Has anyone tried the Miller chrome front pipe on their 175. As I have fitted a WES rear, and my existing one hasn't got a lot of metal left after 31 years just curious as I was thinking of getting a Miller one. So rather than order one and get it shipped to New Zealand to find its not suitable! or has anyone got or made an alternative?
-
Subira
Tried it this morning (BST) and its working for me.
So you didn't have to reregister or anything?
-
Will try to get some pics.
cheers
John.
I await with anticipation, I suppose you could get some welded on in 6mm alloy?
Cheers Mike

125-175 bash plate
Has anyone got any information regarding the mods done to the 125-175 sump guard, would be good to see some pics if anyone has any. Obviously done to protect the engine!

Try this utility its free and it works for me if you don't like it you can always just delete it http://www.irfanview.com/

Thanks guys I bought 4 litres Mobil racing 4T fully synthetic 15w-50, I haven't tried in anger yet but as RS said change frequently to which I will anyway! Who knows perhaps it might help the clutch from being so fierce until I get my hydraulic one.
-
So which engine oil is everyone using in their SY125/175 as they recommend Motul 300v, so whats the difference between a synthetic that you can use in a car? Or do you need a dedicated one for a motor bike!
What about a workshop manuel does Crosswaites do one? would be handy as the one you get the bike with isn't much use.

Has anyone tried a Boysen Reed on a TY175 I beleive one from a YZ80 makes a big change to the power band?
-
There was one on ebay I think it fetched about 1700 Pounds about a month ago, and oh yeah if its anything like my SY175 exellent bike!
-
Does anyone know what size the thread is of the plug SY175, as the bike wouldn't start, 1st time this has happened decided to try the plug from my grandaughter' Z50 which is also the same size 16mm socket. The bike fired up OK then
But on reffiting the plug to Z50 nearly cross threaded, so need a tap to clean the thread I believe its a 1/2"x 26 threads per inch?
I will have to get a spare plug, do I have to stick to the CR7 HSA as we are just coming into winter here in NZ. I thought the plug on my TL125 was bad enough but the Yamaha one is smaller still
-
You should be able to get SAE 30 from your local lawnmower shop! to try.
-
the slow action throttle has transformed the bike, such a simple mod Domino just a straight swap! So you haven't tried the clutch plates from BJ Racing as he's in your kneck of the woods. So you don't mind spending out on another Magura hydraulic clutch when are they due, perhaps thats the ones we are supposed to be getting?
-
DG Yeah went out this afternoon got soaked right right through practicing, go out with my son whom we both bought the 175's at the same time and my grandson 6 years old QR50, grandaugther 10 with a Z50 (BLISS) Just getting going then the rain came down have done the main jet 17.5 I knocked out 2 baffles my son knocked them all out, mine is still a bit fluffy. So will have to knock the other 2 out, my son has gone for smaller sprocket on the front he likes it as he can use 1st & 2nd I will leave mine as I do most sections in 1st anyway. But the best mod so far is a slow action throttle much more control as the clutch is a bit fierce as was sent with cable clutch with the maguire hydraulic to follow when the have got it right.
-
DG that simple hey! thanks for that
Mike

I need the tool or tools to adjust the rear paoli shock on my SY175 what alternatives will fit, will I be able to get one from a wreckers, from an alternative bike?
-
Oh yeah what date is it today!!!???
-
I had an email reply today thanks guys
-
I have emailed BJ's to enquire about their clutch plates for a SY175, just wanted to know wether they do an exchange for them. Do they reply to email's. As I would like to order them it would be ideal if they did an exchange. So as the bike would not be out of action!
-
Having just got our SY175 yesterday my son & myself, only got in about 3 hours practice yesterday. 1st impressions the clutch came as a cable with the intention of the hydraulic one coming later as they have problems well the cltutch was all or nothing, seems as though it would it would be OK as the standard 125 clutch, but can't cope with the more power. And the carburation was a bit fluffy as if it was going to die when you let the power off.
1. Do you have to change the jet for a 17.5?
2. Change the clutch plates?
Clutch Plate Machining
Machining stock clutch plates: $45
Performance clutch lever assembly: $28.95
3. Change the baffle in the exhaust?
B&J Silencer Mod
Silencer rebuild with custom perforated core:
B&J perforated core only: $24.95
I see all these mods are on BJ racing has anyone done them yet, apart fom that fuffed to chuck with the bike!

Having recently bought a 1974 tl125 it seems lacking in power, need a manual for the engine, would a Haynes CB or CG 125 suffice, or an alternative Honda engine? wheels & frame not a problem as these only need a good clean etc.
-
Vinnie
So you prefered the 175 to the 125 then? as I'm in a dilemma as to which model, to ride mostly easy routes as I now ride on my TY175 and Tiger Cub. It would be nice to have something which there would be the lack of maintenance, as theres plenty do do on the older bikes!
So I have a choice of a 125 or the new 175? I would keep either model as I usually keep bikes for a good many years, and either would last me out for my riding career.
-
Have tried David Silver Spares or you could try here = http://stores.ebay.com/Vintage-Motorcycle-...displayZ2QQtZkm
For an alternative carb!

BSA mono TY175? Does anyone remember these models based on a TY175 running gear in the early 80's. There were a few when my son used to ride schoolboy trials. Schoolboy trials were very big then in the Bristol area when you could get up 100 riders at an event. Would love to see some pics of this particular model, if anyone has any or who made them etc?
