There do seem to have been a lot of IRIS chain break stories on here. Too many to be a fluke. Too many for me to risk buying one.
What's the history with IRIS - where they from etc?
Any bikes come with IRIS chains fitted?

Reminds me of the old XT500 where you had to lean it to both sides, give it a couple of girlie kicks, get the silver disc in the window, say three hail mary's, put one hand on your head, give it ten monster kicks, then bump start the ****in thing

I would say that the cycle trials improves motor trials more than the other way.
The cycle trials brings the brilliant balance which we constantly see kids translate in to motorcycle trials very quickly. For the technical stuff it's brilliant.
The bits they're going to be missing are the throttle/clutch control, keeping the grip on the slippy stuff.
There's gotta be a fair bit of crossover both ways though I'd think.
-
Hey come on - that was a long time ago, and I wasn't actually convicted of that one
Don't try to deflect this on to me

Looks like they're still going pretty well.
Club Link Here (not too good in Firefox)
This was our old club. My dad used to arganise their youth trials along with people like Jimmy Graham, Derek Clarke (and David/Pete), Geoff Wright. Probably some others I forget.
Many a day spent guarding the bikes up Eston Hills
Luckily our pickup looked like it had already been wrecked so nobody ever touched that in the lane near the golf club.

If it's of any interest to you, the criminal justice system has the same blinkered view as you.
I merely changed my sexual activities based on the advice of some of the more regular posters on this forum - Perce, Ishy, to name but a few.
But did the police or the judge take that as defence - oh no, they still came down on the side of the sheep.

I think John's probably answered most people's questions, and I think I may have just answered my own. I thought the Xispa looked like it wouldn't stand up to the ACU rules, but having had a look around the other bikes, it does seem to be compliant.
The Sherco and Beta seem to go for the full cover over the front sprocket (which was what I noted was missing from the 'alleged' Sherco copy), whereas the Gasser and Honda have gone for the small black plastic guard which just stops fingers going in to the top side of the sprocket where they would be dragged round.

See - two tight Yorkshiremen replied at the same time. Jocks are just as tight as us but less likely to admit it
-
My dad went most of my youth days taking the tyres off my bike and putting them on his 250 Yam.
Think it depends what you're doing with it. The sort of sections my old man wanted to do he maintained that a good rider could do them on slicks. But maybe he was just making me feel better about it.
You're probably best off mentioning what area you're in though as you've not got it in your profile.
-
I think it's a great move. I've got to admit that although I've always liked four strokes since the days I used to pinch my Dad's Seeley, I'm not entirely on board with the current move to four stroke. The main reason behind it was environmental for emmissions, but the noise pollution is easily going to undo any of the hidden benefits of emmissions. It's also raised the price and complexity of a bike for the man in the street. The big benefit of trials is that it's one of the cheapest forms of motorsport.
So although I'm not a dedicated 4-stroke basher, (and I may even take the "can't beat 'em join 'em" approach within the next few years), I'd love Dougie to revive the faith in the future of 2 stroke trials, and maybe even show people that the simple old 2 stroke still has the upper hand.
-
I'm sure it's not the way Dougie's thinking, but for the rest of us, wouldn't it be great if he can stick one on Honda by even making a dent in their championship hopes.
He's now the perfect underdog. I'd be chuffed to bits to see him take his 100th win, and it'd be amazing to see him do any more than that.
What a scoop for Beta if he can do what he couldn't manage on the Honda.
It's brought a lot of excitement back in to it for me - looking forward to 2008 - Go Dougie!

I'll let someone more knowlegeable answer your question correctly rather than me guessing. One or two of your quotes I've thought about before regarding whether our bikes are legal from the start. Look at the new Xispa and see if it fits in with rule 16. A guard must be fitted to the gearbox sprocket:
Xispa link
Not even looked at the others but this is one little difference I noticed from the Sherco - the guard is missing. On the Sherco it's an extension of the flywheel cover.
Any others?
The rear chain guard is barely adequate with:
"The guard must be constructed in such a manner that under no circumstances can the rider or passenger come in to accidental contact with the transmission parts."

