  1. Fan would definitely come on during 2 hours of riding, unless you're from the arctic. To check the coolant level, take the rear mudguard off, and the tank. You can get the cap off the radiator by tapping it anticlockwise with a large flat screwdriver. Shine a torch down in to the rad, you should be able to see it. If not, top it up. Might have to use something to dip the level, it's an awkward angle. You can test the fan by attaching to a car battery. Check wires under tank all connected, particularly to fan and thermostat. Bit worried about your hole near the water pump. Not something I'm aware of. Have you got four allen bolts in the water pump housing - three around the outside and one in the middle towards the bottom? It's fairly common, although I don't particularly agree with it, to drill a hole in the flywheel cover to let water out, but nowt on the right hand side???
  2. Well, with a few entries unable to make it, the final number is under 60. Bit disappointing with the amount of work that goes in to it. Shouldn't be too many queues, we've almost got a section each. I've asked that the date be moved one week either way next year so we don't clash with the Hipwell. Ah well, those of us that will be there will have a damned good trial. Entry list will be on our web site tonight at some point. For those at the front, I ruined a rear Dunlop on Saturday doing 3rd and 4th gear burnouts on the slippier waterfalls, so I've knocked most of the grease of for ya I'm not riding this year so I've been able to scrub some sections up. Few more on Saturday and we're there.
  3. If you're OK at maths it's quite simple with ratios. I've seen lads on the way to trials who've got a litre or two left in their can, and want to fill it up. But because they can't do a bit of simple arithmetic, they're screwed. I know if I can only fit eight litres in my tin and I want around a 70:1 mix, then I have to divide 8 litres by 70 and thats the oil I need, so I'd go for about 115ml. Even more simply, I know I can just fill my can right up without worrying, and just divide however much the pump says by 70.
  4. I'm 6'2" and used to be quite good on a 20" up to the age of around 16 even, but 30 years on my lads bike feels like riding a roller skate with handlebars. I can't do anything on it. OK I've grown a little outwards, but not upwards. I'd definately go for 26". Who are you and what have you done with the real lastplacebrad? (I know I've opened myself up for some abuse so I thought I'd abuse someone else while I've got the chance )
  5. Not sure where you get 40:1 from? And I think it might be me just not understanding what you're saying (or what the manual is saying. Are they saying if you use mineral oil you need to use it at 3.5% (approx 30:1) And if you use synthetic oil, use it at 1.5% (approx 66:1) I'm not sure of the specifics with Beta, but I would say you can't go far wrong with synthetic mixed at around 66:1. My preference is nearer 75:1 or even 80:1 on the Sherco.
  6. Didn't get chance yet. Been busy. I'll try to get an updated list and get it done tomorrow night, but definitely by Saturday night, and that should be just about a final list by then. Last chance to get entries in tomorrow chaps. Get ringing around Wayne - get another 10 in front of you
  7. To be fair, you're supposed to leave the Girl Guide movement when you're 17! You can't knock the others for being "immature"
  8. Egham - about 15 miles from the last one. Fingers crossed boys.
  9. Come on Billy Craig - you saying those exercises are supposed to stop injury? Have you seen my physique? Sounds deadly I may well make the Billy Craig approved Fitness for Fatties video with your approval. I'll make a whole load of people feel a lot better about their condition Buy it for bloated family members at christmas. Cheer 'em right up. Now where's my leotard?
  10. Awwww you're the only one that looks at it Wayne I'll try and get something sorted out for later tonight - tomorrow latest. Last year was easier, Graham Evans was secretary, he worked in a bike shop so had nothing better to do than send emails to me which I could catch up on at night. It made things more transparent by adding riders to the rider list every night, but not workable this year. This year Jeans really organised, but works shifts and don't use computers, so passing info is more difficult. She read quickly through the list tonight, and sounded like there were about 15 or 20 riders after yours. At the moment that's in the order they came in, so they'll be reversed but you should have at least 15 or 20 in front of you. It's only Tuesday so hopefully more. I'm not riding ours this year, so every time I go to mark out I'm taking my bike and trying to scrub off the slippy ones. Thinking through the sections it's not going to be too bad for an early starter, and we've tried to put a few in there which will deteriorate to even things up a little Will let you know once I've got the list sent through to me and up on the web.
  11. Just spoke to the sec - up to around 60 entries so far, entries close this Sunday, well over half of the sections cleared out, and marked out. Another few days to do up there, and we're all set to go again. We should be able to get rider start times out either Monday or Tuesday, I'll put them on here and I'm fairly sure they'll be mailed out too, but programs probably be issued on the day. Anybody got any questions about anything, parking, start area, camping, fuelling etc, let me know. If i don't know I'll find out. If anybody would like to observe or help out, please let us know. More the merrier. Loads of good sections out there, most of them under 200 yards of your car, some of them you could just about sit in your car if that's what you want
  12. I think for cycle trials, but don't think for motorcycles yet.
  13. So they do exist? I thought I'd invented it in a drunken stupor two and a half years ago :-) If you search for Centrifugal Flywheel on google the first link is this one on TC, so I guess they're not the most common thing in the world. Centrifugal Flywheel

