  1. Thats not Tony Scarlett on the JCM (99) its Patrick Fereud (I think thats his real name) otherwise known as MAYA, he was Berlatiers minder for a while at Aprillia
  2. The first two pics are definately 87, Saunders was on the Rothmans Honda in 86, my first year. In 87 I was right at the back of the entry list number 290, Les caught me up a few times. Apparently he went down to John boys I think on the tuesday before hand to try the Beta with a view to moving on to it after Scotland. He liked it so much he rode it in Scotland, his Dad thought it was a little rash to change bikes that late. Dougie is on a 1995 Techno so guess that will be 95, his second win.
  3. I dont think those grips are pre 65 and the side pull throttle definitley isnt BANNED !!
  4. I'm no fan of the 4RT to be honest but I still think the HRC factory bike is best out of all the factory bikes and thats Dougs problem really. He is now trying to compete with the same riders as last year but his bike isnt as competitive. still as many others have said it would be great to see him win another round
  5. Brian Hutchinson I doubt anyone has photos of him doing any farm work !! He was riding at the Richmond Club Boxing day trial and there were some photos on here but not sure if they had a photo of the long snorted legend ( well he does call me baldy)

    Reeds

You can get them off motomerlin on ebay, thats where I got mine, they arrived within two days so I recommend them as a supplier.
  7. Windlestone is this another problem on the perfect bike ? shut off the gas, you have engine braking so no need for a brake anyway I'm going to regret this Gary aren't I?? see you Sunday
  8. I rode a Beta in the 03 SSDT to be fair john boy was excellent in that every rider was given a kit to change the stator if it failed out on the moors. BUT it is now 2008 and despite John saying the later 2003 stators had been modified and would not fail clearly this is not the case. Its ridiculous that a modern bike has had a known problem for 5 years, sorry betabonkers but saying the last failure you had was 2004 isnt good enough. The electrics are rubbish and need sorting out. Now what happened to that xispa bike, current quality but cheaper !
  9. I think this depends where you live, some bikes are better in mud some are better on rocks. BUT if you want quality then its a BETA, SCORPA or MONT choice. In terms of performance for the trials I ride there is only a gasser or a sherco to choose from. My sherco has been far more reliable than the Gas Gas Pros I had previously but I accept that the build quality on a beta, scorpa or mont is better. Frankly its my cash and i couldnt care less what wins at wtc level. The riders are much better than me and it doesnt matter how much cash I have I can t buy the bike they ride, so why take any notice ?
  10. Whats the worst number the winner of the SSDT has had then John ? it was some ride by Martin to win with number 58, he must have been about 10th away on the tuesday. Suppose it depends how good a number the other top boys had ?
  11. maybe thats what was wrong with Dougie ? doubt his will be from slovenia
  12. I have waited a very long time for this... Big John Nigel Birkett appears to be on a 156 Fantic not a 240. The 240 forks and yokes are different and the barrel is all black on a 240 and the sprocket appears to be on the left, the 240 had the sprocket on the right fingers crossed I'm right ! I could be on Nevis radio again with this !! might not see you in May John as another little quinn is due but maybe if I take the double buggy.........
  13. in 2003 it was roughly
  14. Try the coupling at the front of the carb as even when tight I could still move the carb on my sons TY80. If not ignition side crank seal ?
  15. Thanks for this Dabster, watched it yesterday and enjoyed it. the other content on that channel looks a little dubious mind, makes me wonder how you found it

    Chains

IRIS make more than one 520 chain and Dougie and pals wont be using the **** one some people have been supplied with. Renthal make the R1 and its excellent. Happy new chain and a prosperous new year !

like most of us who rode then you probably thought you needed the power when really the Yam had enough. the other problem with the Yam was it was around so long without changing, people get bored
  19. might be an 05 problem as both of the 05 bikes I had broke the last tooth off the kickstart gear, a 250 and a 280. A friend of mines 05 280 had the same problem. None of my 06 Gas Gas bikes had a problem with the kick start gear but plenty of other things went wrong ! bought a sherco , similar to ride to a gas gas but its lasted a lot better
  20. wahey now we can all lol at you because they did were you born in 2006 perhaps HA HA

It was a funny thing the ty 250 mono. Have to agree with Rosey it was a great leap forward, you only have to look at the 300 fantic to realise how far ahead the Yamaha was. However picking up on the nostalgia point , the Yam mono did the basics very very well and was almost indestructible. However it rarely made you smile as it didnt surprise you very often. It certainly wasnt powerful but for most of us it had enough for our ability. Just enough power and good steering and suspension meant the bike made you think you were better than you really were. A lot of us found this out when moving to Beta, Gas Gas, Aprillia etc and finding our results were a lot worse.
  22. There is a photo on that link of Geoff Young, he's still riding today. If you look at the front page of TC there are some results and photos from the castleside trial on the 23 dec, look at the photos and the guy in the green flourescent trousers is Geoff. Geoff rides his own bike a Bantaco which I think is a Bantam engine in an early bultaco frame. Geoff was riding this bike when I was ten years old, he's still riding it now and I'm 40 in June !! A great fella wonder if the Xispa lasts that long ??????
  23. gg249uk i tried to pm you but your inbox is full pm me when you have cleared it out and i'll send you some info
  24. SSDT I have missed quite a few since I first rode back in 1986 but I ride whenever I can and I love it. This year I found it harder, particularly wednesday but its still the best trial in the world. The only bit I dont like, and Ive never liked, is the drive back home when its all over. Reeth is very good as well if you cant do the SSDT but I dont think anything for me will ever better the six days.
  25. so the lady in question can reach the steering wheel to drive to the shops perhaps ?
