  1. there's a beta 50 I think, on ebay now. didn't notice the country. k
  2. saw this on ebay. there was some discussion of it last year on the board. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...item=2464330308 k
  3. filters for the TY350 were extremly small, but almost non existant now. I use Kohler small engine filters, the smallest I have found. Some are filters, some just screens. Fuel taps have screen, but I like a filter before the carb. Fuel filter will plug up? At a trials school years ago, Ray Peters was discussing basic maintenance, including air filter. A strong opinion offered from a rider was to never put sticky oil on the foam filter, as that just caused it to plug up with s**t. Possibly the same logic applies to not using fuel filters? k
  4. maybe this is a dumb solution because I don't know the conditions over there for parking, insurance, storage, etc, but why not get a small enclosed trailer? I love it. All the tools and gear stays in side, out of the rain & snow. Can leave it safely locked up in hotels or at events, keep the bikes in there as storage at home, and pull it with your small car or 4x4 or whatever you have. I have a larger trailer because of kids needs. my 5x10 ft enclosed hauls 4 bikes intact, or 5 with some disassembly of front wheels. Pulls well with my minivan. Easy to drive with stock mirrors, easy to back up and turn. Trailers might not be an option for you, but I love it. k
  5. actually your idea is the main focus of what we are doing. Many videos are out there showing the 'gee whiz' stuff. We are focusing on Youth-Beginner, Nov, Inter, with just enough Adv and World for attention or comparison. We don't have much trailbike, no separate class, but I would like to show some. I have Youth on KX80 and XR70, one older gent on Honda SL100, but if anyone has digital footage of trail & enduro bikes, I'd like to have some. k
  6. AB: tks, Wayne, I emailed offline. tks. project is moving along and mushrooming: ended up buying some hardware & software. my 16 year old computer consultant (middle son) is deep in photography, so he is eating it all up. I am struggling but learning. I am not expecting cecille b demilles here, but I think it will be fun. k
  7. pilot jet is plugged up. When you add fueld from the enrichener (choke) circuit it runs, since you just got them, assume they are an unknown situation. take it apart for a good cleaning. write down all the jet numbers, replace the o-ring on the bottom. BTW, carb and parts about impossible to find. I was told that a 70's DT100 carb will fit. I have bought several on ebay cheap. 'The bodies appear identical. the jetting is way off. Floats, needles and seats appear the same. My intent is to move the jetting from old Ty carb to the Dt carb as necessary. k
  8. make sure the master cylinder piston goes back far enough to uncover the return port. that is the most common cause. k
  9. I forgot: Any ideas as material, outline, things to address that would fit needs you see, please let me know. Thisis wholen ew world for me and am looking for input. kcj
  10. AB: I'd love it. I sent my address offline. Jeff: exactly. (don't we all ride like that? It looks so simple on screen) As I had in my original post, the comments I heard over & over fell into two categories: do they do that around here, and I'd like to but I could never do that. All the pro videos are world round pics or extreme riding. We are trying to show the pits, parking lot, old cars with small trailers, youth riding TY80 and XR70 as well as modern, Novice on old & new stuff, and some more advanced riders. The whole point is to get people hooked by seeing what they would start off doing themselves or their kid riding. It might not be very polished because of a time and money crunch. May redo it by taping alot more next season. However, anything I end up with will be avaialble for anyone else to use at cost of duplication. kcj
  11. I have some tapered plastic wedges that I think were for putting under furniture or something. They slide right down in there, then I twist both directions and it pushes one side of the piston then the other back inward. Sometimes I push on the pad and caliper casting, depending on construction. Charlies good point. pushing crud back into the seals can stick the piston in place so it can't float freely.
  12. out of town for a bit for work in Montana. -20F was not condusive to thinking about trials. Andy: tks. Probably self evident to everyone but me, but I was thinking video tape, oblivious to the march of technology. (but I am still riding a Yamaha. . . .) I have a friend who does my computer help and works with digital video and can do some editing. We will try to use mostly the local video, but some stills also. Is anything on the site fair game to use? Also, I'd like to ref the TC website for further info. SETRA: awesome pic on the big ledge that I'd like to use. Haven't had enough time to review all the club pics. Are all of your pics OK to use? Dave W: sounds like yours will be just what I need, I wish it was done. I can only view a few seconds of your sample. Anyone else: I would like to include some video or stills of old (50's, 60's) bikes and world level stuff (deep mud banks, logs, etc). Any ideas of sources? tks all, kcj
  13. I miss chris uk. those interchanges involved machining and unobtainium metals and leaded fuel. k
  14. I am seeing a lot of China bearings at our local industrial supply house. Best check the quality, and the tolerance fits. While I hate to spend too much for parts, I am also aware of the value of supporting the local dealer.

