  1. The metal part of the coil should be earthed to frame, if its all standard there should be a bracket that the coil fits to with condenser attached and that bolts to frame just above the cylinder head. This also acts as a heat sink for the coil. I think the kill switch or ignition or both as I still have, just runs the points wire to ground. If you start it without a kill switch just make sure you can get to a connection quickly in case something goes wrong. TLTEL
  2. Or an expanding rawl bolt (concrete / masonry ) fixing to to lock inside bearing and pull it out or tap through from other side. TLTEL
  3. I cant see the point in another brand, there not that many buyers of new trials bikes out there, they will soon be able to have a brand each! I have had Vertigo though and it is very unpleasant!! TLTEL

Hi Mat, yes that looks exactly right. TLTEL
  5. Its a Sherco, yhey sound like that!! TLTEL
  6. Laird 387 Thanks for that in depth reply. The James I mentioned wasn't an off road model and really wasn't that good, it was the one with a pressed steel rear frame, the same as a Francis Barnett model that I saw for sale recently, It had a swinging arm with small springs but no damping, I managed to squeeze an old motocross tyre on but had to cut some of the side knobbles off so they cleared the chain. So it would have been a Villiers then not AMC. Sorry for the hijack, back to the DOTs TLTEL

Hi I have Chinese copy carbs on both of my Hondas and they work fine had them probably 4 or 5 years now, I just got them from flee bay. they came jetted and I just fitted them. TLTEL
  8. Hi, Although I asked the question I am not sure what is the right answer. I would assume the fan sucks air through the rad, I will have to check mine when I get it out next. TLTEL

    No Spark

Dan.. I had a bike many years ago that had an intermittent head light and instrument lights. The earth was mounted to the fork yolk so the circuit was relying on contact through the steering bearing, I only found what the problem was when it would only work if you turned the bars left or right but not straight ahead. 10. looks like fun, so it must be illegal. unless the rules are different.in Ireland TLTEL

  12. Nice Picture, my dad had a dot back in the early 60's and he always said it was his favourite bike ever and he had quite a few. I don't think there were any pictures taken of it. So, a question. When all the company's that used Villiers engines, like, Dot, Greeves, Cotton, James, sprite and many more that I can't think o fat the moment were building bikes, was there much difference in the engines supplied by Villiers or was it just the frames that made the bikes what they were. What was AMC? My first bike (I was 9) was a James 150 (commodore or captain I think) it was chopped to make a field bike back in the days when the local Farmer was happy for you to ride in the fields as soon as the corn was cut. Anyway my Dad always said it was an AMC engine but I am sure it said Villiers on it. TLTEL
  13. "Damp electrics" Sounds like you're trying to convince yourself there is nothing wrong with it, TLTEL
  14. Yep... that could do it. TLTEL
  15. 47, ? your just a baby. go for it. TLTEL
  16. Is The fan spinning the right direction? TLTEL
  17. Hi. they do look good and a good price too. I have heard some bad things about Raceline levers but MOTOMERLIN don't appear to sell those, that could be why. I have bought loads of stuff over the years from this guy and never had a problem and always a great service, He is a Trials rider too so I would go for it. TLTEL This is just my opinion I have no connection to this company...
  18. sounds more like a problem at the lever end to me, bit of a coincidence that the pack finger height would need adjusting cos the bike has been dropped. I would (if you havnt already) remove the small rubber boot and make sure the plunger pin is not bent or not seating in the piston correctly, Also did pivot bolt get bent, is it binding on the nylon bushes in the lever, have you done it up toooo tight? Good luck. TLTEL The finger height adjustment has been covered quite few times before, but it does sound unlikely that it is that to me, although never had a PRO myself.

    TL250 Honda rehab

Must have been a hard decision to sell it, but sometimes you need to stand back and ask yourself, do I want to spend Sundays in the garage playing or get out and ride. if you can ride with your son it doubles your fun!! Modern machines are so easy to ride compared to the old stuff, I keep having ago on my TLR and I want to love it, but it can be such hard work on the sections we get down this way, I take my hat off to the guys that turn up and ride Twin shock and British bikes round the same sections as the modern bikes and beat them. 20. Hi expat when you fit the new master cylinder, make sure that you adjust the brake lever rod to have a little slack. If you don't have some slack it will not work and you will not be able to back bleed it. If you have a problem with bleeding there is loads of info on this site. Try to load every thing with fluid as you assemble it. Its messy but it will work. Good luck and hope you get your ride fixed.............. Happy Christmas every one................. Ben and Eddy.. Kiss and make up please..XX TLTEL
  21. Great pictures, keep em coming. TLTEL
  22. I don't think they are a pain to work on but there are a lot of people out there that never do any maintenance and just bodge stuff when it breaks or just keep riding them when things don't work properly. Then just sell them on and buy a newer one... TLTEL
  23. If you paid cash I don't think there is much you can do, but if you used Paypal you can reverse the payment as the bike was not as the description. TLTEL
  24. Sounds like the carb just needs tweaking, it wouldn't hurt to check plug first too. TLTEL
