EM (Electric Motion)

  1. Started by juanroberts,

I am trying to find the price for the french full-sized e-trials EM 5.7, but an email to them bounced back. It is a nice bike, the only major thing it seems to lack is a battery charge indicator. As an aside, if the Gas Gas comes out with their e-trials and they deliver with a clutch, let better say if they come out at all, it would be nice.

  2. I'm wondering what happened to the momentum behind Competition capable e-bikes? I have a video from 10 years ago that showed a prototype from Montesa, We know Gas Gas showed Raga on what seemed to be a solid looking prototype, where is that? the Em.7 is out there and looks like the best option available, but not much else has developed in the past few years. Beta? Sherco? Nothing that I'm aware of. There was this huge push, practically a mandate few years back by the FIM to make 4T bikes, those still are out there but with the mandate gone it seems 2T bikes are (thankfully) just as if not more popular than ever, good, but the innovation with e-bikes for Trials…

Anyone ridden one? Pretty pricey where I am but I'm still incredibly intrigued by the lack of noise and basically no maintenance. My son has an Oset 16 that can move me around with ease so I'm not too concerned about power. Anyway, really just curious about them now that they've been around for 4 or so years.

  5. Nice work on the EM by Chris Pearson at the St Davids British Championships Round, 7th of 36 in Expert. Lots of video out there but on FB so I don't know how to post it.

I ordered a ‘special order’ Escape with clutch almost 2 months ago. In the meantime, they have decieded to make a regular production ‘R’ and now they have released it. I will likely get it in a month (in the States, shipping is slow). Can’t wait!

Thought I'd share my experience of the EM5.7 I bought last autumn. First off a little background. I'm a long-time road bike rider who switched to dirt bikes a few years back because (a) exciting riding on roads is too d**m dangerous ( track days here in southern Germany were too time consuming and expensive © dirt biking I can do together with my kids (they're only young once). Before the EM my only exprience of trials was the odd borrowed ride in a gravel pit or w/e courses. My main ride is a 350 ktm sports enduro (mostly ridden on local motocross tracks) but my kids (also riding mx) started with an OSET and continue to love riding their electric trials bikes. Jea…

Looking at my first trials bike and I’m going electric so I can ride on my own property. My local dealer has a new ‘16 sport for $1500 off MSRP. I’m torn if I should scoop that up or get an ‘18. Are the motor improvements that significant or any other refinements that would make a new ‘18 a better option?

Hi, I'm considering buing an electric motion trials bike but can't justify the money for a new one. I've seen a 2018 EM sport one for sale but can't find out all the information i'd like on it. What type of clutch is it, a mechanical one like an normal bike? How can i tell the state of the batteries and are they easy available if they need replacing?

I've just bought a slightly secondhand Epure Race. First ride yesterday and I absolutely loved it. It's the Mutt's nuts, the dog's danglies, the canine's gonads, and every other euphemism you can think of. I'm now just starting on working through everything, cleaning, adjusting and learning, so I have a couple of questions to start off with: Does anyone have a clever way of refitting the chain tensioner? It came off with a mighty ping and looks like it will be a swine to get back on. Where is the oil drain plug and level window? So far I've only found the filler. Thanks.

the battery life seems to be getting very good with these and i love the idea of practicing in the backyard without annoying anyone. the only issue i could see is if wanting to ride all day the battery would eventually go, and it would be expensive to buy a second one. but seems you can recharge them to 80% capacity very quickly so would be an interesting idea to hook it up to a solar panel over the lunch break. :-)

I noticed they are no longer mentioned on Ryan Young's page and I thought he was the US importer. The EM link on Lewisports page is throwing a 404 error. The dealer listing on the Electric Motion page doesn't list Ryan as a dealer. In fact it shows no US importer at the moment. What'd I miss?

  13. For those interested, I have built a website devoted to Electric Motion trials bikes. I intend it as a give-back for all the things I've learned via the internet over the years. There is no advertising or commercial content. https://www.electricmotiontech.com/home Edit: Forgot to mention there's a very effective search tool built into the website - just use the magnifying glass at the upper right-hand corner.

I have been reading through this forum as I think about getting a second dirt bike for myself to complement my KTM 200 2 stroke woods bike. I am hoping to get some feedback on what bikes I should consider from people with experience. I am a life long mountain bike rider that got into dirt bikes later in life when I was 30 (43 now). I love riding dirt bikes in the woods, have raced enduros and hare scrambles, and ride every chance I get. The difficult part is land access and distance to drive...and kids. I can ride out of my garage and hit a mountain bike trail, to ride dirt bikes I have to drive 1 hour when I get an invite to private property, so it's never up to…

I ride classic trials in AHRMA and mountain bike. I live on acreage and I have been building a lot of technical trials section and mountain bike trails. I have a TL125 and a Sherpa T. I find that the motorcycles don't handle the tight downhill trails as well as my mountain bike. The feel too big. I am looking for an electric trials bike that can ride my trails. Do any of you with experience think that the Oset 24 might be a better fit than an EM? I have seen video of it ridden by adults and it looks about the same size as a mountain bike. I thought it would be easier to move around and lift in tight sections.

I've always loved the thought of an electric trials bike but said that I'd wait until it had a proper clutch. Now, with being on lockdown, I've had a little ride in the garden (on my petrol bike) and it's underlined how awesome it would be to have an electric bike. But, I've got a couple of questions/musings that I wonder if people have experience enough to answer: 1. Gears.. they exist for a reason - before the coronavirus hit, I was doing a fair bit of practice in mud. I learned quite quickly how important it is to use the gears to maintain grip. Using 3rd when I might be in 1st in the dry, and using 4th (with clutch) for big climbs for example. Now, with…

Did an event in Arizona where it rained. Seriously, it rained in Arizona. Dripping wet waiting in queue on second loop about midway through the loop, got a severe jolt in the left hand while soaking glove hand had finger on clutch lever and thumb wrapped around grip. Shock was felt throughout my hand and seemed to exit (enter?) at my thumb. I've done enough work with AC and DC (I'm a sparky), including some medical experiments with DC, that I think this was a real shock event. Meaning I don't think it was some nerve pinch or arthritis related garbage. I've not run an experiment on myself to calibrate sensation vs voltage (I've got some mates who would be happy to help), h…

The manual says "If you want to store the battery pack, you have to take some measures..." Before storage, the battery pack must be charged; Be sure 100% the battery pack is switched off; Recharge the battery pack every 4 week, even it is not used; Do not store the battery pack under 10°C (50F) or over 40°C (104F); Do not store the battery pack in wet atmosphere; Do not store the battery pack exposed to the sun; Remove the battery pack if necessary. note the "if" - I wonder if that is mandatory, highly recommended, or truly optional. Does anyone leave their bike over the winter in the garage, below 50F, without storing the battery?

Every EM owner will know that the commonest question is "How long does the battery last?" My answer is always the same, based on my personal experience: I usually finish a trial with the meter showing about 70% left. Now 70% at the end of a trial had me a bit perplexed. That is far better than the manufacturer's claimed battery life, and when did you ever find a manufacturer who understates anything?! So yesterday I tried an experiment. I didn't charge the battery before going out for a practice, so I started on 70%. After nearly 3 hours (so slightly less than a normal trial) the battery was down to 15%. I have no complaint because two days riding on a battery seems …
