Thanks to Jimmyl for offering Richard Allen as having a set of forks for the Montesa 315r. I contacted Richard on September 4th and he does or did have a set of forks and gave me a price. He also gave me a price for postage and provided a bank account number to send payment. I required an invoice showing all charges, I know what the item and postage is but dont know if any taxes or other possible fees. I agreed to a wire transfer and would do so on receiving an invoice, researching the wire transfer $40 US and currency exchange fees I found that my costco anywhere credit card would not cost me anything. Richard never responded to weather he could accept credit cards o…

Hi, i've just stripped down a 315 to change the crank seals and they were fitted in different directions? The left hand side (stator) was fitted facing outward ie the numbers on the outside, the other was fitted facing inside (numbers towards the piston).. I've checked the book and according to the pics the clutch side was correct?, I just cant work out by the diagrams how the other side should go? Any ideas? Regards Finn

Recently bought a '03 315R. Riding in warm weather on w/e and at end of the day it was detonating. mostly at very low rev / idling. Fuel was 98 Octane + Elf 976 @ 80:1 Most of the day it seemed fine. So I'm thinking - maybe it could need the coolant replaced? - maybe thermostat wasn't working correctly? - maybe Fan? - maybe lift needle a notch? So I'll check all of above, but firstly I was going to check ignition timing ummm per the manual, doesn't look like that has any adjustment, the stator just seems to screw into the cover. So, is there any timing adjustment? Anyone else solved a detonation problem (not pinging) TIA for any info.

I have some old small mountain bike lights that used to run off a battery in a water bottle. I was wondering if they could be run off the electricle system as most bikes come with a light from factory. the lights are 15 and 20 watts each, I think they used to run off 7.2 volts but really not sure on that one. would these lights be hard on my magneto? thanks for the help. I want to start night ridding soon and need some good light.

Hi all, With the advent of the new year, I've decided to treat my bike to an engine rebuild. I've done other bikes before, but never a 315... Is there anything I should watch out for, or is it fairly straightforward? The engine sounds noisy, not rattly as such, but just like it's not running smoothly. Any idea on whether top/bottom end is most likely to have gone? Are the Montesas particularly susceptible to either? It's certainly noticeably more noisy than other Montesas I've listened to. Also, whilst I've got it in bits, is there anything I can do to the internals to improve power?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Ben

I am contemplating performing a complete strip and rebuild of my 2002 315R engine to fix the failed crank seals. While it is open I will look to replace all the various bearings and piston rings etc. It's been a long time since I worked deeply on any engine so I wanted to seek advice on this particular unit. I have normal tools but none of the specialist stuff yet that I'll probably need (like a crankcase puller, etc.). How straightforward is it to work on the HRC engine and are there any particular pitfalls I should watch out for? Thanks in advance

Hello fellow owners, I just picked up a 2001 315R and have been making some repairs. Can anyone help with a part # or size of viton o-ring to use on the connection from the head pipe to the aluminum midpipe? Also the smaller diameter to the muffler. Thank You,

I'm considering a weight reduction program on my 315r. It would be super to see photos of the things that were done. I did get a chance to look close at Dougies bike at Duluth but like a dummy didn't take any pictures. Martin... if your out there - is there anything you can share now, like the actual final weight and some comments perhaps? I also remember some talk/speculation about the frame being fabricated of thinner stock and 5th gear removed. Come on Martin - time to spill your guts!! Some items I remember: 1) Ti (probably) rear shock body 2) Rear wheel lightened between spokes 3) Misc brackets machined 4) Triple clamps - probably Ti 5) Ti hardware/axles perha…

I recently bought a reasonable condition '02 315R to ease me back into trials after a very long time away. The bike generally runs OK, however, several times now it has faded away quite rapidly at higher revs. It's most noticeable while roading it in fifth. It rides OK for about half a mile and then the power just falls away and it cuts out - as though you'd run out of fuel. It will then start immediately and will run a little rougher than usual and either do the same thing or get over it. Any hints on what I should look for? Many thanks

Hi all My forks seem to have developed a lot of 'stiction'. When the forks start to compress from full extension, it seems to catch a little bit. I've changed the fork oil and seals, and it's had no effect. Has anyone else ever had this problem? I thought it might be the Headstock bearings, but there doesn't seem to be any play in them, and wanted to ask on here before I go ahead and replace them anyway! Thanks in advance, Ben

Just got an '04 315r and I am trying to change the fork seals, since the left leg is weeping. I have the left fork mostly apart, the inner tube assembly is out, but I am not sure if the slider and fork tube should be pulled hard to seperate or there is another step or special tool needed. Also if anyone can let me know what wt. fork oil is used and the volume for each leg, I would be most thankful.

Hi All...I wondered if someone could provide some advice please. The right fork seal on my 98 315r is leaking again after it was replaced only about a year ago. Since then it has only done about 15 trials... There are no scratches or dinks on the slider.... Are these forks easy to dismantle and check. The last time it was replaced it was done by my local Trials shop so I don't think it has been botched... Any thoughts ideas would be much appreciated.
