OSET Electric Trials Bikes

  1. Started by sgo70,

Hi there, I just got to take my 5 year old son out for the first time this year on his 2018 Osett 12.5 and the batteries are pretty weak, only lasted about an hour. I would love to do the LIPO conversion but he wants to go again this weekend so I'm looking for something I could buy off the shelf locally. The shop here wants $135/battery but I can't even get through on the phone to see if they have them in stock. I was wondering if something like these would be okay: https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/12-volt-10ah-sla-battery-0102049p.html Or even better if I could just suck it up and buy these and plug them in: https://www.cabelas.ca/product/130…

That is the question, I can not decide so please help if you had similar problem when choosing the first bike for your child. He is on his second push bike already on "16 wheels. Prefers to rides bigger now. He will hold the weight of oset16 when stationary at the shop, but not sure he will manage in slow turns or over obstacles. 12.5 seems too small but sales person at the shop advice is to get 12 for him for one year. Unfortunatelly can not find anywhere he could try both near London. He was on Kuberg trailE at bike show but that was too tall.

Had a near miss at the weekend with my 4 year old on his 12.5. He was riding down a short steep hill when the throttle has gone forward past the off stop position. The throttle then operated as full throttle and the bike took off crashing with him into a wall. Thankfully my son was fine. The oset has twisted bent forks and buckled wheel. I emailed oset uk with the details however to date no response. I would expect the default position with any failure should be to zero rather than maximum. At least with a petrol bike you have a kill switch.

Hi, Need some help with my son's 12.5r, the bike will run perfectly for about 30mins after that the power will keep cutting in and out, have recently done a lipo conversion and there is still plenty of juice left in the batteries when the cutting starts, any ideas? Thank you.

Hi All I have a new 16 36V Oset and im not sure about the batteries... On full charge they last for about 40 minutes to an hour then the light drops from 3 to 2 and the power reduces considerably. My son rode it yesterday at trials practise and thats when we noticed the power drop after 40 minutes although he was riding in the wet mud. The same happened today but he was running mainly on tarmac hence the 60 minutes before drop out. I charged it up fully overnight last night and it seems to have lasted a bit longer, we will have another go tomorrow. Is the sudden drop in power normal...? Nick

Hi guys, Just picked up a 2010 Oset 16 36V and noticed an intermittent problem. When the motor is running full open throttle or if the bike is slowing down there is a rubbing noise coming from the motor. It doesn't seem to happen when getting up to speed. First I thought it was from the chain against the plastic casing but in fact its coming from the motor. The sound isn't loud, and initial instinct was a wheel bearing, but is definiately coming from the motor. There doesn't seem to be any play in the bearings as rotation and chain tension seem fine. Has anyone else had a similar problem or any advise before stripping the motor? Also are these motors easy to split…

So I put a new bearing in my oset 16 36v motor 2012 and now it runs in reverse. What might I of done wrong?? I had both sides of the motor off, it was tricky putting the 4 springy things back on (technical term there), I think they all went on properly and as far as I was concerned I didn't touch or change any wires??.......HELP

Hi all, I just picked up a used 2015 20.0 for my son to ride while we wait for the 20" TRS to show up stateside (indefinite covid delays). I'm planning to do a custom lithium ion pack for it as we did for his smaller, Oset. Thinking ahead, it's likely that we'll sell this 20.0 once the TRS shows up, and there's a good chance I will snag a 24" for myself to putter around the yard. So given this, it'd be awesome if I could build his 20.0 pack such that it would also work in a 24R in the future. Trouble is, I've never seen a 24R up close and do not know what the battery space is shaped like. If anyone could post pictures and measurements of a 24R battery pack that would…

As title reads are there any differances between the 2010 and 2011 oset 12.5 model and if so what are they?? Cheers

  12. Hi All, My little one has a 2012 24v 16.0 with 14ah batteries. Its in need of some new batteries, so would 15ah batteries be ok to use and would there be any benefits? http://www.ebay.co.u...=item3f25a43868 Cheers, Wayne.

  13. Hi. My 5 y/o son has an Oset 16.0 racing and loves spending every spare minute on it. The "throttle" has always troubled me though, and having had no previous experience with e-bikes of any description and no ability to benchmark against other bikes, I need the help of forum members to ascertain whether the characteristics of his bike are normal or not.. From a stand-still all the way to full power the "throttle" behaves as expected and can be modulated well with a corresponding increase in speed at the rear wheel, HOWEVER when winding off the "throttle" from any position the speed/power cannot be modulated other than to eventually fully stop the transmission of power …

  15. I recently purchased from Facebook marketplace a 2010 OSET 16 24v. I think? The controller has a born on date of 2010. I bought a 48-72v step down to 24v 40a converter. I use a ego 56v batteries which can put out 50amps. It works fantastic, with a little better performance then stock due to lithium battery. My question is, is there anyone with experience putting more volts to the controller then 24v? Looking to get a little more out of it's performance. Thank you again for all the support. I didn't even think I would get an answer. I got a discussion! Gonna stick with what it is setup as now. Hope he hits a growth spurt soon.

  16. I have just picked up a used Oset and notice the motor says 900w which appears is the same as the 20 lite. Are these out of the factory like this or could it be a upgrade? Oset spec suggests 800w is normal. Cheers

  17. Seems my lad was able to dislodge a motor magnet today. The motor is a 36V 900W version. Anyone seen anything like this before? Unfortunately he didn't mention the power change he felt until later and there wasn't any noise so we kept riding for about 10 minutes more. As the pic shows the motor became extremely hot. And amazingly, it still runs. I haven't disassembled the brush side yet. I am curious what the consensus is here. Can it be rebuilt (should it be?) or just replace it. At this moment it seems like a replace to me (I know nothing about electric motors) but I was curious if anyone has been here before. Looks pretty nasty to me. Thanks all for the …

Bit of background first my son is 8 and has been riding autos since he was about 3. A few months back we got a 2018 oset 20r which has a boost bikes Lipo battery. Trouble is we are finding it REALLY hard to get to grips with the bike, I've ridden it myself and can see where he's coming from. I know it's not a petrol bike so it will be different but I will try to explain the problem... Its all to do with the throttle control and how the power surges very quickly with no build up whatsoever. There is also a good 1 second gap between hitting the throttle and movement at the rear wheel... This is the biggest problem. It makes any kind of slow, technical riding rea…

  19. Hi All, New here so first of all Hi! I'm into DH and Enduro MTB so know very little about trials so please be gentle. I've just picked up well used MY15 20R which needs a bit of TLC but at least most of the bits are cycle parts so easy to work on. On my list of things to do is bearings, replacing with some good quality SKF or Enduro. After much googling and an e-mail to Oset who haven't replied yet, I've drawn a blank as to sizes - found some info but it's conflicting. I'd rather know sizes before I start replacing to minimise new toy out of service so if anyone can remember what sizes the various bearings are: wheel, swing arm, motor, etc. that wo…
