  1. its funny you should say that DG as ive been caught out before but ive only ever damaged the bike when having one more go, it will be different next time that little voice says "go on once more ya wimp" i can tell it to f**k right off from now on!! If I listened to the little voices saying "You've had enough" I don't think I'd ever finish a trial
  2. Have a look at this project. Look through the Gallery, then have a look in the download section. Just look at the cars it catches. Nippy little camper van
  3. Mind you - I can't see anyone on there that does anodised rims? Have a search - I know I've seen posts on here before including suppliers. Jitsie got some good bling - anodised brake adjusters/petrol caps. Ebay's good for anodised bolts once you know what you want. Trialcast got some good stuff - I just bought the new exhaust guard and another set of his ghost pegs - I'll let you know how the guard wears, I know the pegs are solid. Only replacing mine after 3 years and that's because they were very early versions with no spacers [steve if you're wondering how I got hold of them a lad at work bought them on my behalf - keeps the accounts away from prying eyes ]
  4. It wasn't there. I think this was the result of "the voice of the customer" People asked - TC provided Front page - Site Information drop down menu - Trials Central Sponsor List
  5. LOL - That's great I think you're describing the same thing as me - I think the Gasser got too good for me, really light on the front end. I ride bottom end of expert route, but I don't think I've got the balance to do a Gasser justice. They can make me look pretty poor sometimes, whereas 2 years ago I rode the 300 and loved it. The Sherco feels more 'planted to me' - less affected by things you hit accidentally Same for the Beta and Montesa to be honest, although I've only tried them out briefly.
  6. You'll probably get a lot of varied responses. None of them are duffers so don't worry about buying something thats just not competitive. For me, the Beta or Montesa would probably be the better starter bikes. I just think they're smoother, more forgiving. Some would probably group the Scorpa in the same category - my own personal thing - I just don't like 'em. New they seem fine, but always seem to turn in to a tractor quicker than the others. GasGas got too light for me last year, if you're good at flicking a push bike around you may love the Gasser and it'd certainly be enough for you till you take on your first world round but won't last like the Beta. Take this with a pinch of salt - it's just my own view of them - I'm in your weight category too, in fact a stone past it. For me - Sherco 290, but I know for some beginners the 290 has got too much grunt. I wouldn't discount the Gasser 300 - I prefer to the 250 which always seems very sharp.
  7. Get a 4RT, and you won't have same problem again. If engine doesn't cut out quick enough automagically, it'll cough and splutter as soon as your head gets near to being pulled round. Don't get a Gasser, they'll never find neutral, or a Beta, it'll p*ss fuel all over you to add insult to injury. Anyone I haven't upset? Only joking chaps, no need to flame me - I would consider buying each one of them (note I don't joke about Scorpas)
  8. How do youlot normally get the swinging arm bearings out? I've tried big tube on outside, socket on inside and crush in vice. I have a feeling I just need a bigger vice. There's 4 bearings in there yeah? All can be pushed straight through either way? The word of warning is: Don't have a few beers then just nip in to oil your chain. Forgot all about the chain.
  9. All those people trying to get you out, and not one of them thinks to pick up a camera? Lucky chap stump magnet, looks like you'll get away with it nicely. Most awkward one I'd seen up until now is the left leg stuck down between the swinging arm and the wheel. Had to take spindle out and cut through most of the spokes to get him out. Were thinking about cutting through swinging arm at one point. Luckily it was a 12-13 year old lad you who had a bit of flexibility in his bones. I think this one tops it Stump Magnet
  10. To give a quick answer which someone can expand on later, yep totally normal for clutch to stick a wee bit. Mine ranges from nothing to 50 yds with the brakes on. Coolant, not so sure of the official answer - I was told a while ago to use VW coolant then dilute it 50:50 with water. I think it's VW G11 coolant, but someone else may clarify. Worked in mine for 4 years without problems (touch wood).
  11. It was sunny round here yesterday (Hawkstone area), so the BBC 5 day forecast had it fairly good for the weekend. They also had light showers for today. It's been torrential rain for the past 5 hours so the BBC have changed their mind again and it's going to be bad again. The good guess considering what we've had for weeks is that it's gonna rain
  12. Gas Gas Fan site. Not Gas Gas site. There is a difference. It's also almost entirely enduro based. Do they normally release trials/enduro same time? Or are they usually treated entirely separately?
