I have a TY 175 twin shock for Vintage class. Nothing fancy or competitive, and low budget, just for fun. I also have a set of TY250 (believed A model) yokes and forks in the garage. I understand they should fit right on, same wheel, bearings, etc. BACKGROUND DATA I am 64 years old, 200 lbs, and ride simple classic lines. Nothing dramatic or big steps or drops. I ride a GasGas 2000, 200 (160 cc) in modern class and it has enough power for my style usually. And my old tank, the TY350 mono. Engine is basically stock, good running and fresh. Chassis is stock. Sammy Miller peg kits is about it. Rear shocks are toasted. I have stick and mig welding, brazing, an…

Just a thought.... Back in about 2007 I bought a TY250 twinshock as a non runner / spares bike. It has sat at the back of the pile of bikes since then totally untouched, a couple of weeks ago I spent a day digging it out and making it into a trial ready ratty hack... I rode the first Golden Valley evening trial on it and it went well. This afternoon I took it up in the woods for a play practice with a mate and had trouble shifting down through the gears - from any gear shifting to a lower one.I got around it by lifting the lever slightly before pushing down.Feels like a weak detent spring or similar to me,it doesn't jump out of any gears once selected. I'm using Land Rover…

Hello boys and girls I have few questions about Yamaha ty 250 trial 1974. I have seen this bike in local advertising and I am thinking about buying it. The seller is saying that everything is original but I have no idea so I will post some photos. I hope you can tell me if they really are. How is it with availability of parts? The seller has also said that bike was not running now for few years because of broken gas cabel. Can you tell me how much is this bike worth? Should I pay some extra attention on anything else? I want use this bike for driving around the town.

I have a 1976 TY250 and a 1976 TY175 with 250 forks. Each bike has the same issue with very poor front brakes. Holding the brake arm by hand locks the wheel pretty good – though I know it is not the same as when under riding load. My feeling is that the issue is with the cable. I purchased an OEM front brake cable for the 175 (the 250 is stored elsewhere at this time) as the old one had snapped at the perch as I was muddling with trying to get the brake to work better. The old one was not OEM. Oddly, The new cable does not fit into the 'Cable Joint' that is attached to the brake arm. The slot is too narrow. Checking part numbers, the 175 and 250 run the same cable. I orde…

Or as said any other thoughts would be appreciated, to get this fitted. TIA

I know I read it somewhere but I did not find it: I am installing new points and condenser on my TY B, I normaly set them to 3.1mm BTDC as per my Yamaha service manual ( A model ) but I remember that many don't set them at that BTDC. What is your input on that ? Thank you Guy

I have just bought a very original 1974/75 434 Ty and whilst it has a few little jobs to be done, the carb is one issue. Is it worth trying to resurrect the original TK carb or is it as people in the day seemed to agree , just get the correct Mikuni. What was wrong with the original, Yamaha even then, didn t seem to get it wrong. Thanks

Hello, the chain and sprockets finally gave up the ghost so I fitted new matching 12/51 and a 428 chain. the chain has the same number of links as the old (stretched) one, but even on the longest adjustment, the chain seems tight to me. the old set up saw the tensioner rubber resting on the swingarm, whereas now, the gap is forefinger thickness. This seems the norm from what google images tells me, but to me it seems really tight, but it seems to ride better. I am used to enduro bikes, where the chain hangs like the proverbial hammock. what do you do and is the forefinger gap about right? I dont want to bust the gearbox! cheers Andrew

  14. I just got a TY from Canada, about 3,000 feet or 1,000 meters higher than Maine here at sea level. It won't run without the choke at idle. There's green slime in the carb on everything made of brass. I'm wondering if a re-jet is required, I know it needs cleaning at least. Are there recommended jet sizes to start from? Also, someone removed the oil injection, but I see a line to the intake in the front of the carb from the pump, and I was wondering if that should be plugged off. Back in the 80's, I removed the oil injection off a Suzuki TS185, but I drilled holes above the main bearings so fuel mix could get in there and lubricate them. Before I tear this all apart…

Wasn't planning to change damping as yet anyone have any recomendations as to which oil and what volumes. Many thanks in advance.

  19. Hi Folks. Very new to to this so looking for a bit of help from people who know about TYs. I had a TY80 as a kid but haven't had a bike since then. Bought an 80 for my boy at christmas and have just picked up a cheap TY175 off Gumtree for myself. Worried I have been a bit hasty as it needs more work than I thought initially. Anyway these are the things I'm wondering. 1. The frame has some lugs and fixing points on that I haven't seen on any other TY frames. Does anyone know what these are? Is there any chance the frame is from a different bike or am I just worrying? 2. It has come with a Sammy Miller tank and seat combo. Am I right in thinking that this is an upgrade and…

Is the standard rear rim a WM2 or a WM3, mine looks so small. I think I think they had a 3.50 tyre out of the factory. I wonder if this would stop rear tyre roll with the IRC tubed 4.00x18 if I changed to an good valanced WM3 tubed type rim??? Or would I be better off running a tubeless WM3 rim and tubeless IRC with a tube? I know some will think it's cheating but can I go full tubeless rim and tyre? Cheers Bill
