  2. Hi All, i am in the process of building myself a unit construction BSA either C15G or WD B40 for trials, my question is simply this. how essential is the Wide ratio box. I have a C15G, which has the standard road box in it, unfortunately the B40 GB motor i bought has had the Wide ratio gears robbed and a stub tooth B25, B44 road box in it, i was assured on buying the motor it was a standard B40GB with the wide ratio box, unfortunately the owner got his facts wrong, he has offered to have it back but for what I paid I would sooner keep it. unfortunately a Wide Ratio box is going to cost in the region of £300, which is alot of money to me. I am an average club level…

I was wondering if anyone could help me identify a bsa frame. The engine is a b40 and I was told the frame is a b25. There are a couple of things that seem strange. The log book has it down as a March 65 bike, but I am pretty sure the earliest b25’s were 68. I have the frame number in the log book, but I can’t find it on the frame, does anyone know where it should be. Also it seems like the frame has been modified. There should be 2 center posts, from the foot pegs up to the front of the seat. It seems like these have been modified to one center post. After having a look on google I can see a couple of b40 trials bikes that look the same. Does this lo…

Hey i have a Bsa B40 GD now but i would like my bike to be a bit more nervous and powerfull. the bike has a standard piston for now but i would like to know if there if a piston available that gives higher compression (from a road version of the b40?) and can i just change my piston ( it has a flat surface) for a high compression piston or do i have to balance the flywheel and do other stuff to my engine? best regards bob

I have acquired an Otter (Faber) framed B40 with Betor rear units. They measure up at 13.4 inches between bush centres. The bike seems low at the back and could do with more ground clearance. I disconnected the rear units and jacked the bike up under the bash plate and it looks better with about 14.75 inches between the bush mounts, giving about 12.5 inches of ground clearance. Any suggestions please? Sherpatensing.

I would appreciate some assistance on two AJS fronts if anyone out there can help. Firstly, I have a firend with an AJS 16M (mag in the front) engine who is converting it to trials - any ideas on where to get trials cams? I am told that the ex-WD G3L cams are favoured but woud be interested to hear opinions and some help sourcing the parts. Secondly, I have just purchased an AJS 37AT, a 1969 fairly rare beast that was partly assembled by Cotton using the Villiers 37A engine. It was only produced in 1969. I need a chainguard, airbox and left hand side panel or photos of them os I can have them made. Any information on this bike would be most welcome. Cheers,

Just a thought but how alike or far apart might be the Ariel replicas similar to the one that recently won in Scotland from GOV 132 which I presume was state of the art at the time when Sammy Miller rode it.

I'm in the middle of rebuilding an M20 BSA engine for a customer.I bought a big end assembly made by Alpha in Dudley,(From another supplier)on assembling it I found it was going to need altering - because the flywheel tapers were badly machined in the flywheels themselves.(The conrod had too much side clearance with the previous big end) machining tapers is not an easy task but when I called Alpha they offered to sort it out for me so I posted it to them on monday at 4pm.It came back in the post today at 10am,with the requested 17thou removed,it now has 10thou of side clearance as it should. All done FOC. They didnt even charge me postage - the crank is now built up and t…

Hi All Plodding along with my Bantam build, finally got a chance to put her up on her wheels and i've hit a bit of a problem with the sprocket alignment. The rear is a Bultaco wheel and there is no way of moving the sprocket closer to the hub without some serious machining so my question is can you offset the front sprocket? It is a D7 engine and whilist i haven't managed to measure the difference accurately yet i estimate it is about 5-6mm too far in. The other option is to move the engine over in the frame but the exhaust is already virtually touching the frame down tube. Many thanks in advance Chris

I'm in the process of disassembling a C15 that has been sitting for some time and is somewhat rusty. I can remove the nut from the fastener that holds the kicker on .....but even a sharp hit with a hammer will not drive it out. (the opposite end is round and looks like the end of a dowel pin) Does anyone know how to get this out? Does the fastener have some flat sides that keep it from spinning? While on the subject, the motor is also locked up. I have the head off and got the cyliner moved up about 1/16" but that is as far as it will go. The piston is not at TDC so even if it is the frozen piece, the cylinder should move farther. Are there any recommendations on…

  20. Started by alan,

entered a national event in 4 weeks time but last time out my bike was pinking a bit.Reading up on the internet it seems like one of the causes could be build up of carbon. I also read about a tuner in the states that gas flows heads using a sandblaster. So i thought i could kill two birds with one stone (epecially as it is so tricky to get the push rods back in). This afternoon I took the air filter out and the silencer off, fired the bike up, held it at about 3000 rpm and throw hand fulls of sand into the airbox. most of the sand seems to have come out so I put it all back together again. Problem is now that it runs really rough. I reckon it so well gas flowed I need…
