  1. looking at the picture the gap between your adjuster and the lug on the swing arm shouldn't be there, it looks as if the adjuster has turned with the nut.
  2. You said it yourself " We were all riding British machines, none of which had been designed and built for the sport, but merely adapted from the current road machinery." With such varied machinery being adapted it was the engineering capability of the builder/rider that was the deciding factor in building a competitive british bike. There are still some pretty trick bikes out there that aren't cheating. I think we should count ourselves lucky that so many can still compete in our sport at varying levels on on varying budgets.
  3. Not sure what yours are, but i fitted a set of NJB Trick shocks to my Montesa and they are great. I am a bit heavier than you and they handle anything I chuck at them. Good value as welL. Different springs available and easy to set up and adjust.
  4. Mikuni - available jetted for the bike from in motion, fitted one to my Montesa mh200. It makes a huge difference, better all round and ultra reliable.
  5. Have you checked the water pump is circulating the coolant, if not this can cause rapid overheating and lead quickly to the piston seizing in the barrel.
  6. Excellent tyres, have them on all three of my bikes. Very popular in the south of the uk.
  7. Good choice of bike, I ride a trial on mine every week and its yet to let me down. I would recommend you check it selects all the gears and finds neutral. The 200 gearbox is probably the weakest part of the bike. Check that the kickstart returns and has a return spring fittled. The engine oil drain plug is difficult to get at (under right frame tube) these are often damaged with stripped threads. If the bike has been open to the elements check the aluminium components for corrosion particularly the fork yokes and if you can access them the brake drums. The akront wheel rims do tend to get a bit knocked about but as you intend to have them refurbed that should sort them out. If you are getting the seat unit resprayed check the fibreglass on the area around the seat and rear shocks this is the part that usually gets damaged or cracks and would benefit from some additional fibre glass to strengthen it. Also make sure tank does not leak. If you need to knwo more pm your phone number.   9. Chris, recently had the same with my 280 Pro resulting in the bike seizing and a costly bill for repairs. In my case it was the water pump that had failed, not sure if you are familiar with how this operates but basically the plastic impellor had stripped its left hand thread and was not turning with the shaft and therefore not circulating the coolant. A repair kit is available for about £70-£80 or the complete unit is about £150. Just to let you know I could not find fault with my pump until it was stripped down.   10. I have just had mine done, Genuine soles cost £28 from trials uk and my local cobbler fitted them. A word of warning though - the soles are very soft and it takes a lot of work to grind to grind the old soles off. The cobbler fitted them for £20 agreed before he had done the work. He said it should really have been double the cost for the time it took.
  11. My Montesa 314 R has been stolen from my garage some time over the last 4 days. Please let me know if you hear of anyone trying to sell one. It is easily recognised as it has 315 forks fitted and many mods to the rear subframe and brakes. many thanks, Paul.
  12. Lineway - what makes this such a terrible bike? Fred, I have one its my first modern trials bike and I get on fine with it. Their are many ways to tame it if necessary with a smaller front sprocket and a slow action throttle. Its reliable and parts are easy to get hold of. I really rate it - I tried the others and any of them would have been great but i liked the feel of the gas gas. I obviously can't say if it would suit you but i would certainly ignore advice that writes off anything as terrible when so many people are using them at all levels. Give a few a go then buy what you like best.
  13. I think this highlights how potentially damaging "no stop" could be for our sport. For many years tennis had arguements over disputed points so they brought in hawkeye, football is looking at goal line technology and rugby uses the tv referee. It is sad that at the top level, unless each competitor is video recorded from a number of angles in each section the decision will rest with the observer and it will be the observer who incurs the wrath of the the competitor. Who will want to observe with this added responsibility? What happens at lower levels where video is not an option and observers give up their time for a coffee a burger and the love of the sport? Still, new bike sales must be booming!

  15. I run 9 - 42 with a slow tube on my 280 Pro. Tamed it a lot, but can easily be changed back in minutes.

  18. Here's hoping he didn't miss the post about hooking up the kill switch! Keep your eye's open for a runaway gasgas with a very tired looking rider who's gotta keep going until he runs out of fuel!! No clutch and no kill switch, not so much a test ride more of an adventure!!! j13me - give us an update soon, this is better than Eastenders!!

Model of bike, TXT PRO Engine size, 280 Year of bike, 2007 Transmission fluid used, MOTUL 5100 10W40 Did you change type of oil - What type did you change from and to, are you happy with result- I only got the bike recently but was not happy with the noise from the clutch or the fact that i couldn't select neutral with a running engine. The bike was filled with ATF which i replaced with Motul 5100. The noise is greatly reduced and i can now select neutral easily. Clutch functions fine. How often (hours) changed - I will be changed after approx 10 hours use. Clutch feel - light and easy, very smooth. Usual riding terrain- chalkpits and steep banked woodland
  21. I've heard a rumour that he doesn't do weights, just pumps his pre 65 clutch every day, one time with each hand !!!! Just a rumour though, no proof!!
  22. j13me, don,t allow yourself to complicate things. This is not a new bike to you. When you put it away 8 years ago it ran fine! Therefore you know the jets in the carb worked. Assuming the shed mice in Great Yarmouth don't know how how to change Dellorto jets and the Norfolk area hasn't changed altitude overnight, these should be correct. If they are all clean then don't change them, at best replace them with new parts of the same size!! Assemble the bike as it is intended to be run(with the air filter fitted) and adjust the fuel screw as previously described. Be patient and keep it simple. Correct setting of the fuel screw will be achieved when you open the throttle fast from a slow tickover and it revs up freely without bogging. Hope this helps.

Seems to me your worrying about something which need not be an issue. you clearly will be putting the air filter on when you find it and would not be using the bike without it, so only when you've got it on is the time to fault find and set up the carb. Two turns out is a good place to start with the fuel screw and adjust from there as needed. Glad you got it running it makes all your previous frustration worthwhile.
  24. fuel screw should only be out about 2.5 turns, it must be nearly falling out at 3.5
