rim with stainless butted spokes. Rear wheel is Akront but has deep sides and a kind of W cross section suspect it might be a Pursang wheel. Bondy these are some nice looking parts. Are they forsale or PX?
  4. Thanks Woody. Think I need to spend some time sorting out what I have today. Definetely want to build a trials bike so it looks like I need a motor. Hadn't realised the Alpina had a different gearbox. Do you know if the alpina used the same forks as the Sherpa or do I need to check that out also? Cheers Hoodie.
  5. I think I might build it back up modeled on a 198. The motor is PM 8506182 so I'm thinking it could be a late 85 and it has the square barrel. The frame is an early one at JB19900124. Are the motors that different between 74 and 78 apart from the neater rh side case? I'd like to put it back to silver frame and red plastics also so might be some blue plastics up for grabs. The tanks mint.
  6. I can put you out of your misery as it's me that's taken it on. Sorry John but you might be better off! It is a 199 frame but the motor is an 85 which is a 71 Alpina 250 I think. Definetely 5 speed anyway. It's a collection of good but mismatched parts. Now I just need to decide what direction to go with it.

    Brake Rotor Slop

Yeah a little movement is normal but mine got to the point where if I was turning into a steep decent and applied the front brake I'd get a breif delay then a clunk when the play was taken up. This was bad enough to throw your balance off. Replacing the bushes solved the problem and restored smooth progressive braking. Might be unusual but it can happen. The bushes are also so cheap and the job's easy so it's worth trying if your bike is older and other parts are wearing. When I bought mine it had been well used and most of the bearings needed replacing. I had play in the steering head, swinging arm, shock bushes and linkage......it's an age and stage thing.

    Brake Rotor Slop

I had this exact issue on a 2012 evo. The rotor is fitted with alloy top hat bushes. They wear over time and cause the effect you describe. They are very cheap to replace and could sort out the excess movement. The rotor should "float" from side to side but shouldn't have much play in the direction of rotation.when you apply the break it should come on smoothly and not with a delay and then a clunk. Cheers.

    Side Stand Fix.

Thanks for the suggestions. Looked at cast iserts. Do the ez lok type work okay or is it better to look at something like time-serts? The rubber stop is another issue and I'll try something like suggesred. What I was wondering about though was the front bracket, where it is parallel to the underside of the swing arm. Should there be a gap there or should this be filled with a rubber pad to stop flex when the bike's weight is on the stand? Cheers.

    Side Stand Fix.

Just got a 2012 Evo, which is a great bike, but has a really annoying stand. It just won't stay tight. When I had a look at it it had helicoil inserts that had loosened with the bolt. Tried re doing the thread repair and re asembling with new bolts and loctite but it's come loose again. Is this a common problem with the model and if so what's the best fix? Anyone tried drilling right through the swinging arm and putting long bots through from the top with nuts underneath? Other idea was going up to m10. Also should the bracket have a pad that fills the gap to the underside of the swinging arm? Any ideas much appreciated.
  11. I think the purpose of sag is to allow the wheels to stay in contact with the ground. The suspension compresses to deal with bumps but the sag also allows it to extend when you ride over a dip or a hole. The sag basically lets the wheel drop into the hole maintaining contact with the ground and therefore maintaining traction and steering. The sag will also give you the ability to pre jump or hop the wheels using the rebound from the partially compressed springs.
  12. I'm the p****d off "bloke" who sold the pipe. I sold it because I refitted the original to sell the bike, having upgraded to an evo. Not to get rid of a faulty pipe and to be frank I resent the implication. The pipe is mint, undamaged and fit my 06 rev 3 perfectly. If you have allignment issues it's not the pipe thats the problem. You must have something else bent, misalligned or wrongly assembled. Check your rad is fitted correctly and that your mid box isn't moved too far inboard.

