I have just had the axle dismounted - damn, it was a bit of a job getting in again. had to loosen the whole engine! Now it is cleaned from grease, and re-greased. The holes for the grease pump is cleaned. How much do I tighten the axle? If i tighten too much it get stuck. I have tightened it so that it can move just freely. So my questions are: 1) How much shall it be tightened? Is there an exact torque value or is it just by feeling? 2) Is there a drawing, picture or a spares fice somewhere on WWW so I can see how the swinger bearings are build up?

I have acquired a TL320 this summer. I know these things are quite noisy - and nearly bullet proof. Inspections of clutch (to try solving the clutch'problem') and inspections of barrel and head, indicates that the engine is very fine. Anyway - it has a lot of mechanical noises and there seems to be some play either at the top-end or the big-end of the rod. I haven't measured it and it is just recognisable. (A lot of the noise is transferred by the fins on the head I have noticed) Do anyone know where to find the specifications of service limits, wear outs etc. for the Rotax engine?

I am getting close finishing the rebuild of my TL320 and have just found out that the coil is no good. After a quick look through the net the only prices that I could find were way too expensive, does anyone know if coils from any other bikes will do the same job. TY coils are less than

I understand that on the later Jumbo's the steering head was steeper. Can anyone tell me how much steeper this was than the earlier frames and also how close was this to the current modern bikes? Thanks

Was wondering about any variations in SWM TL320s regarding the fitment of decompression devices. My Australian 1982 model has one fitted and another I'm buying does not. In the 1982 Australasian Dirt Bike magazine it has one fitted. And the 1980 or 81 model article in Trail and Track [now defunct] has it fitted as well. Also anybody got some ideas on where to source pistons and ring kits for the 280 cc?

Can anyone help me with the dimensions and shape of the pivot bracket for the propstand off a 320TL. I am about to strip the paint from the frame and swinging arm and I thought that I could replace the bracket that was missing when I purchased the bike. Judging by the weld that's left it looks like it was 35mm long and 5 or 6 mm wide where it fits onto the swinging arm. I haven't been able to take a photo of it but will add one if I get the chance. Thanks

I competed in my first trial last weekend on the TL320. I managed to make a grand mess of the event, and found that I killed the engine in nearly every section. Never had that problem in all my practice on level ground, but there was little level ground at the trial! A couple of the old timers suggested that I lower the gearing on the bike. Several people independently commented that the bike seemed to be geared rather high. Since my existing rear sprocket is looking well-worn, I suppose this is a good time to consider a gearing change. So what gear combinations work for those of you competing on TL320s?

Trying to get my bike working again. (Stolen / recovered) An air cooled Aprilia with Rotax engine. The flywheel has been spinning on the shaft after the woodruff key sherred. I think the crankshaft is ok, but the taper on the flywheel has suffered, question is does the keyway start from nothing, or has it been worn away by the crankshaft ? Anybody out there want to sell a flywheel, if required ? The wiring has all been pulled out but shouldnt be to difficult to reinstate. I've got the engine out, head off, but the barrel wont move. Of the 8 studs that secure the head 4 go through to the crankcase ? I've put release oil down and will leave it overnight. Is it best to …

Hi all. In the process of "trying" to remove the barrel for a re-bore. The four long studs that go right through to the crank case are solid. Haven't been touched for decades. I have been regularly spraying them with wd40 & duck oil but so far no movement. A friend has suggested a hot air gun, which I haven't bought yet, is this the best way ? Any other suggestions ? Thanks Ross

I am in the process of rebuilding the engine on my 1982 320TL. Everything was going fine until I came to setting the ignition timing. I know that it should be between 2.6 and 2.8 BTDC but I can't rotate the stator plate enough to achieve this. Can someone help by taking me through the process for setting the ignition timing as I am probably making an elementary mistake! Cheers Chris

Right folks I have been considering a twin shock for some time and I'm thinking of getting one for the summer months to see if I enjoy it more than the Gas Gas I currently have. A combination of getting Bernies book off santa many years ago and SWMs being in short supply when my dad was a dealer for them meant that although I always wanted one I never actually owned an SWM. So if I go the twinshock route the SWM seems a likely candidate I have been offered a frame yokes and a seat /tank unit from a 280 but whats the chances of locating a motor ? will early air cooled aprillia rotax motor fit or the armstrong rotax ? I assume the Gori one will ??

I have just bought a TL320 '82 with Rotax engine. From a copy of a US maintenance manual I understand that there should be a kind of external stop for the kick starter to avoid damage to the left side engine (clutch-) cover. I can't see any such mechanism on my SWM. Could anyone please describe it for me - if possible with a picture too?
