    Show Us Your Ty

Nice custom job and very different - makes a change to make a TY very retro versus into a modern bike (I’m not a fan of the no seat look etc) Guess you can enter the pre 65 class?!!!
  3. Denham Aerodrome has been a regular fixture for ever - certainly since I started riding about 40 years ago (with a lot of gaps in between!!!). I do think it would suit what (I think) you’re after. Alas, I wasn’t at Stokenchurch - my wife is recuperating from an ACL operation So I’m a bit grounded for the next few weeks - garden section area coming on well though! Do try HUX - think it will be good for confidence.
  4. Being fairly local and knowing very well the sort of terrain you’re riding, I’d 100% recommend getting up to a HUX practice at Denham Airfield on 2nd/4th Sundays of each month from 10am. Free but you do need to join the club in advance. Really friendly crew and will be on the money to get you rolling.
  5. Not as boggy as Beckley and the climbs are less steep. It’s a good ride round and (like Ixion) Wycombe lay on really well organised trials.
  6. Lycra multi-coloured clothing. Power Rangers!

    Avoriaz

We snowboard a lot in Avoriaz. But this is a slightly different use of the resort. If you know Avoriaz then you’ll know the cliff that drops down below the village… And nice to see the bike survived!
  8. You’d love the 2nd & 4th Sundays at Denham Aerodrome - HUX. For the Wycombe/Ixion type trials it would be really good practice and a great bunch.
  9. The country (well England - note sure about the rest of the UK) is split into Centres. So (for example) South Midland Centre, South Eastern Centre, etc, etc. Some trials are totally ‘open’ so it doesn’t matter where your club is based. Most are either ‘open to centre’ (so your club has to be in that centre’, ‘group’ (so a selection of clubs in that group - the Meteor Group in the South Midland Centre is an example) or ‘closed to club’ (so just for members of that club). You’ll see what an event is from the supplementary regs on the ACU website. But per earlier you can join more than one club. Hope that makes sense!
  10. I guess where you are based then joining different clubs might allow you to ride different centre events. Someone will probably correct me but North Berks will be in a different centre than Ixion or Wycombe. That would open things out for you. And multi club isn’t a problem.
  11. Thinking back to my last Montesa 315, I used to run at 75-80:1. And with Putoline. Do check on the Beta forum but definitely don’t do 50:1 chainsaw oil!
  12. Hmm - probably not. Nothing wrong with Stihl (also use for my chainsaws) but I’d be inclined to go with a trials specific 2T oil. Ask on the Beta forum here (I use Putoline). And definitely ask there on the ratio - I would suspect it’s a lot less that 50:1 which is what I use for my 46 year old TY.
  13. Gorgeous bike (except perhaps the tyres!!). And love the patina - a 53 year old bike shouldn’t be dressed up to be a newbie. Nice.
  14. Definitely hang onto the TY80. I bought a minter for my son when he was about 10 but he never got into it (skateboarding took over). Wonderful little bike and wished we’d kept it. TY Trials are really good - have used for my 175 with great service… https://www.tytrials.com/trailandtrialsuk/cat_43326-1-TY80-Parts.html Good luck and keep it for the family heirloom!!
  15. Don’t think anyone’s got any beef - just the paranoia of losing land. Best of luck and enjoy your trials riding!
  16. Totally agree (although we’re not all bad darn sarf 😉) - no way should you jet wash at an event.

    TMX

Thursday usually but my village shop hasn’t had it in for a couple of weeks…
  18. Great choice - I sold my 2016 260RT earlier this year to buy a new one. Having had it for 5 years it was an awesome bike. Keep on top of the usual maintenance and then the oil/oil filter changes and you’ll never have any problems. Good luck and enjoy!
  19. I always get a local mechanic to do the oil filter (why is it such a nightmare?!).
  20. Glad you enjoyed it Hughie. And Beckley is such a decent blast round!
  21. Hope you got there Hughie - another great Ixion trial. Sections 3 and 4 might have been a baptism of fire for a first trial on the easy route but you can always ask for fives when you do ride a trial. Always staggering how the sand banks of sections 7-10 dry out after the torrential rain yesterday!
  22. And if you’ve ridden on your drive then try and practice tight figure of eights (plenty online)
  23. Enter it - you can always ask for fives at anything you really don’t fancy - it won’t be a problem at all. Ixion is a really friendly club with well run trials and Beckley is a nice blast round. Nb I think you will definitely need to enter in advance on the ACU website. I am entered (subject to bloody petrol) so more than happy to scoot round with you - easiest pm me. And apart from the other clubs mentioned, HUX has a practice ground which is pretty sociable and free (with membership) on 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month.

    172 Questions…

Sorry just seen this - many thanks for the response. Carb sounds like a top tip as mine was awful even back in 1978
