Greetings, just bought a 76 ty250 fitted with a toko flat slide carb, it wont idle properly races then drops right off, is using twice as much fuel as my previous ty 250 with a standard carb, does have plenty of top end, AND does pull well from down low. has got the fly wheel weights. Plug is very black, running it on 50 /1 motul mix with 98 octane unleaded. is there any one who would know the needle and jet sizing for these carbs / bikes ? Clubman A rider . Any thoughts on this ? Thank you in anticipation. Captn T.

A mates selling his TY250A i think its a 74 model (white/ yellow tank and has TY embossed on the engine case) its bloody light and pulls very well i was wondering as this being the 1st or 2nd model TY250 that Yamaha produced was it competitive back in the day when pitched against Sherpas, Ossa MARS,Cotas etc! and would it be any good now?

I am freshening up the top end on a 84 TY250 mono. After looking closely at the new rings, Yamaha # 38v-11610-00-00 I noticed that one ring has grooves or ridges running around the sealing face of the ring. I needed a magnifying glass to see them. Would this be the lower "oil ring" possibly? Other than that they appear identical.

Just wondering if anyone can help in identifying what model my recently acquired Ty250 mono is? Frame is fire engine red and it looks like the engine number starts 88V (frame number matches up). Many thanks.

sorry chaps but i want to try and save the original footrest mounts is there any oversized footpegs ie HEBO that will fit straight on to the above! without cutting/grinding/or welding anything? also orderd a alloy miller tailpipe for my yamaha framed 250 this had to have an 1"1/2 cut of the end and a 4" alloy bracket made up to bolt it on? but sounds and looks great! tried the 10/41 final gearing and its spot on the bike picks up and feels right now! ill proberly go for 11/45 just to save less stress on the front sprocket or wouldn't this make a lot of difference? also has anyone tried the uprated fork springs that b+j racing (usa) sell? cheers Nick.

I have an oil leak from the gear selector shaft, is this easily fixed? Is it just a case of pulling out an oil seal and replacing, or will the gearbox need to be stripped. Any advice appreciated, many thanks in advance.

Any pointers for the supply of ty250 mono spares in the uk? thinking of buying a project so doing a bit of homework first before I get in too deep... I assuming it’ll need most areas looked at and rebuilt at some point... engine, brakes, linkages, rear mudguard/ seat. The gear lever looks to have been welded to the shaft... how easy is it to remove/replace the gear selector shaft? Thanks in advance...

This poor old bike has been extremely neglected by someone. Got my new tyres fitted and ready to install bearings/seals, and find my front wheel spacer between bearings was never there. Have tried the previously mentioned partzilla (couldn't access boats.net) for length of spacer but no joy. I know it's not possible to just measure up as its pressed between your wheel bearings but maybe somebody has info or a spare to measure?

I have had a bad set of shocks on one of the TY250's (leaking). Had a set of 14" shocks with great dampening but fairly heavy springs (don't know weight rating). I put these on this morning and then went out and rode several sections. When you went over an 18" log the front wheel cleared great....then the back wheel hit.... it was like dragging a brick over the log. It really showed me how much difference the spring rate of a shock effects the ride quality. We are so used to making minor changes that something like this really proves a point. Just thought I would share. Alan

I've got a bit of an issue with my 88 mono. It has trouble finding neutral. You think you have it, then it pops into 1st or 2nd. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Requesting an opinion here: Rode a Trial today. Several creek/river sections with the water probably 12 to 14" deep, also raining cats and dogs. Not in a sections but on the trail between, the bike started to run rough and finally quit (it has never done this before). Had to restart/ride a bit, restart/ride a bit then it cleared up. Ran fine for the rest of the Trial. Did I suck water into the air cleaner/carb or did I get the point wet? Well or any other suggestion you might have. Would like to solve this prior to the next Trial. Alan

Hi, I need a new rear rim for my 1976 TY175, because the present one is cracked also its due an overhaul as the spokes are corroded. The present rim is a 18 x 1.85 with 36 spokes, with a 4.00 x 18 MT43 tyre fitted. How does this size relate to a WM size rim? Any ideas on UK suppliers? Thanks Triton
