  1. Started by rock hopper,

What is point gap and timing for 349,also do they use the same points and condenser as a 348!

  2. Started by drowned rat,

I was wondering if any of you guys could point me in the right direction regarding a 78 349 Cota I have. Firstly the front brake is poor, new cables, new shoes but still the lever feels very spongy and will touch the bars. The brake does work but won`t lockup, doesn`t inspire confidence ! Secondly, the front forks have air valves on the top, is this for assisting the damping with air or for letting air out, get different reports from different people. I have never had a Mont before so can`t tell if it is a quirk of the model ?. Thanks

Hello I have just bought a 349 mark 3 in bits.I have managed to rebuild most of the engine but im not sure how to line up the gear selector mechanism to the selector drum. What position does the drum start from and how do all the marks line up.Managed to get a parts book but there are no descriptions on how to set up the engine or ignition timing. If anyone knows where to get a proper workshop manual or could give me some advice on the above it would be much appreciated cos im dying to get on the thing. cheers.

I'm sure I read a thread where someone was playing with jets to get a Montesa running smoothly but I can't find it! Was I imagining it, was it another bike altogether, anyone help as I'm very interested... Thanks! Steve

Hi Just a thought has anyone on the forum ever done a front disc conversion on a 348/349/350 - I have seen a picture of one on a local SA auction site - Looks like they used a Japanese front end. It would upset the authenticty of the bike, but would certainly make long descents less hair raising than with std Montesa brakes. Ian

I have managed to get a look at a Cota 349 tha was given to me & was surprised to see a grey frame, red tank & red mudguards - The paintwork looks original - frame/enginenumber is 51M26351 Bike is tatty but all there! It has been standing for years- front shocks are sticking, back shocks may be leaking, motor kicks over with a very healthy compression. When I get it my plan is to check it over give it a thorough service, chec all the brakes bearings etc. & then take it to a trials My questions - Is the grey frame an original colour? - What should I check/clean service before I try to start her - Where can I get decent brake shoes - so she stops in th…

I had a problem with my 200 Fantic running 'rough' missing or 4 stroking is the only way to describe it. I found a partialy blocked pilot jet, could this cause the problem described?

Hi, Need new tyres and I'm wondering if I can use a 4.10 instead of a 4.00 on the rear of my MAR 250? I do mainly country road riding and a bit of green laning, so I'm looking for a tyre to suit and the tyre I'd like to use only comes in a 4.10! Thanks Andy

  12. Started by Twinshockandy,

Anyone know if the motor of early 123/172 cota (red one) will fit into later 200 frame ? Am running a 123 with 400x18 rear tyre, and clearance in swing area isn't good to all.........easiest way would be to find a 172 swing arm, but they seem like hens teeth in the uk I'm aware exhaust/silencer is different on the 200 cota

Hey guys, New to the forum, but I think you may have the expertise I need. For Christmas I bought my girlfriend a 1976 Ossa MAR with a strong running engine, but standard wear from being stuffed in a barn. At this point we've stripped the whole bike down and all that's left is an engine with a header pipe on it, and the frame around it. Question 1) Can I take the frame off without removing the cylinder? I hadn't planned on messing with the engine as it's running fantastic, and not looking forward to getting killed with price and shipping considering the dollar to the euro/pound. Question 2) How the heck do I remove this header pipe? I am only 23 and havn't yet dea…

I own a 76 OSSA 250 MAR with the AMAL 627 Carb and have not been able to find any information on this Carb as most of the machines imported to Canada came with the IRZ unit. I am attempting to obtain the original stock configuration Jet sizes(Pilot, Needle Jet, Main Jet) and part numbers for various items(Needle Jet Holder, Float Needle, Float Needle Seat, Carb Gasket and O-Ring Kit)), along with the settings for the Pilot Air Screw, Throttle Stop Screw and the appropriate Clip setting on the Needle. I would if possible like to find any servicing/overhaul/parts information pertaining to this Carb in print(or digital) if available. Can anyone provide any assistance or dire…

Could anyone give me some info on Italajets. I am concidering a 83 350 right now for my vintage class ride for no other reason than to have something different. Im sure parts are difficult to get and no one around my way seems to know much about them. This alone should deter me but it has not. If anyone has some info or opinions I would love to hear them. Thanks Aaron

A chance for all of you with twinshock and Pre65 machines currently languishing in sheds, gardens and garages to get them out (ooer missus) and give them an outing in the Classic Experts run by the Rhayader Club. A good traditional trial with roadwork around the beautiful Rhayader countryside which has some of the best trials terrain to be found. Two routes, Expert/Clubman, so something for everyone, with sections comprising streams, roots, banks, gulleys etc. Organised by the enthusiastic Malcolm and Anne Bates, the trial desrerves to be well supported so dig out those old bikes and use them for what their creators intended. Regs details should be in TMX - secretary i…

I have so short fingers that I have difficulties to reach the standard Amal levers on my Cota 348. Anyone has adjustable clutch and brake levers on twinshock trials bike? Your opinions and experiences? Are those ones too modern on a twinshock trials bike? Surely have to buy or make new cables?