    Ty 80

Shouldn't the mixture screw be further out? Can't remember, thought it was nearer 3 turns? Have you tried a better plug, iridium or similar. We used to 'pop' plugs fairly often (every few weeks) until upgrading plugs which then lasted for over a year until we changed bikes.
  15. I love your island and therefore hate you for living there Jealousy is a terrible thing. Steve Fracy would be a good first port of call if you don't already know him. I know there are others over there, but Steve springs to mind, I'm sure he'll spot your post pretty soon. So what machine have you come back in to it with? Montesa in the blood or tried something else?
  16. I still come back to Hebo trousers every time, although I'm not a great fan of Hebo gloves as they seem to be almost disposable for me. If you buy Hebos, when they wear out keep hold of them. Chuck them in the cupboard. Then when your next set wear out, get 'em patched up. I drop mine in at a local seamstress and get a set of marking out/practice trousers every time I go through the ar*e on mine. Gloves I like the 661 mountain bike gloves (most cycle shops), stronger than Hebo. Jackets - I'm not convinced about proper trials jackets. I've still got a Hebo jacket I paid about
  17. Looks like you may be sorted other than the helmet question. If you want a cheap trials helmet I reckon you can't go wrong with the Xpeed (or is it Xspeed). Around 40 quid. Not the lightest, but not over heavy and certainly not ugly. At that price you can drop them in a bucket and blast them with a jetwash after every couple of trials. Probably not recommended by the manufacturer, but I have two of them that still smell fresh even with my fat head in them every other week
  18. And good to see you could manage it without 30 grand to bribe the local councillors. That's the way things get built round our neck of the woods. You either know someone in the council or you pay someone in the council. You got no money and no influence you've got no chance. Thanks for the rundown Dabster. I'd love to visit it some time, not particularly on my bike, just interested what you've got going there.
  19. What sort of setup is it likely to be? Is this in the middle of an urban area? Is it all manmade type stuff or all natural or a mix? Is it likely to be manned/policed/charged by the day or by annual membership etc? Did you buy the land/rented/owned by club member? Just nosey :-) Well done by the way, it's reassuring to hear these positive things for trials where councils are concerned. Always annoys me that the government and councils don't seem to recognise the need for sports and leisure facilities. Sometimes you feel like the whole country is turning in to a museum, stopping anybody moving forward in any way, so it's good to see the other side of it.
  20. Seems like this is a landmark project. I know you guys involved will be well ahead on this one, but if this is the reference project for the trials world, and concerns have been raised over noise, the 4rT's need to be policed heavily. Other bikes too obviously, but nobody can dispute the fact that the 4RT has raised the bar as far as noise pollution is concerned in trials.
  21. I could see these catching on. I think there's some bits of development that could be done to make them look that bit cooler for the kids, maybe just by filling in the big gap between battery and tank/seat unit? Maybe even chuck some kind of tool box in there? (Maybe a butty box - there I go thinking of my belly again), just fill it up with summat. Bash plate looks to be a little squared off, especially on the little one. Could they gain even more ground clearance here? I'm sort of splitting hairs because they do look damned good, and don't seem to have priced themselves far out of the market at 600 quid and 700 quid. Who'll be the first club to run an electric class? Maybe the ACU or similar should buy some of these and organise an event or two where riders can come along and use the 'pool' bikes? Maybe OSET should think about this sort of Championship if there was any interest in it. Charge entry fee to cover insurance/damages/limited expenses/awards? Be good to see a cycle trials rider hopping one on the back wheel. Just a thought
  22. I wont be riding as you know Im in the Maldives then And if I weren't, I still wouldn't ride it as it requires more skill than I have I have 'officated' at the last 2 and they are great events run by the best club I know of in this area. The venue is superb as you know so feel free to have a go Small addition. Thanks for the compliment Ian, but I also have to point out that the event is run by the Mid Wales Centre ACU, so although we tend to be the gobby ones taking the credit (or flak) most of the local clubs are involved in some way, marking out, marshalling, time-keeping, regs, documentation. We even get help from some kindly souls from the Midlands centre, not to mention the observers who come from all over the place. For instance, the Clive Club alone take responsibility for 10 of the sections on the day.
  23. Sorry Spud, only just spotted your question. It's a really hard one to answer. If you remember the very first section in the Forest Trophy (we normally cal lthe dragons teeth) up the waterfall. The section that the experts rode there would be close to the Novogar section. They start lower down the stream, then continue through the yellow route. Most of the sections are around the level of the expert/inter route in the Forest Trophy Trial as the Forest Trophy tends to be slightly easier than our usual club trials due to the length of it. I've been trying to persuade Mr Beardsall to have a ride, but not sure if he's up for it this year or not. He maybe doesn't ride often enough these days? Ian may give you a better idea of how he thinks you'd get on. I get the feeling from your banter that you seem to be of similar level, but looks like you may have been a fair bit ahead of him in the Forest Trophy. It certainly wouldn't be an easy day. It's always a tough one to define the level of a clubman championship. Our sections tend to be roughly the same level all the way round, with three or four tougher ones to take marks off the top boys. That can make it a hard day out if you're just below the level of the sections - takes its toll on the arms. However, I've ridden some Novogar rounds where I have struggled (on times really struggled) where some of the sections I couldn't see a way through for my level of rider, but I look at most of our sections as possible cleans if I have a good ride. Not sure if I've helped you too much but I'll stop rattling on and hope that Atomant can give you some guidance :-)
  24. So are you tinkling the ivories again in the Cann Office on the Saturday evening Wayne, or have you turned all professional. Think I'll be off first this year, but the Saturday night prep will probably be about the same. I'll be serving food from about 7 o'clock this year by the way :-)

    Machine Test

What d'ya reckon? No internals? Bike wasn't ready but wanted to launch it at a 2007 world round? 69kg now, 79kg when they put some metal inside the casings Seems strange not to start it if it's ready.