Managed to remote desktop to my machine - this must be you then
Looks like it's the only one of you. Wecould do with getting Jack to be more trigger happy eh
The original is about 4Mb - I'll sort you a link some time soon to download it.
-
Always fancied it and live 20 miles away - I work in Chester, we could practice at lunch time , but I think you might find I'm a little too large I'm a jot over 14 stone (in a world where one jot is equal to 5 stone )
I have a sherco 290 which I would like to put a chair on next time I get a new bike. Maybe if we welded our two bikes together the new Sherco 580 would be about right for us
Get a woman in it - take it up to Bridge Street on a Saturday morning and advertise for a Hollyoaks babe to man your chair
Good luck in your hunt!

Just be wary when Atom says "It's simple".
He introduced my to 'Land Down Under' a few years ago. This has caused me to visit several mental institutions over the years and I still haven't managed a decent web site from it due to being thick as pig shlt.
-
yep - that was me. Good lookin' devil eh?
The young 'un with the camera was Jack Parker . Luckily I guessed he might be there and took my laptop along. He usually gives me his memory stick to copy across. I've got them, but not got it at home tonight. Will try to get time to get them all on our site as soon as poss. I'll drop a note on here when they're done.
-
Good stuff - say hello next time - I'm the chubby bald one falling off on the red route
I'll try to get the fixtures up on the web page in the next few weeks. There's a mailing list you can subscribe to on the front page of our site if you're interested. No SPAM, I just send out the odd update before a trial or if there's something noteworthy going on. Probably 10-12 emails a year.

Well no, but I think he likes the fashionable feeling of pretending he is. Women like gay blokes

Apologies - I've been battling with them this week. Server getting upgraded next week and it looks like they're doing some preparatary work....and they've made a right 4rse of it.
Results are on there now anyway with a link on the front page.
In fact, here they are anyway.
How did you find the trial? Quite hard for the yellows I think?
I don't actually think the expert route was that hard, but for some reason i fell off more on Sunday than I have in the past 3 years, and the results showed it. I often make a right mess of sections but on Sunday I actually let go of the bike about 4 times Nothing bad, but was rolling all over the place

I suppose my job is a bit of a rat race. Money is comfortable but nothing special.
One of the lads who used to work in my team recently made a big career decision bearing in mind he'd done computer networks for around 25 years. I'm permanent, he was a contractor, so he was actually on not bad money at all. A mate of his ran a catering vehicle and was moving to something bigger.
One day Eddy came in and said he was quitting and buying a burger van. Thought he was joking at first, but it became obvious he was serious. Sure enough, within 6 weeks he had quit, and bought the business including 28ft van and Landrover Discovery to tow it.
We still speak fairly often and he's loving life.
He's out of the house at 6am, sets up his van in Preston docks, and is out of there by 2.30pm. Home to pick the kids up. All of his food is delivered to the van while he's there, he's literally got nothing to do until the following day when he gets home.
Works the odd weekend but that is pure pocket money.
More money than before even employing a couple of staff and really enjoying himself. Never too late to change.

Very common, bad design, the 2002 was bad, then I remember looking at the amazing fix on the 2003 where they got a mallet and dented the silencer in. Seems to have stayed the same since.
It still rubbed, surprise surprise.
I used to stick carbon sheets up the inside, and replace when they got rubbed through. As well as making sure the silencer wasn't bent in against the wheel. Did the trick mostly.
About time GasGas did something with it, like copy the Sherco.

Sort of strange that just when a man gets to the point where he can afford most things he wants, he decides that he would have been happy without that spending ability
Hind sight is a wonderful thing eh

Give us a clue how old you are Andy.
If you were a tree, how many rings would you have had by now?
WHAT?
WHAT?
