I rode schoolboy trials in the 80's but can t remember the place you mean, I thought you where talking about Langley Park at first which Durham County used to have
-
so why didnt you get the flwheel nut and the primary gear nut undone at Steves while you were at it ?
Ive never tried holding the flywheel mate
-
any success with the clutch basket Wayne ?
gear is all here to do it if your stuck
Clutch Basket 1 Wayne 0 !
Primary gear is quite hard to remove as well
-
without wishing to start a bun fight compare the latest 4rt to Ragas prototype Gas Gas.
either the Mont is totally over engineered or that Gas Gas is going to snap ! my mountain bike has thicker frame tubes than the new Pro !
-
You can do some practice in your garage
how good is your balance ?
you can try putting the bike in gear then putting the front wheel up against a wall (about 3 foot from the ground) then see if you can balance the bike , with the back brake on you should be able able to hop the front wheel on the flat, and balancing the bike on the flat is also good.
okay you will not learn throttle control but your using all the right muscles and improving your balance so its better than nothing.
I'm assuming you have a garage or garden ?
-
PJ1 is Blue
not sure if any others are
-
I do hope you have problems fitting those bearings Wayne
mrs baldilocks is a born and bread mackem, I dread to think where she'll put your bearings.
seals leaking will be the least of your worries !!!
AND
just in , from Mrs Baldilocks, Portsmouth 4 Toon 1 !!

Great for Alex yes but I think the WTC would be more balanced if TRW ploughed there money into sherco, gas gas or scorpa. Beta have TTT and Honda are doing well enough with their own team which is hardly short of cash !
why did TRW pick the Montesa ? They make lots of trick parts for the Mont but how many people have bought some TRW kit, just out of interest ?
if the same amount was invested in a production Gas Gas or Sherco how good would it be ? My view, and its just an opinion, is that comparing the standard bikes the Gas Gas or the Sherco is more competitive.

Try this Brian, but it has limited info

Hi Folks
I'm thinking of riding one of the above trials next year as I can t get to the SSDT. I'm thinking of making it a family holiday though and taking Mrs Baldilocks and the kids along then staying elsewhere in France for another week after the trial.
Does anyone know if there is Bed and Breakfast or Hotel accomodation near either event as I dont fancy trying to persuade Mrs Baldilocks and the kids to sleep in a transit for the first week !
cheers

Zippy
check that the pad is floating freely on the slit pins or bolt that retains the pad in the caliper. They can stick, I recently had this problem, and couldnt understand how I had pressure at the lever but the bike wasnt stopping very well, either clean up the pin / bolt with sandpaper or file the hole out a little in the pad.
Ned
you could be onto something there mate, Ive notced before that one edge of the rear pads wears faster than the other, dont know if its the leading or trailing edge. Also I was looking at the rear disc on a Gas Gas yesterday and that has cutaways on the inside edge of the disc. Perhaps they were designed like that as at one time the FIM banned wavy discs ?
-
Mulder and Scully.........
or perhaps Ant and Dec.
On seperate note and not connected to Copemechs question I see those technological / manufacturing halfwits the Chinese put another rocket into space today and plan to have a man on the moon and possibly a take away within 10 years !
of course they couldnt possibly make somthing as advanced as a trials bike Could they ?
-
Ned heres another experiment for you.
find someone with an 07 sherco with wavy discs, under light braking you can feel a slight pulsing on the lever as the disc rotates. This I think is the effect of the reduced circumference part in the outside edge of the disc passing through the pads. Although the disc is flat the pressure applied must force the top edge of the pad to close when the reduced circumference passes through and the disc will then force the pad apart again as the wider (greater circumference not disc width) part passes through the pads.
now do the same thing on a 4rt and you get the same pulsing effect.
except the 4rt has cutaways, its not a wavy disc.
I'm quite happy to admit I'm wrong if you can explain the above, its just my theory that the cutaways act like an edge on a wavy disc.
cheers

Sorry Copemech that could be true but I can t see anyone with friends in the trade or connected to a current brand coming out and saying the Xispa is good , can you ? I think most xispa comments probably need a shovel rather than a pinch of salt until a production bike arrives. Where did this "test ride" take place anyway ? area 51 ?

Can you explain how Fujigas riding around was an advantage to any rider. I witnessed plenty of people helping riders with the choice of line in sections, but this wasn't limited to the top riders.
I don't know the rules regarding changing of wheels, but if it breaks the rules then it should be penalised. As regards the statement regarding fresh bikes, I think that is a load of rubbish. If it is true name and shame.
If fuji and other good riders present but not competing are equally helpful to all then fine but its not in the spirit of the event.
Did fuji point out any lines to Graham Jarvis ? Also lots of people shout out lines to you when your riding the Scott but some peoples advice is worth a lot more. Ie John Shirt or Kinell who would you listen to for directions Cota Kid ? do you think fuji, shirty and co would be hangin around to advise us ?
as regards spare wheels how many ptrivateers have one and someone prepared to chase them round the fuel checks ?
its all academic really, as Perce says and I agree, you cant effectively police the Scott.
-
has wiggy signed for anyone next year ? what a great rumour...
-
Your both right, top lads have enough advantage already without having outriders such as fuji kicking about and then spare wheels available but as Perce said you need an awful lot of marshalls to stop this on the scott course.

Ive put a drain on my air filter box using a non return valve from a petrol breather tube. I drilled the airbox and fitted a tyre valve then put some petrol pipe on the end of it and a non return valve on the end of the pipe which sits in the back of the sump plate. The valve wont allow muck to get sucked in but will let water out. Handy if its tipping down with rain and the rivers are full as it lets water out if it gets past the filter.
Copemech is right though , you need to clean the filter box after every ride.

what? you do realise that the discs are flat and there is no edge for them to bite on?
grip a Gas Gas or mont disc between finger and thumb and slowly spin the wheel until you find the edge, yes the disc is flat but the large cutaway creates an effect like an edge as it passes through the pads.
then report to detention to write up your findings
-
Paul Battensby got round I'm presuming in time but I dont know.
as he said not bas for an old man !
-
I think the gas gas and monts have shapes machined out rather than holes.
The shapes act a little like a wavy disc so that the pad is always biting on an edge rather than a smooth surface.
I dont think you will get the same effect from just drilling holes but you could just buy a disc of another make of bike as all the hubs are AJP anyway. I have seen Shercos with Beta front discs fitted.

Another tip
go and knock his windows out .
the Pinky was introduced in 1991 so you may have a white frame TYR or its actually a 1991 model.
If its a front disc brake mounted directly onto the fork leg it will be a pinky
an absolutely belting bike whichever model it is
-
Blame Jordi Tarres, first bloke I saw in a one piece suit.
I got one for nowt, I look like i'm carrying a wok up me jumper !
never wore it at a trial
-
I dont think its cool at all.
Last time it was posted on here I asked for it to be removed.
No foot wheelies past a lady pushing a pram ?
dont you think our image is bad enough without posting this ??
how far is this away from tearing around a council estate on a mini moto ?
doesn't show our sport in a good light although it is skillful.
