ACU Discussion

Hi, I have noticed that some Trials & Enduro clubs operate as a Limited liability company, is there a good reason for this & what are the pro`s & con`s for doing this ? . My local ACU motor cycle club runs both trials & enduro`s but are not a limited club, can anyone shed any light on this. Many thanks

When I started out all ACU licenses were done on the same form and up until quite recently this was still the case. Now the trials registration has been separated completely from the rest of the form. So my question is do I need both? When it was all on the one form you applied and paid for the highest level/most expensive license and that granted you any open licenses of a lower level. I have a road race national/international B that allowed me to get a motorcross novice, grass track etc and a trials license. Does the old system still apply? Would my road race license cover me for trials or do I have to buy a trials registration separately? If I have to do them separ…

Hello all Just a thought about marking out really with the traditional Red on you right blue on your left and green and yellow flags. I’ve always found this odd when FIM sections are so much easier to read being one colour for your route arrowed to go between them and even have a no entry ⛔️ on the back. I ride clubman and 50/50 so have to change between red/blue green/yellow if required mid route which makes it even more difficult to get it right. TSR8 stipulates that prior to the start of each trial all machines will be examined to ensure that they comply with ACU regulations. In NSR appendix B states; 11 Brakes. Just thought I'd bring this up here as I have never seen this happen before. The Second round of the A & B Nationals was held at Bracken Rocks under the Mansfield Maun club a couple of weeks ago. It seems that EMRA are intending to use Bracken for the fourth round in May. I haven't seen this before and wondered why it was happening??

You are Clerk of Course and is running a combined youth and adult trial. There are 12 sections to be ridden 4 times. The youth and adults all start at section 1. After approx. 90mins the secretary of the trial is approached by a rider under 16 in tears in fact he is terrified. Given the New weight limit in the WTC and the 290cc limit on 2 strokes presumably to make Honda's, (I am not going to refer to them as Montesa's any more), more competitive what is the situation in the UK? Like many My Son has bought a 300CC bike with the idea of entering a few Nationals. Is it now Persona non grata or do we assume that any bike sold in the UK is OK for the BTC?

I applied for a competition licence to compete in Baja events in the UAE, as I have an ACU Trials Competition Licence the ATCUAE required a rider release letter from the ACU. I e-mailed the licence department in Rugby and got the necessary letter within hours. People are always quick to have a go at the ACU so its only fair that they deserve credit for giving such a good service to a member. On another note the cost of a ACU trials licence is a great dealer cheaper than a ATCUAE one. So well done the ACU.

I have just received an e mail from the local ACU East Midlands Secretary and i just had to respond. I have included my reply but i would be very interrested in others reactions? Well the Bill got through it's first stage yesterday and is now to go to committee. It's on it's way. So John what EXACTLY is the ACU doing / going to be doing to represent the interests of it's license holders? This bill will have an effect on just about every branch of two wheel sport of which the ACU is supposed to be the governing body. strangely enough this also includes mini moto competitions. Hello All in UK Don't really know where to post but assumed that some gasgas rider would know. Last rode trials in 2002.. instantly stopped due to injury.. about to start again. What's the current postion regarding trials licence. As just giving it a try for a couple of trials to see if injury now OK. Can you get day membership of ACU for riding a single trial. Don't mind paying club membership fee but not too keen on paying for a licence I may only use once or twice. Thanks

My sons birthday is 24/04/96 , to save you doing the math he will be 16 in April. Would he be able to ride as an adult when he turns 16 and would he just get his license changed from Youth A to an Adult? Or are you a youth till the year ends of the year you turn 17.

I recently rode a 'Stopping Allowed' trial, and was a bit peeved by having to wait whilst the previous riders juggled their bikes back and fro in the section. Each of these riders had to my idea of the rules gone backwards several times, but were conning the observer into thinking they were still moving. If the Observer had a Whistle, then the rider would know when to give up and leave the section. There were so many riders still attempting the section, after what I saw as their back wheel having gone backwards. Clubs should issue Whistles to all Observers at Stopping Allowed trials, so that there is no fudging of the rules.

Could someone please give me an explanation on 'what marks the competitor would loose' in the following situation: The trial was being run under TSR22a method of marking rules. A competitor entered the section and halfway through slipped into a deep rut with his front wheel. He landed with the majority of his right leg on the ground. His legs were still astride the machine. The handlebar touched the ground. He was able to push himself up without taking his hands of the handlebars and continued to ride the section to the end cards. As an observer what mark would you have given him and give an explanation why/how you came to the decision.

The ACU are looking into making licence (registration) applications easier and putting them online. The one real stumbling block is how club membership secretaries sign the form prior to submitting it to the ACU. Possibly one for JC? I got Shirty's little Gas Gas report on the 2nd round of the Youth A&B. Okay I've been mega busy work-wise, but I never even realised Round 1 had taken place, let alone Round 2. I've always struggled getting results from Youth rounds and if these lads are the future of Trials in the UK then we need to be doing what we can to promote them in my opinion. Dave W does a great job with the Brit Championship - is there a Youth Championship equivalent I should be speaking to? i.e. someone who collates the results and sends them out?

Here's a topic for constructive discussion. Certain interested parties are asking ACU Centres for their opinion on the current age and machine regulations for youth riders. In our club we have very few under 16's, despite positively promoting the youth side of trials with championships, trophies, conducted routes and even a youth trial, we are struggling to attract the younger riders. Personally I don't think a change in the age groups or machine capacities would make any difference to entries. eg 6 year olds on 80's, 13 year olds on 250's etc etc What do you think, could a change make a difference to youth entries?