    Wanted...

ebay Yamaha TY 350 N Owner Service Manual Item number: 2456830953 I also have original manual if you just need certain pages copied. I don't have a scanner though. k
  16. Trying to put together some trials promo material (after talking about it for two seasons). Intent: exposure at a motorcycle show where Tommy A has done his demos. I want to address two common crowd comments: 1. That's neat but I could never do that. Focus will be on youth, beginner, and club level stuff to show what the sport is for the average human. 2. Thats neat, do they do that around here? Promo for the local club, schedules, contacts, etc. My intent is a short 10-20minute endless loop video, a couple permanent poster boards, and some single page handout/takeaway material. I took simple home video of Youth-beginner Nov club events. That can be edited by people skilled in that task. I am looking for digital still pics of similar: old vintage stuff from 50's, 60's 70's and modern. Youth, novice, advance, champ etc. Needs to be stuff that is not copyrighted (read 'free'). Also looking for ideas and what others have done. I have copy of Ringo's bulletin and that is very much along the lines of what I was thinking. I am looking for help, input and expertise to make this work. Ideas, things to avoid, etc. If it does fly, it will be available to anyone else who wants to promote the sport.l No official capacity or commercial endeavor, I just want to give back to the sport. kcj
  17. I'd like to keep up on what you try and like. I have a couple 175 that need the same mods on pegs. Old ones are trashed anyway. I was going to try the B&J kit, but maybe just slapping on a plate and trying several different locations is the first place to start. Also have 350 to move the pegs. THose are way too high.
  18. just getting out and riding is what its all about for me. never will be much good, but having a blast. k
  19. I was out on the lake ice last weekend twice. Mostly bare ice, some snow spots. Non studded tires grip surprisingly well if below 25F, almost not at all above 25F. Just doing tight turns and 8's is super practice for me with clutch brake & throttle control. Other more adventuresome friends do the studded ice racing. Serious hp and speeds there. k
  20. like to see your pics when its done. I have one TY street licensed, and if anyone in the states has one of these tanks it might be good to try for a bit more range. the larger twin shock 250 'street kit' tanks looked bulky I thought, but your mono with the big tank looks the same shape and lines, just scaled up a bit. k
  21. Denali 'Tork Attack'. I think they also had an 'enduro' sort of. dont' see the trials bike on the current website. happy searching. http://motorcyclecity.com/electric-hybrid/denali.htm k
  22. how much bigger (in capacity and i just plain bulk) were these? were they OEM options, like the Yam trail tank-seat-peg packages for the TS ones, are are they aftermarket tanks? just curious, have never see one in the states. k

    Tl125 Throttle

foloowing up on that: drill one side of the copper cap and put a long threaded screw through it for handle. Then hold that with a vise grips. Holding the cap directly with pliers sucks off too much heat. Yes, the propane torch melts the solder. The reason for solder dip is that the heat ismuch more carefully controlled, don't risk burning the cables. Once you have filled the cap with solder, do the job and leave the solder to cool in the copper cap. After that you very rarely have to add solder to cap. push the ferrule onto the cable then cut the cable. ohterwise the fraying will make it impossible to get it onto the core. Fan it and dip into some liquid acid flux. all the oil must be cleaned out. flux core solder isn't agressive enough. ;Get it all clean, then slide the ferrule out to the end of the core, dip in the molten solder a few seconds, just enough to see it wick up the core, but don't let it wick up very far. You don't want a long stiff unbending part of the core. stainless core is a bit toughter to work with, but seems to be the same process. get a bag of ferrules a nd practice a bit. easy to do. Buying a cable is easier, it's just that I work with a lot of old stuff that either is NLA, or is a mix match of domino throttle replacing the original throttles, etc. Once I get the lengths sorted out, I sketch it up, then make the spare cable right away. Oil it up and put in a ziplock back and you are set. good luck k
  24. I have a lift I made out of a nursing home patient lift. It has a frame & wheels, with a vertical tubing mast. On the back side there is a crank wheel that moved the arm up and down via a roller chain in a channel. Originally the arm had attachment for a sling to lift people out of bed and into wheel chairs, etc. It was also FREE as the nursing home was converting to electric lifts. Had I know how well it would work out I would have haulled away a dozen of the hoists. I cut off the arm, welded a plate onto that and built a structure that bolts to the plate. bike is supported at each wheel, with a lift out portion in between the wheels. One wheel is clamped with a vise made to fit on the hydraulic lift tables http://www.handyindustries.com/airlift.asp BTW, I have one of their tables and they are awesome product for the money. bit spendy for home workshop though. For working on suspension or wheels, I clamp one end of the bike in the vise, then use a small jack under the skid plate and hold the other end up in the air. I like to work standing up, the best for my old back. That puts the framework/bottom of the wheels about 40 inches off the floor. Having a place for shallow pans is helpful: One pan for clean tools, one for towels and rags and drippings, one for parts being taken off, etc. I use aluminum cake pans about 9 x 15 inches (rummage sales). I can email you some pics, don't know how to post here. k

    Tl125 Throttle

I think the dominos come with a setscrew type cable ferrule for the throttle end. You can play with various lengths with that, then just build your own core. Make a solder pot from a 3/4 copper pipe cap, and dip solder, don't use the torch on the cable. I use bicycle shifter cable because the core is lighter and more flexible, especially for TY80 and similar small carbs. But for the bigger ones too. If I recall, throttle is 1.5 mm diameter and bicycle shifter is 1.2 or 1.3 mm diamter. Seems to work fine in the normal housing. k
