General Trials Talk

General discussion on the sport of Observed Motorcycle Trials

  1. Started by the addict,

Been a bit unlucky with this one, a small stone got wedged through the holes in the bash plate and when the bike bellied out on a pillar section we had going caused a small crack in the bottom of the cranckcase. Its not leaking very much, just a small bleed but needs sorting. Anyone got any ideas of how to seal it up without welding as its quite near the gasket and I really dont fancy splitting the engine The 4rt gets pretty hot on the cases so a heat resistant filler maybe the answer, seems theres not much pressure in the case where its split else it would have spurted out fairish. Any ideas would be great Thanks

So all of you guys that have ridden Trials in different parts of the world, whether world class or clubman etc. Have you noticed a difference in the levels of enjoyment of the sport in different areas? Can Trials clubs be close by, as in Britian where there seem to be zillions of them, and can the riding experience be radically different from club to club? When I grew up in a different part of Canada, the local trials club was a lot of fun. Then I ended up in the big city and found that while I like the local riding area, it was not as enjoyable as it used to be. I have never been to Britian, but I suspect as a Trials rider it would be great to have lots of people to …

Really dont like riding in gloves, suffering for it now with a black thorn splinter in my finger that has gone septic. Anyone else not wear gloves, looking around at my last trial I seemed to be in a distinct minority.

  5. Had some pretty grim news. Hoping for some positive feedback... Not only do they want to cut me up,they also insist on selling the trials bike and replacing it with a pushie.....may as well just f#@$%*g die. Is there anyone out there who is still riding or knows of anyone regularly still competing in trials after hip replacement.

Does any one know, what the bolt and rubber washers/ spacers are from? I was unloading our bikes out of my van and noticed them, lying on the floor.

As said , I should have put my boots on and not rushed out on a break for a quick play with only trainers on , fluffed the kick and jammed my leg in to the kick start , cracked my shin and am now paying for it . The Boss has veto'd any fun . Luckily she is out tomorrow ! http://

Thinking of getting my rims powder coated black. A mate was asking me a couple of questions about it to which I don't have the answer, so wonder if anyone can help? 1. Would the paint fill in the spoke holes on the rim, forcing you to drill the paint out? 2. Does the inside of the rim need to be done too, meaning that you have to change the rim tape? Any advice on having rims powcer coated much appreciated. Martin

Hello all. I'm a 48 year old bloke who has fancied having a go at the old feet up game for ages. I'm from Cheshire. I'm reckoning I can get myself a useable bike for about 800 quid, a twin shock type Beamish Suzuki or a TY250 Yamaha type bike. Or whatever? Where can I learn to ride? Where can I get local advice? What's the score with these bikes, I see some are registered for the road and many are not, indeed have no lights or horn, speedo etc... I have no intention of riding it on the road so what's the score? Any advice, comments appreciated. Regards Steve.

Hi all Just bought an 02 Gas Gas TXT280 Pro. Wondering what type of 2 stroke oil everyone is running in their bikes. The previous owner used Bel-Ray H1-R at 100:1. A lot of KTM guys I know are running Mobil MX2T because its readily available at Auto Zone and is also a good deal. Seems to work well also. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Three years ago I purchased an NZI Carbon Fiber helmet on the recommendation of friends...whom I now disown. It's a good helmet; light, sorta stylish, and...light. But other than that, I have been rather disappointed in its quality. The buckle rusted within the first few weeks, making it hard to snap on and off. Then the plastic cover over the buckle shattered, exacerbating the annoyance level and thumb pain. The visor seems to splinter from impacts with any object larger than a boson. And of course, the liner is not removable for washing. After a good weekend's riding in the summer I smell like a rolling cheese factory. So, time for a new lid. Now, I really REALLY…

What's the news for next year are all the riders staying put ? From a UK point of view we know that Brown has resigned for Gas Gas but as far as I know there have been no other announcements. I Guess the top 4 in the WTC signed a while ago but with new manufacturers starting up maybe there is about to be some activity on the transfer front ? Spill the beans someone

I've been using 4" bar risers with my sherco and I like them a lot. I'm 6'4" tall and they really make the bike fit me better. I don't really want a clunky pair of risers on my sexy new Ossa. Does anyone make a handlebar with that much rise over standard? I've done some snooping but have come up short, anyone have a recommendation?

I've desided it would be a good idea to write a letter to The Sun newpaper, read by the public and if interesting enough we can get it printed...all over the UK. A good way to persuade people? However we cannot just write in complaining about the usual stuff like the amount of riders slimming and things like that, we need to state that the BBC are tight fisted people and refuse to take any notice on what is such an interesting and skillful sport. Although if we are going to do this I need some ideas from you guys, list below for me some things you can write about, and is it worth doing this letter? Many Thanks, HRC

Trials bikes have been sighted in the strangest of places, Mount Kilimanjaro springs to mind which brings me to the wonder the "Strangest place you have rode!!" Personally my claim to fame was riding a TY along the casing (deck) of a nuclear submarine whilst serving in the Royal Navy, I would like to do it again on a Beta Rev3 but I know the Stator wouldn't survive the radiation......

Here's a multi route trial question to ponder, I was given a five recently for knocking out a marker. No problem with that, I smiled and accepted it graciously, we've all done it, that's trials. Had I been the observer I would definately done the same! However, thinking about it on the way home, I wonder 'if' it was the right descision? I was riding the yellow (middle) route and the white (easy) route came in from the side. The white and yellow markers were stuck in the ground touching each other with the white one on the 'outside' of the course. It was approaching a step and needed a dab which took out the white marker leaving the yellow untouched. Would you, like …
