Well that thing seems to work just fine huh
From what I know about engine manufacturing
development cost is one thing, it can be amortized over years of production, patent infringement is the hardest thing to get around
But after development the costs are still substantially higher to build the 4stroke engine
You can't really charge much more for the bike cuz most buyers don't prefer it over a 2 stroke so it's just a bad business decision
Better to spend development cash on an engine that is easy and cheep to build, but that's already been done to death, 2 stroke is a perfect example
I heard of the ceramic engine but the machining cost is just crazy expensive
It will happen when it needs to happen, necessity breeds invention, maybe 3D printers can be developed to put ceramic together and no machining will be required and they can just spit out finished components

Saturday I was riding a Honda Shadow out of our used showroom and noticed how well I could ride a straight line through the doors at low speed
And I credited my trials riding
So ya, it rewires your brain in a good way

As long as emission controls don't ban 2 strokes they have no reason to spend millions developing a 4 stroke engine that in the end will not neccesarily give a manufacturer any advantage
Japan is different, at some point an important man said "No mo deveropement of 2 cyco engine" (Wrote that phonetically) and they don't look back, if they need an improvement, it's gonna be a better 4 stroke
I don't think all of the current manufacturers would survive if they were all forced to develop 4 stroke only, Beta and Gas gas could pull it off but how about the new guys

SKF makes seals for a lot of manufacturers forks, used a lot of them in the past on KTM etc and they are good stuff

No that's not right
There is no crankcase vent hose on a. 2 stroke, that part is sealed tight against the atmosphere and if it were vented the bike wouldn't even start
it's a transmission vent hose

"On 2 strokes good, high film strength synthetics such as Belray MC1 prevented the wear that was an essential part of the running in process. When the engines were subjected to full power use post running in, problems, usually piston / bore seizures occurred because the parts were not actually fully run / bedded in. These problems became quite well known in karting and 2 stroke road racing in the late 1970s / 1980s. Mineral oils contained impurities that
"chemically" burned off high spots during running in whereas synthetics do not. "
A little input from the Japanese side here is that during this time frame, essentially the edge of the envelope and pinnacle of the 2 stroke development, a lot of metallurgical processes changed as did a lot of machining processes, most significantly iron liners and iron rings went away and plated cylinders were in development
there are a lot of different plating methods (not just "Nikasyl") which now consist of a method of applying ceramics to the cylinder, essentially this plating does not really "wear" under normal circumstances (it really can't as there is less than 1mm of material applied) and the final machine process is "plateau honing" which removes the high spots essentially breaking in the cylinder, so all that needs to happen is the ring (it's plated too) needs to ever so slightly bed to the cylinder, probably within 20 minutes or less, so a Japanese bike pretty much comes broken in, some would call Bull on this but that's why there are pretty much 0 warranty and oil consumption issues on 4 strokes and crazy low failure rates on modern Japanese 2 strokes, also means things we did with engines 20 or 30 years ago don't apply to today's engines
However, I know very little about the plating methods of Italian and Spanish cylinders, Dad can you comment on plating and ring construction on euro bikes?

Can they put Gyro on the bike so in turn on Balance control?
Or like those auto parallel parking cars we can get a Zap or Splat switch

You should only consider plug color on the trail when it's hot
You can't do it hours later or next day
The piston crown is a much better way to jet an engine but it's not easy on a Trials bike
I would look for any amount of carbon buildup on the ctr of the the crown even the size of a nickel, if you have nothing then it's rich but do some hard riding before you check any jetting, idling around will tell you nothing
No carbon means low combustion temp, cold burn, cold piston, wash down

I've seen that Ryan Young vid several times, it really is good to watch, it's simple and very basic but so important

Ok watched both now, the second engine is 2 stroke with intake and ex valves and is supercharged, there is potential for that to be a clean engine aside from the fact that 2 strokes always run a total loss oil system
Problem: Expense, probably more expensive to produce than a 4 stroke, not to mention development cost would be pricey, cam needs to spin at crankshaft speed etc etc
The first engine doesn't give you enough info to tell anything other than it is supercharged
If it's direct injection it doesn't show a pump or anything, D.I. Takes hundreds of lbs of fuel pressure
The biggest joke about 2 strokes is that they are not required to run 2 stroke oil during EPA testing due to a loophole

I think the reason racing applications don't use expensive technology like this is that they don't need it
EFI and DI were more to cleanup tailpipe emissions not necessarily to make more power
EFI is a benefit to a race bike as it allows single throttle valve fly by wire and a very short intake tract etc, there is a lot more precise control because of temp and altitude mapping too
But I wonder what a carb could do if Mikuni and Kei hin had never thought of EFI?

There are lots of fuel injected 2 strokes on the market, problem is fuel injection systems are most often patented and the rights are bought by manufacturers, they are tied up
The other issue is EFI just replaces a carb, it simply more precise, it does not fix a fundemental problem in that the exhaust port is wide open for a period of time and fuel mix just leaks out
EPA keeps getting stricter as well so time is an enemy
So they need Direct injection and that takes lots of fuel pressure, high pressure pumps, powerful battery and stator and a drastic change in the design
So it means expensive rocket science that is prone to warrantable failure, manufacturers don't like warranty
It's not easy to make clean 2 strokes in a light compact package like a bike

Well, don't forget that you don't need to accelerate and brake at the same time
If you are launching up a step or hill you don't need the brake so don't try to cover it when you don't need it
It only takes a split second to get your finger on the lever

Were these bikes Scooters from China or Taiwan?, I don't think any Japanese brands build street able 2 strokes anymore
Emissions is going to kill off low tech 2 strokes for sure in pretty much all non third world countries, it's just a matter of time
It's a simple money thing, it's possible to make a 2 stroke clean but it needs fairly expensive EFI or DI technology precious metals in cat's etc and modern expensive 2 stroke oils
4 strokes are much less expensive to make compliant, the most basic old tech fuel injection tech works and they don't run a total loss oil system so they are way ahead right from the beginning

What do you mean by the throttle off position?
I would say that if that's something you need to think about then just try and get past it, think more about what you are doing and where you are going and the throttle simply disappears, it needs to become organic and automatic
As for slack
You just need a hair of slack in the cable, when you turn the bars one side will snug up the cable and the other will slacken slightly
Adjust it so you have just a slight amount on the snug side

And, after it's set perfectly
They will still want to run rich on steep downhills, you can't fix it so you will need to pull in the clutch and blip

Most of the time it's just dust plugging the seal and it's not faulty
You can make a seal saver or buy one from a dirt bike shop
It's just a J hook made from something like a goggle lense, make sure you sand all the sharp edges so you don't cut the seal

A clutch squeak is actually chatter, it's just so fast that it comes across as a howl or chirp
So it's slip grip slip grip, cause could be more than one thing
Try a different oil first
If tear down is needed measure plate thickness, maybe they are glazed and only need a deglaze
