  1. My lads had a beta 50 for a couple of years and enjoyed, but he's 10 now (although a small skinny 10) and starting to feel the Beta 80 might be more suitable. Sherco 80 is very nice too. Not seen too many of the others. My vote is for the Beta 80 at 10 year old, and I'm a Sherco man.
  2. Just realised I lost my supporter logo. Must be over a year now. I think I remember getting an email a few weeks ago, but can't find it now. At the time I thought I'll have a look at that later. Go on, do a dumb **** a favour and send me the details please I've had a good look around and must be blind to it - where the hell do you become a supporter?
  3. Just look at this vid. Absolutely brilliant. Clicky Here
  4. Expand a little on what you've said. Why isn't Dougie an ambassador for the sport?
  5. Well done - stopped him looking a muppet If we all shut up about it nobody will notice eh I've had a few off Ebay - these lot were quite good, but have a search and there's loads of them about. Anodised bolts
  6. Eventually managed to get a go of a 200 Gasser, and I have to say I was surprisingly impressed. What I thought would kill it (4th gear hauling my butt up a nice hill) didn't. I think after 3 years of use my 290 Sherco is probably running at about 60-70% power having tried the 200. I probably wouldn't buy one for the reasons I've previously mentioned but I could see how many people of a more 'average' build could benefit from one. Enjoyed riding it. Apologies Morph
  7. Can you buy a 200 top end for these? Just wondering. Just out of interest, what age are you? No need to give it away if you're over 17
  8. I rode a trial 30 miles from home a few years ago. 30 minutes before start I realised I'd forgotten my helmet. As it takes me ages to find a helmet to fit my basketball head I knew I had no chance of borrowing one, so I raced home, got my helmet then raced back. On the way back the car started heating up, then overheated then bits of the turbo fell off and things got worse. I limped back to the trial with smoke out the back, and managed to start 20 minutes late and catch up. 3rd lap my GasGas 280 Pro blew up. Bit miffed and wanting to get home in daylight I threw the bike on the trailer and went home. On the way the car died completely. With no vehicles left running I called the AA. They were over an hour and I started to freeze in damp clothes, so being in a village I got changed in the car. When the AA bloke arrived I was almost completely naked in the car. Not sure he was convinced with my explanation.
  9. Britain thrives on sentimentality I'm not entirely sure its genuine here though. I was brought up on trials through the 70's and 80's and we could roll backwards in them days as long as we kept our feet up. I really don't know which rules I prefer. I can hop around to a certain extent, but the young 'uns slaughter me when it's tight. If it's rideable without hopping I tend to do better, but I still like to see the skill of balancing. I remember being amazed when I first saw what at the time we referred to as a Spanish Three, where you could STOP with your foot (or feet) down and still get through without a 5. Where's the skill in that we would say. I agree - good one for Rappers - unless of course he gets it wrong which inevitably he will for a large percentage - the opinion is so divided.
  10. It's a different sized jet. I can't remember what the standard is, maybe a 32. Strange I never had a problem with mine hot or cold. I think sometimes there may be a big advantage to a bigger leg behind the boot. A mate's 300 Gasser is really bad to start but NEVER gives me a problem just through that little bit extra behind the boot I think.
  11. I know from the email address that the list could not have been released by anyone but the acu. For instance the address I used would be acu@mydomain.com so that i can track where SPAM originates from. Nobody else would have it. Bit poor really. Not too bothered about the SPAM, but showing everybodys email address instead of masking them is all a bit amateur.
  12. Got to be a home project - Honda CRF 100F engine dropped in to a Gasser frame. Looks pretty flat, as would probably be expected.
  13. Cheers for the info.... Give us a clue how much?
  14. I agree, always go and have a look at it. Bikes tend to look a lot better in photos than in real life, especially when you take 20-30 photos and only have to pick the best few. I think unless you know who you're buying it off, and you would normally buy it based on what they tell you over the phone, then it's not worth the hassle.

    2004 290

I do feel for you Scoobie, but although "Our Perce" may say it in the no bullsh*t Yorkshire way :-), it is a shame to mess up a decent rim. Most of us with bikes over a year old have had the same problems with leaking spokes, but it really is worth the effort following the advice on here and getting the rim tape back in the groove. I really don't believe you can effectively seal the spokes, you have to get a new rim tape, clean up the rim, and get it back in and seated. As an emergency (stuck without a new rim tape) I've used a tube with a tubeless tyre, and not needed security bolts (rim locks). My spare wheel had a tube in for a while (lazy) and was used a fair bit (even more lazy). The tube never slipped in the slightest, and I know what a problem that used to be for tubed tyres. Not sure what to say for the best now. Probably leave the security bolts in, and fit a tubeless tyre with the tube. I've nipped a tube on the odd occasion, but if you shove a wee bit of air in the tube before you put the last of the tyre on, I think it's easier. just use the bare minimum of tyre lever overlapping the rim for the last part. Not sure if I grasped what you were saying about fixing tubeless punctures, but I have NEVER had an occasion where spokes started to leak part way through a trial, it only seem sto happen when you disturb the rim tape. It normally takes about 3 or 4 minutes to fix a tubeless puncture if you're ready for it. The kits are around
  16. I know what you mean Bilco, but I'm not convinced it's the right way. It may segregate the novices from the old hands even more? I think there has to be a bit of allowance for new members. I'm always up for a bit of banter/sarcasm/whatever, but I do try to lay off new members. Old hands are fair game and I'd hope people would feel they could knock seven shades of **** out of me without me getting all defensive If you're not sure whether people are old hands then maybe err on the side of caution. Of course with some people you get to learn that even as old hands they still don't like the banter, and you can decide from there whether you want to wind them up or not Not sure, but these are my thoughts
  17. I'd say just before midday. Sun in the South, shadows fairly long so not Summer. But look at that bloody big letter "i" driving up towards the bridge and a collision course with Slapshots golf ball.
