Well it seems like some of us that should know better are looking down there noses at the Average wobbler Trial maybe this puts folk off? None of the big events mentioned really bring in new folk even probably Dougie started at a club trial.

Guilty as charged to post 2901 I'm trying to make people that are not Trials Riders ,Trials riders. So you're saying the entire grassroots club scene is rubbish, that's what it reads like.

Are you two saying that single lap /route very stiff trial with roadwork and a large entry fee is what the average rider is looking for? I've been doing this trials thing wrong for years. What have I been thinking?

46 years that's even longer than me. There is a lack of consistency for sure , Not just between clubs but in clubs themselves, a complete luckybag. It would be good to have a standard level/layout for club trials. Well done for lasting so long.

Plenty riders about but as Jimmyl says you've got to run trials that suit them. On it says he doesn't ride trials anymore but there could be good reasons for this not all clubs make you welcome . Why don't you go to trials now Onit?

My only thing with my Ossa is how hard I have to kick it to start it. Though it starts well the sudden stop of the kickstart againt the frame knocks hell out of my Achilles. I am quite old though so maybe that's more of a problem mind it's a full 300 the 280 is easier to kick. THe best bits are that you never really have to clean the air filter unlike most bikes where it's a constant job and the radiator always stays clean . The plastics are also great and the exhast is well protected. But as I said before if it plays up you need someone that knows them to help out.

As an Ossa owner I'll give you my Tuppence. Early ones were kind of used for R&D tricky to start and the transmisions were problematic. They kind of had it all sorted by the time they went bust which was a pity as some of the ideas they had were superb. They're not as easy to get hold of as some would suggest I certainly wouldn't be giving it away, mine it also runs better than any carb bike I've tried.only issues I've had is faulty crank bearings which I'm assured was a manufacturing problem The importer repaired it at minimal cost. Would I buy an early one ? Only if I had a really good dealer nearby who knows them.

Here's my take on one part of the scene. Club trials should have an easy route with a slightly harder route tacked on. That's it nothing else. Set out for beginners and casual riders Nothing for hard core riders or a practice session for aspiring champions. Should be the same wheater it be in Cornwall or Inverness so a rider would know roughly what they're in for. Nationals/Centre champs leave them for the experienced folk, We've ended up with club Trials like Nationals and vice versa it doesn't work,

The bikes are too complicated but so are the rules and the way multi routes have developed. The whole sport needs streamlined . Generally speaking the more enjoyable a hobby the simpler it is and Trials flies in the face of this at all levels.

For sure I've not seen many Montesa 4rts with a gun mount fitted. Should come as standard.

East Neuk Wobblers is the club I help run Dunfermline and Dist MCC is our other local club. I'm the old guy on the front page of the Dunfermline site. We've a Trial on Sunday if you're quick mind you we run loads.

A deals a deal there's a documentary coming up by Comedian Ross Noble on the six days (Starts 7 Dec on Dave) give you a flavour of it. Turkish Champion? WE had a lad from Kenya Turned up at our club trial was here to ride the 6 days said he was Kenyan Champion. impressed I got on of our boys to show him round and he dropped about a 100 marks on a novice route., Found out later they only had 6 riders.

You won't learn much here but you'll get a good laugh. I suppose a trip to see the famous Scottish Six days in May may be worthwhile . Frankly you're average Trials rider has a pretty basic skill level only a few can really ride to a high standard. Most just dodge around at club level though you do need quite a bit of practice not to look like a complete pudding. Your problems not unique. a friend of mine retired to Portugal and there was no tials scene there the price of bikes was crazy and most of them are made just across the border. If your ever mad enough to appear at one of our trials you can ride my bike in it.

That looks like Scotland except the riders look sober and don't weigh the same as a small car. Not ridden a KTM freeride Trials bikes only these days.

Could you be holding on too tightly? I've been riding for years and I automatically relax my grip whenn it's not required . Just an idea.

We're certainly spoiled here in Scotland but I would swap you the weather. I really wish I could give you some decent advice but I really don;t know what to say. As there's no Trials scene out there would a specialsed trials bike be needed could a Trail/Enduro style bike be adapted for basic trials use? I really don't know. As for your limited choice I would plump for the Sherco only because they're a bit more basic than the Gas Gas so easier to repair but that's just an opinion. As for riding my only advice is take it slowly and learn the basics. Hope it works out for you. Cheers the noo.

Makes sense to have it in what most would consider the heartland to motorcycle Trials. Certainly best place to get a good attendance and a great atmosphere.. Might even get a passport and head down,

On a slightly wider note Trials has far too many classes which combined with multi route trials makes the whole scene a guddle. I know the ACU work hard to please everyone but it's impossible. Anyway I'm away to enter the over 53, clapped out air cooled mono , must live in Fife and have a dog called Breagh class in Sundays Trial. Just have to decide what route to ride now..

Hi Scorpa and welcome. Not many of these bikes around the Trials scene these day's. I've owned a 163 since late 06 and it's been the best made bike I've ever had and I've had dozens. It's totally stock and probably runs better than the first day I got it. It's done 100s of Trials and is my default bike for setting out events so it's had some stick. I've ridden ones that have been tweaked with lightened flywheels carb mods and different exhausts and they all ran worse than mine so I would say leave it stock if it runs ok,don't try to make it into something it isn't. Mine doesn't get much just the odd oil change and tape up the airbox where it joins the mudgurd to keep the mud out . Great bikes everybody should have one. Have fun.

I know I'm down for an Ossa 300 but mostly I ride a Scorpa 163. This is basically a trials bike with an old generator engine. Fantastic fun and you can actually open the throttle unlike on the 300 where you ponce about in high gears just of the tickover. Most trials about here are won by kids on 125s or worse on 80s but riders are not swayed by this fact and aspire to the big motors.

Hi laud, if I mind right years ago the clutch slave cyl got jammed in on my lads SY . Seemed odd at the time and the bike had no drive. Think it was something to do with the washer that holds the plunger in. Check this out before you start stripping things down but it sounds like your problem funny feeling it's caused by the poorly designed clutch arm. Cheers the noo.