    5 Or 3 ?

Maybe the rule needs more detailed explanation to allow it to be administered with less subjectivity. What about emphasising the stop as the fault? Continual movement with feet on the pegs being allowed, even sideways or backwards. With rules as they are it has to be a 5. Doesnt matter if the observer marks them all the same because the next observer may have a stricter interpretation and then if Dabill has a similar ride he gets a 5 and fairness is out the window. Too much pressure on observers when scores are so low and stakes so high. You have to be strict with the top guys though. They dont need a break the way the clubmen do. Maybe the top 20 should be seeded riders, wear coloured number boards and expect no favours!
  14. I was told by Birketts that the bike is due here around the end of May, so misses the SSDT. Stephen Dixon had been keen on one for the six day's but it won't be ready in time. They've had a lot of enquiries and intrest in the bike apparently. No price set yet.
  15. My favourite rider and the guy I most wanted to ride like was John Lampkin. Loved his finesse and slow controlled style. Remember watching him in his first SSDT with his uncle Mart. Shame his riding career was cut short by injury.
  16. No Sign of the Beta 200 piston on the Vertex site. emailed to enquire but nothing back yet. What piston does the Evo 200 use now? My Rev 3 has a Vertex size 63.97 C No: 05-16-10571
  17. It is a vertex piston. Thanks for that I'll have a look at their site.
  18. Finally got round to stripping the top end today and discovered that the barrel is plated. The piston is marked 63.97, 05-16 10571 and is maked C. Anyone know if that's the biggest size? Cheers.
  19. Hi got an 06 rev 3 200. Wanted to freshen it up and thought that the 200's had a lined barrel and that a rebore would be needed. Lampkin's were able to tell me that Beta changed from a liner to a plated cylinder but they were not sure when. Come the weekend I'll have a look to check but in the meantime does anyone know from experience if the bore on the 06 200 is plated or lined? Cheers
  20. I don't follow why as consumers some of us are responding negatively to having more choice in the market place. What's the problem? Most of the parts on this bike are shared with the Sherco so they have good economies of scale, availability of spares shouldn't be an issue and the much of it is tried and tested technology. Additional production costs should be limited so why shouldn't it be viable. The fact that they have gone for different hydraulic systems and so on might result in competitive pricing. This is effectively Sherco looking to corner a bigger sare of the available market by offering more options. Good luck to them. Personally I'd rather go to a trial and see variety of bikes than a sea of Evo's.
  21. I think the bike looks great and would love to see one in the flesh and try one. Not everyone likes the Sherco configuration with fuel tank not in the conventional place. I also like the fact that the radiator is better protected, plus it's not yellow. I've just remembered why I stopped paying attention to or contributing to the forum. there's a stalker on here. He lurks around waiting to pounce with the biggest load of self opinionated arrogant pish you're ever likely to hear.
  22. Hi TLTEL. I was looking at the TL250 brake plate, as it uses leading axle forks, and the slot that engages with the fork leg looks the same as the 125. I wondered if it would still fit if rotated a little. Anyone tried this? If the slot on the 125 brake plate is smaller I could reduce the size of the block on the new fork leg.
  23. Can anyone help me out with info on Honda forks? Are the Showa 33mm forks with leading axle that were used on the TLR reflex the same as those used on the TL250 and the RS200? If not what does the RS200 use and are they any good. I'm thinking about upgrading from the standard forks on my TL150 hi boy but have a bit of work to do to find out what might fit length wise and be compatible with the standard wheel and brake plate. Cheers.

    Tl150 Hi Boy

I was wondering about that too. I'm assuming he means take the originals out and replace with something better. Anybody know of a set of forks with better springs and dampers that would fit the 31mm TL forks?

    Tl150 Hi Boy

Anyone out there with a TL Hi Boy who's got a good suspension set up, or other improvement suggestions? I've got 360mm betors that I'm planning to upgrade but I'm wondering if the Hi Boy geometry would suit longer shocks. Don't want to upset the steering though. Anyone any ideas on the ideal shock length and type for this bike? Any suggestions on front fork improvements also welcome. Bog standard at the moment. Thanks in advance.
