I am looking to make an aluminimum brake lever fo my Cota 200 on my new fangled milling machine!!! What grade of ally should I use? I must have fallen asleep during Material Technology when I went to Tech many years ago!!! Ian

A friend of mine (no really!) has just bought an Ossa Gripper and is wondering whether there is a better carb to use than the standard Amal. Has anyone successfully fitted a Dellorto or anything else to a Gripper (250) and improved the carburation?

Hi all looking for the distance between holes on the front wheel stay, dont think mine is right as I went to fit a new cable today and it wouldnt fit think the hole centres on the bracket is wrong. thanks Could have things the wrong way around also, cable adjuster is on back of the fork leg, should it be on the front wheel stay on the front?

When I got my TLR200 it had all the lights, speedo and ignition switch installed and so I removed all of these except the ignition switch as the mounts had to be ground off in order to remove it. I have just been doing a tidy up and I had triple clamp off and so I decided to remove the ignition switch and what was left of the wiring harness. Now it won't kick - completely dead. I have had the bike complete stripped engine out etc I can get measurable power (multimeter) from black/red lead from the alternator and there is only the green, black/white, black/red and blue/yellow and plain black leads from the CDI - should be simple but even with the kill switch disconnect…

Hi all I need to get my fork tubes re-chromed on my Fantic 200, but Ive heard somewhere I can buy new ones. Is this true and if so does anybody know where from, Cheers Mark

Convinced myself that i needed a twin shock "project" and picked up a 1984 Montesa 242 in reasonable shape. It seems to be nearly all original but the airbox to carb rubber is split and the silencer (tail pipe) is missing. From what i've seen these seem to be a very narrow "pea shooter" type. Does anyone know if they are available or what a suitable replacement might be please? New, used, broken, i'm not fussy. I've yet to start it up but have had a nosey in the gearbox side (which was oilless!) and the selector shaft seems to have been repaired at some point. Is this a Monty weakness? Any other tips, hints, opinions and disparaging remarks are invited. Roy.

Just been nosing around on Todotrial Classic and noticed that there is a 6 round European championship for twinshocks this year. This is good news, not only out of interest as to who will contest it (some 'past masters maybe) but also because the events in Belgium, Germany and Holland are within reasonable travelling distance, being not too far from Calais so it is not beyond the realms of fantasy that some UK riders could take some of them in, particularly as they are all 2 day events. My Armstrong CMT310 with the Hiro 323cc engine starts pinging about 30 minutes into a ride. I am running premium fuel with an octane booster and an NGK BP6ES plug. The ignition is a Kokusan CDI, can the timing be adjusted with this ignition? All I can find in the hand book is to center the screws in the slots on the stator backing plate. Anyone have any ideas to try? I have a spare CDI unit and have swapped out the original but stil have the same problem. Rick

Hi all , I've just obtained a set of 12.5 inch eye to eye long telesco shocks from a forward mount sherpa ... I got them to go on my boys TY80 big wheel project as the dimensions are perfect ... But they are not in hand yet , and the seller said the seals leak abit ... So before I get a set of falcons built for this experiment , does anybody know if seals are available for these old shocks ? Or do I disassemble them , measure the seals and pray I can duplicate them ...! Thanks , Glenn

Hi all, I have changed my front tire out (after much learning, trials, and tribulation [see what I did there?]), only to find that my front wheel is offset. Its not crooked, so to speak... its just not centered and I cannot figure out why it would be like this. It is sitting to the left-side of the bike. It doesn't wobble when it turns, its just not centered between the forks. Everything is fitting back together the way it should to my knowledge... I made sure to key up the speedometer and the drum will even bolt in as it should... anyone seen this before or have any idea what I may have done wrong? I have a pretty nice fiberglass tank that has original paint and matches the...um...patina, shall we say, of the rest of the bike. What I've got is a very minor looking ding on top of the tank, but it weeps fuel. Anybody got any tips for this kind of repair?

How long the front fork springs will last? I don't know the correct English word but I mean that how many years they work well before getting worn out, slack? What do you think about the front forks with fork top nuts inc. pressure relief valves? Are they much better than standard front forks?

I'm in the process of restoring 2 1972 MARs. One hadn't run in 22 years, the other last ran a couple of years ago. That bike had been sitting for a year or so then was started but only ran for a few minutes before dying. After the bike died, the previous owner could not restart the bike even though he tried many times and many methods. He eventually gave up and sold it to me. It had almost no compression. On removal of the cylinder I found the cause. The rings were worn down to almost nothing and both the bore and the piston were quite scuffed. I've sent the cylinder to Alex Snoop for a rebore and fitment of a 2nd over NOS Tarabusi piston. This bike came to me more or …