  18. Mine's a 2004 Sherco - had it since new, over 3 years now. Don't want to sell it in case the next one isn't as reliable. I use around 75:1 full synthetic. Is the fuel filter mod the cutting of the plastic pipe inside the tank? If it is, I checked mine when I got it and it was already done - I think the VERY early 2004 ones had problems. Mine was November 2003 and already fixed. Can't help with the torque settings - I just nip 'em up. Maybe I should know. Not many things I can think of to watch - I drop my float bowl off after every trial, and clean out airbox/filter. Gearbox oil (450ml same as 03 ) every 6 or 8 trials - (some say more often but been fine). Watch when tightening the hex screws on airbox - they can strip out eventually. Standard footpegs can be a bit crap. Thin version of kickstart can be a bit weaker - I managed to snap mine eventually a few weeks ago. I did get a paper manual with mine, but I don't think I saw an electronic version. Very much the same as 03 anyway. Loads of stuff online. If you're after anything in particular reply and I'll have a look - I've downloaded most stuff I've ever seen and saved in a folder.
  19. I may well show how bad my memory is here, but I think I had most of the fantics over the years, including 50, 75, 125, 200, 240, 301 I think I remember the 200 being the standard kickstart. The one Hicken is on sounds too beefy for the 200 (156cc) and looks like it has the forward kickstart, so it'd make it a 240. Really brings back memories, even if a little vague It's the feeling! I remember riding my 240 first time out at a Hull trial in a really muddy railway siding. First time ever I'd had something that could REALLY pull 4th gear. They seemed to have so much power. I think the 240 was only 212cc. Would love to get hold of one again. I don't know about the Majesty, but I know there are some real experts on here, so no doubt you'll get a good reply for that one. The nearest I got was a TY175 which we bought a frame for. Don't remember where it came from, but it was a very tidy powder coated Majesty frame, which we worked all night to fit the donor parts in to before a Scarborough trial. Loved that bike too - the suspension mountings lower down the frame seemed to transform it. I traded it in for a horrible Montesa 200 for some reason - took me about 3 weeks for the regret to set in.
  20. Nah - unfortunately not, I was called out early on Sunday. Didn't get a reply actually from my email, but maybe I would have been OK to just turn up. Wasn't to be anyway, work taking over as usual at the moment Anybody else get chance? Any feedback? Did Colley/Wigg and co hang around? And.......if you did, what d'ya reckon to the 200's? I've got to admit I'm stubborn, I'd be very very unlikely to buy one, just because of the weight I'm dragging around, but be interesting to see what people think of them.
  21. Please don't think I'm slagging you with the skinny thing, from a lardy like me it's entirely jealousy Good call. Hadn't even heard the test day was on, and it's only three miles away. We'll be at the Tough One on Saturday - for anyone who hasn't been it's an amazing event, and this year it's even bigger. I don't think I've been to anything quite like it, where you can get so close to the action. First few hours in the light, and then the atmosphere sets in for real when things start to get dark and the bikes are flying round in almost pitch black. I'll drop a mail to Jude - I almost daren't say it, but I wouldn't mind trying a 300 as well I rode one in the Victory trial and loved it, but I've ridden the 250 and didn't get on as well (strangely the 250 seemed more of a beast to handle, but may be just down to tuning - the 300 had smooth grunt). I did love my 02 280 pro except for the reliability problems. Would be good to see first hand what the 200 is like, so although I'm working for some of Sunday I'm going to try to get up there.
  22. Oh, I can be pretty poor Maybe I should try one, but I reckon I'm gonna struggle to get someone to trust my lard ar5e on their beloved 200
  23. So do you reckon at 18st 7pounds riding the expert route, and the Novogars, and the Manx 2 day and the Lakes, I'd be better off on a 200? You could say at that weight I shouldn't be there, but for now, I am How many experts are there across the country? 500 maybe, dunno??? Do you reckon 80% of them are struggling with the extra 50cc/70cc/90cc??? I know you like little bikes, but you're skinny as a rake like your lad Horses for courses, and unless it's a flat field I definitely need more grunt than the 200.
  24. Managed to get a place on the one today, after a few people dropped out. Thanks Alison (ACU) for letting me know, and thanks to John and Peter for running it. Is that 3 years worth now, I didn't think of asking that? Cheers.
  25. Doh - just as nasty as my better half, you're all the same Not sure I'll ever get fit enough, but I'll shut up just in case
