SWM

I have just replaced the clutch plates in my 1982 SWM 320 with some new surflex plates. I am using 6 friction plates and 7 metal plates and have put all six medium springs back in the clutch basket. I am using ATF in the gearbox. However I need some help, the clutch is slipping like mad, even in 2nd gear and I can't figure out why. I must admit I was confused as to how many plates I should use as I have numerous clutch diagrams showing anywhere between 5 and 7 friction plates. Engaging the gears is really smooth with the new plates installed so what have I done wrong? Any help is appreciated. Cheers Chris

whilst competing sunday, on 2 separate occasions i had a nasty sounding noise from the gearbox.i sounds like a gear is trying to mesh with the one that is already in use. gear selection is fine. chain and sprockets are fine,ie not loose. was not kickstart being held back onto ratchet. obviously got to be opened up, am just after any clues once inside. thanks.

guys any ideas on piston suppliers for rotax trials engines, do wiseco do any thing suitable ? going to make a big effort to get bike sorted next year , just stuck at the moment on finding rotax parts since peter knight retired.

Where to get these bushings? Are those made of rubber? Mine are hard as a rock.

Before I get the hacksaw out does anyone have a diagram showing the location of the baffle plates on a 320 ? Have pushed a long screw driver through from where the silencer joins the middle box but cant find anything. The box has been previously welded and im wondering if one or both of the plates has been removed. The baffle tube is still present at the entry point. There is somthing in there rattling as you can hear it when the engine is running but shaking the box it doesn't rattle ?

Jon Bliss has just built this SWM for me with a 140cc Pit Bike Engine, pictured in tatty first build, I know its looks wrong, but you want to ride it ?? Weighs in the same as a 2014 Sherco 125. I will post more pics over the next few weeks of the final build. Pete.

I have read through quite a few topics involving my queries, but I have a couple more queries. I have a Gori 200, 1982, I think is the same of the 1978 red / white model ? I have used the bike sparingly over the last 3 year, it's a great bike, but is let down by the clutch action / performance. When using the clutch adjuster via the hole in the clutch case, I cannot prevent either the clutch dragging, or slipping ( in higher gears), is this a common glitch or is it likely the plates are knackered. I was intending on extending the arm, is there a max amount I can get away with, should the extension, be straight? As the clutch is very heavy, what springs do you recomme…

Hi folks Rode my newly acquired 280 yesterday. I think its an 80 or 81 model. Black frame with sumpguard and Marzocchi forks. Can you answer some questions How much oil and what grade for the forks ? Pre mix 50:1 ? What oil for gearbox ? Bike has dellorto carb which I am about to clean , any ideas on std jet sizes and needle for uk ? Cheers

Thought I was paying too much as Ebay ad said it didn't run,but by the time I did the "Buy It Now" he'd got it going.Engine sounds terrific! Runs beauty! So Smooth,quietest running 2stroke I've ever heard :-) Gonna need alot of tweaking to get it as effective as My Fantic 240,but progress is already being made,have clutch down to easy two finger/OKay but distracting 1 finger action,will try taking out a couple of clutch springs next.Brakes are strong,rims round,tires hard as stone ;-) no oil in forks,rear shocks leaking from not being ridden. Footpegs are miserable,will cut those pristine mounts and never tweaked(Or even come in contact with anything other than a bootsol…

Anybody got a inlet to carb rubber ? I've tried Martin and Jumbostu. Thanks Ross Must be the SWM straight one, not the cranked Aprilia etc.

Hey Guys any tips what to do with a sticky clutch. It sticks a while from cold but thats not the problem as others do this as well. The problem is that when warmed up after pulling the clutch in it takes about 5 seconds before it disengages. This is also when starting off you have to wait about 5 seconds before engaging 1st. gear. For practice riding its okay but if it was to be used in a trial this would be difficult.

I just purchased a SWM 350 Jumbo, The bike is pretty complete and seems original. a couple ?s. The fuel line is way to close to the exhaust. What mod is done to prevent the fuel line from the heat. Thought I read about re-packing the midpipe. How is this done? Need a taillight and tank decals and side panel decals. I checked on SWM site in England but doesn't look like they have the parts. Any other tips and mods for this model. Looks like I have bike number 201. When purchasing the bike I was told less than 20 were imported into USA. What is ballpark value for the bike?

It was a barn find and I'm doing restoration now. It's been painted many times. Should be red and white? Any idea for color codes?

Just finished the istall on third SWM of OKO carb.The bikes were 2 1982 280s and a 1983 240. the 240 had a stock airbox and pipe and the inprovement was huge.bike pulls from idle to full revs with no flat spots.The 280s run tons better with no problems, one stock the other has a modified rear box.Also noticed after first trial the bike used less gas than before.I also am using 2 different size OKOs on one of my xc bikes.It has a 280 rotax motor and for the tight tracks i run a 30 mm carb and its a tractor .On more open tracks I install a 32 mm and it runs down 450 4 strokes.Have to thank Roger at MAVT.org for the carbs and tuning help.

hi guys, My understanding is that a swm 125 bottom end is identical to a 240/280. have i got that right? We have come across a 125 engine that would be a cheaper option than repairing the gear shaft on our 280 in the short term and eligible for my daughter to ride junior. A couple of questions. does the 280 exhaust fit the 125? Does the 280 top end fit straight on the 125 or do we need to machine the cases? What gearing is used on the 125? Any help appreciated. Hi all I am thinking of moving my condensor to up by the coil under the tank, and while I am at it put a second one there. Can anyone suggest a type of condensor they have used which has worked OK and where to get it? Looking around there are lots of different types from various bikes. I was thinking one with a bracket to make it easy to mount, is there a specific specification I should look for? Mr. Nolan has lent me one with .59 Italy 10F stamped on it Mick

What's considered to be a good compromise angle for steering angle ? Currently about 23 degrees. Thanks

Its alot easier to change the timing by opening/closing the points, rather than taking the flywheel off and moving the back plate. But, is there any reason not to do it this way ? Thanks
