I dont get the mag myself, but heard they built a really tricked up TY175 over the first few issues, and the bike ended up getting sold. Wonder how much the bike went for, as a mate of mine used to own a TY175 in the 1970s, and is looking for another one, but doesnt want sometthing needing lots of work?

Just wanted a bit of advice on Electronic ignition. I'm thinking about fitting some Electrex World electronic ignition on my AJS Stormer and was looking for a bit of confirmation as to whether it would noticeably improve the engine pick up from low revs. The bike is fitted with points and set up 2mm btdc a the moment and does actually run a treat but I keep telling myself that static ignition like what I have can't be getting the most out of the engine. Any advice from any two stroke experts out there, I know some of you must have been motocross stars at some point. Cheers for any replies.

Hello Everyone I suspect that some of you may have owned one of the above bikes at some stage (and now decided to go a bit slower) and I am hoping you may be able to help with a problem I am having. Bought the bike sight unseen and when I got it home discovered that all that was claimed in the ad was not factual, but that is my problem now. The bike starts with no trouble after a couple of kicks. When I go for a ride, 1st and 2nd gear no problems. If I increase the revs above approx 3000rpm the bike starts to splutter and run erratically. Just does not like high revs. Things I have had checked are coil -seems fine, swapped for another spare that I have - same prob…

I'm riding 1970 Montesa Cota 247. I'm beginner and stating to compete in vintage trails events, meaning riding in woods. My bike has 10/48 sprockets set. The Cota manual indicate that the factory bike has 11/46 set. The difference is about 12%. But what does it mean? My main goal is to ride as slowly as I can in 1st gear and maintain smooth acceleration when needed. Does the 11/46 ratio is slower then 10/48? Should I changed back to the factory setting?

The carb on my Montesa Cota is worn out and distorted. The bike is a 1972 Montesa Cota 247 frame number 21M8xxx (mk4 silver frame). It currently has an Amal Mk1 627/414 which doesn't seem to be listed on the Amal website, is this really a Cappra or scorpion carb? I'd like to replace the Amal, can anyone advise what the correct carb is for that year i.e. 627/427 etc? The Amal site offers a number of options for a '72. I'd like to keep it simple and original and stay with the Amal. Thanks

I need some help here please. I have a 247 Cota around 74 75 vintage on standard bore (72.58) that has bad rattles in the top end. New rings, pin, bearing have not done much to stop the problem. I bought a new piston and rings advertised for a Cota 250 (72.75) (made in Italy) but have found that under the original packaging they are marked for a Bulty 250 Sherpa. That was crossed out and Cota written in texta. Both pistons are nearly identical. Original Cota has a port on the intake side with oval ends, the new one has a port with rectangular ends. High and low skirts appear to be the same. Ring pegs on the old one are at the front, the new one has them at the rear…

My KT250 needs to have the under-engine frame rails pounded back away from touching the engine. Again. I'm very tempted to just cut them out and go with an aluminum plate shield instead. What's the usual thickness and material used for this application? 3/16"/4-5mm and 6061-T6? Is there a bit of air space left between the plate and engine or do you run a sheet of conveyor belting or something similar in there to add some additional cushion? cheers, Michael

Has anybody on here had to date a Seeley for registration purposes. If I want to date a Yamaha I know to write to Yamaha and obtain a letter. But who sorts it out to register a Seeley. Luckily my Seeley is registered, I am enquiring for a mate who wants to register his bike. With the bike being made in such a small number I wonder who has the relevant info. Thanks in advance. PS What after market shocks do you find work well on a Seeley. Thanks
