I am getting ready to put my TY 175 back together. I am concerned about the gearbox bearing on the right hand crankcase half. When I took the bike apart I could see that this bearing was shielded on the side facing out and open to the inside of the gearbox. That made sense to me because this arrangement allows the bearing to receive lubrication from the oil flying around the inside of the gearbox. I ordered new bearings all around and the bearing that I received for this application was shielded on both sides...so how does it get any lubrication? Just wondering...The part was a Yamaha part with the correct Yamaha part number...So I would appreciate any advice or thought…

Help required please..... I have been offered a complete, but non running TY80 for my son to use. It's not great condition, but once running would be serviceable, and is complete. It was last running a year ago, when the current owner put new piston/ rings in, with new gaskets. He didn't get round to fitting the new throttle cable, condenser or points, but has them to go with the bike. It has good, for an 80, compression, so I am happy that this has been done. My question is, what is it worth, he has asked for a sensible offer/donation. Someone, Somewhere will have the answer.....any useful suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi, My ty250 has plenty of power, but only at the bottom end of the gears, as soon as i hit half revs and upwards it just doesn't gain any power at-all, which means i resort to staying in the bottom end of the gears. At first i thought that this was obviously how the trial bike was designed, not the top end aggressive nature like a motocross bikes. But my friend has one also, and pulls through the gears no problem. I have a ty175 also and i sometimes think that it is definitely faster than my 250, no power issues at-all. I have changed the gearbox oil, put in a new spark plug, cleaned and checked my air filter and cleaned out my front exhaust but to no avail. I dont w…

I have a TY250 Mono fitted with 'Shirt/Grimeca' front disc conversion. Does anyone know what the individual componants are from? Looking to replace the pads and probably the disc but need some guidance on getting the bits. And Yes, I know the brake is worse than the drum but thats what I am stuck with.

Hi, I've just acquired a 1979 Ty175 majesty and whilst I intend to trial it, the tank needs painting. So, I thought I might just as well try and use the correct white. Can anyone please tell me the paint code for the tank, same for the frame. Thanks

  14. Hi all, Does anyone know of any useful mods that can be made to my mono to help it to stop. The bike is great for most things but the drum brakes can be a handful. I want to keep the bike original so wont put discs on. I usually clean the brakes out after 3-4 rides and rough up the pads/drums. Cheers

  15. Does anyone out there have a spec on the proper compression reading for a TY175? My gauge showed 110 ft. lbs. Curious to know if that is low or adequate. The bike started running poorly although seems to have decent power. Symptoms are occasional backfiring, some surging on throttle shut-off and possibly a touch of pre-detonation (I'm not exactly an expert at knowing what I'm hearing). Air filter is clean. Time for rings? Bad gas? Any advice appreciated. Thanks,

hi to all i'm building a tricky ty 175. i rode it yesterday, and the engine doesn't revs freely as it should be. y have an electronic ignition "ty trials" 'bouhgt at bultaco uk and a mikuni 24 mm flatslide. could somebody give me a basic jetting for this carb. the engines runs quite well, except at high revs like if it was too rich, the main jet is 130 or 140... or maybe an ignition issue? cheers nicolas

Hi all, recently picked up some ty mono spares and on inspection found a few threads stripped ( yokes spindle thread and front fork wheel spindle thread. The yoke can be recut and new nut used so not a big problem but i was wondering if anyone has had the same faulty fork leg issue and done a fix to it and if so,how ? helicoiling came to mind but i also thought about a longer spindle with the addition of a nut on the outer fork leg but dont know of one that may fit, also does anyone know the standard main jet size for an 85 ty250 mono, thanks in advance for any advice,Steve.

Fitted a talon disc brake conversion to my 84 ty mono yesterday and all is well but it dawned on me later that the caliper/pads differ from the later standard disc braked mono. The parts although dusty from 10 + years in the shed went straight on and bled up fine but pads are half worn and wondered if still available. Can not see any on the bay, anyone know if talon still make/supply them, many thanks in advance,Steve.