  13. D'ya reckon they'll send it along for Raga to play on at Hawkstone then? Ya never know.
  14. You have evidence of this? if not, then I suggest you offer an apology for that disingenuous remark. I'd say as an observer last time I was rooting for Dougie, but if I helped anyone maybe it was Raga, only by being absolutely fair when some of the crowd are shouting out for a '5'. To be honest I'd love Raga to lose marks where Dougie cleans, but I'm not going to affect that. When they come through I ignore who it is (and I honestly do). I'd like to think everybody's like that (even with the foul mouthed scumbag Pole who hoped my family died from a painful disease - Taddy). Don't think I'm observing this year so obviously I'll have a catapult with Raga's name on it, and a shotgun with Taddy's Up the Brits
  15. I won't try to patronise, so no flames please. I know the 280 and 300 like a big kick. Sounds a bit lame, but the difference in getting a bick kick on it makes a difference every time for a couple of bikes I know of. I can start my mates bike every single time, I think just because of the extra height and a big leg on it, while it regularly takes a while for him. I've no doubt that there are some tweaks that can be done to ease this, so it's not the real answer, but does make a massive difference. Lucky the kickstarts aren't made of monkey shlt eh
  16. Now back on the ward - Beech D Ward, Room 15, Cumberland Inrfirmary, Carlisle. Getting some reconstructive work done now. He may turn out to be the best looking one in the family when they've finished (I'm gonna be in trouble I know).
  17. In more organised centres there will be a recorder, and he'll let you know when you qualify - If you want to upgrade yourself in a lot of centres, you just ride the next class up, and consider yourself upgraded. You won't be allowed to downgrade yourself later on. All centres can be different though. Example here of the rules for Cheshire and North Wales Centre
  18. What do people use to get the tops off? Is there a special tool for the 'internal socket' (more of my techno babble wizardry eh?) I set about making one then gave up and almost embarrassed to say got them off in the vice soft jaws - I've not got the tools to make one it seems See - not me - it's the tools Honest
  19. I ordered new fork seals for my 04 and they were the same. I'm measuring the old ones here, which I did chew up a bit getting out, but here goes: Internal diameter 38mm External Diameter 50mm Height 8mm Then the 2mm flexible lip on the inside - that doesn't make much sense that bit eh, but you'll probably know what I mean looking at it :-)
  20. Still intensive care at the moment, but past the worst of it, so I hear. Will let you know when he goes on to a ward.
  21. Not sure how many of you know Grant Adamson, he's a relative on my wife's side, I think he was first off in the SSDT last year (or was it year before - time flies). He's had a bit of an "off" while riding his mountain bike. Forks snapped, and he face planted. Broken jaw, broken nose, broken cheek bone, badly swollen, needs plating and a bit of rebuilding, but off the ventilator now. Was in a bit of a mess. He's in Carlisle hospital now, waiting for the swelling to go down before they can do much work on him. One of my all time fears is the forks snapping - I know John B is a regular on here and I used to knock around on the bikes with his brother as a lad, he did the same thing but downhill on tarmac and took a long while to recover. It's always stuck in my mind. Anyway, thought I'd wish Grant well on here and let people know he'll be off the road for a while.
  22. Sounds like somebody's taking things a little too seriously unless your yellow route turns out to be your British Championship route. As a qualified National Clerk of the Course I would back any observer (in a local club trial) who decided to do this for the good of the trial. There's nothing more annoying as a clerk of the course than turning up at a section which has been ruined by some unlucky event, when it could have been avoided if I'd been there to do something, or if the observer felt empowered to do something. It's a common sense thing, and apart from a few people who have taken the question from a riders perspective rather than an impartial observer, the majority seem to agree.
  23. One of my mates went out with a German lass in 1991 that was slightly more scary than that Is that the same bloke that glided over to France, I think sponsored by red bull?
  24. I have to admit i don't like to pounce on someone without knowing all the details. Not all military land used to be signed that well. Maybe it is now - i dunno. I lived on the back of Salisbury plain for a few years, literally out of my back gate on to it, and we used it for running, walking dogs, orienteering, mountain biking, and even went out on it practicing enduro. I was in the forces but I'm not sure we ever actually asked permission to go on there. However, not sure there is an awful lot you can do other than take your punishment and stay clear in the future.
  25. As an observer I'd probably move it out of the way of the yellow route (if that's your novice route). It wasn't there for half the entry and probably not going to make a better section, and it wasn't even a rider on that route that moved it. Make the decision as the observer and the rule book doesn't come in to question. You're not a rider or a person who has an interest in a riders performance. You are an official and I would say within your rights to play fair and return the section to the way it was intended. Judgement call on the day. As a rider, don't even think about touching it. Most you can do is ask the observer nicely if he (or she) wants it moved
