Sheared flywheel key?

First off, I love my country. I am not too pleased with the direction of Politically Correct and Cover Your Ass that we are going in. As far as the Litigation problems in the US it is a case of "Oh my god I was really stupid, But I can't admit that. so it must be somebody elses fault for not looking out for me. or making sure I was not a dumb ****" Hardly anybody wants to take responsibility for their own actions. Lawyers were greedy wanting more business, advertise how the "common man" could profit from how the laws are written, Law suits ensue. It is winter time, if you do not clear your front walk and somebody slips on the snow or ice and gets hurt, they can sue you and win. Well Holy **** it is winter time, Where The **** do you think the snow and ice comes from??? Pay attention where you are walking you dumb *******!!!! And the parents of School age Children are making it worse by teaching their kids that it is the responsibility of "everyone else" to make the world safe for them. Better to teach the kids how to pay attention and recognize the hazards. "Don't blame somebody else for your own stupidity" Man, I need to calm down. I too use Chain saws, and various pieces of equipment. Hell, I ride motorcycles, in some circles I am considered a lunatic just for that. Wow, saw the results and the 2 ADV riders that were there had some pretty high scores. Is that because it was a super difficult day for that class or are we (myself included) current ADV riders that bad?

I see in the literature for the Access it is billed as a "Entry level bike", Hell from what I have seen it is all 2009 parts except forks, triple tree, bars, pegs, and side stand. Well side stand gets taken off right away so that don't matter. My 10 yr old Paoli forks work good now, so a brand new set should work better. Triple tree, as long as it holds the bars and fork effectively well they good to go. 7/8 bars work good just don't look as cool, big deal. Steel pegs they work better than the cast aluminum ones I have seen on the 06/07? bikes new from Sherco. So in my opinion, The Sherco Access is a competition ready motorcycle for those riding Club level and National Trials (Expert class and lower) US PRO National Class, European Top National class and WTC riders may notice a difference.

Oh and yes the backfiring problem was due to the woodruff key being sheared and the flywheel moving a bit on the shaft causing the timing to be out. Happened on my Sherco last winter. It was running great during a session of riding. Put bike away and took out 1 week later to ride, would not start and back fired a couple times. I checked the flywheel and the nut was super duper loose. The flywheel was still stuck to the shaft rather tightly but had spun on the shaft enough to mess up the timing.

I run 93 octane in my 2000 2.9, And I know my brother's 2003 2.9 will NOT run on race gas, only takes 93 octane. One of the reasons I like the Shercos.........Fuel is cheaper to run it.

I believe he wants a flywheel holding tool so that upon reassembly he can reliably hold the flywheel in place and use a torque wrench to tighten the nut to the proper torque setting. I have used a rubber strap wrench in the past. It worked once, but the next time I tried it no go, flywheel just spun. I am not real fond of the rope idea personally, I just don't like the idea of stuffing something into the cylinder that does not belong there. I also get concerned about stressing the head, head bolts/nuts etc. This is probably an unnecessary worry, but that's just me.

I will balance my 250 Ninja at stop signs, intersections, etc......(Yes, I have heard it all, not a real bike, a ladies bike.....but the price was right and gas mileage is awesome) 20" BMX bike Yamaha YFM80 quad up on the 2 side wheels, but can only do that while moving. Basically if it has 2 wheels a trials rider will try to balance it.

pjbjm, Just curious, How the HELL did that happen? Huge drop off? Tree jump in your way? Argument with the wife? Pesky little gremlins and their files?

In my opinion, if somebody is going to all the trouble of pulling engine out of bike and splitting the cases to replace the center gasket, then you might as well freshen everything else up. I know money can be a bit of an issue, but if you can afford it, do the rings, bearings, seals etc..... it will save the time and frustration of pulling it apart to do those things a little later.

spray disk with WD-40 or Armour all. Cures that pesky squeal.............although it kinda diminishes the stopping ability. Change brake pads, Or you could try that stuff that is put on the BACKSIDE of automotive brake pads to stop squealing from vibrations. Not sure if that would actually help or not. or be happy you can still stop.

I removed mine, always got in the way and pitched me sideways when sitting on a log or edge of a step. Which is really bad for me on downhill logs. I don't like downhill logs anyways and then to get pitched to the side just messes me up something fierce.

chuck the sidestand, saves weight and when resting on log or edge of big step the sidestand won't be there to pitch you to the side.

my fumes smell like sewer gases.........................oh wait we are talking the tailpipe of the bike....nevermind.
