  1. Ah, my bad Tony. Are you the Tony that sometimes travels with Kev? Such modesty "just a toolmaker". We are not worthy . Seriously I hold toolmakers in very high esteem. Downmarket Sherco. It's an idea. But what happened to "what wins on Sunday. sells on Monday"? Looking forward the call Pete, though I beat you to it last night
  2. There I was thinking you were Tony the copper. Your knowledge of casting and machining is impressive if you are Tony the copper.
  3. It's an interesting point. I suppose, if Yamaha wanted, they could license the motor off to some Chinese mob like the Japs have with other non-current designs. But would the volumes justify it? Would the Chinese be able to make a profit even with a low volume production motor?
  4. IMO that's what happens when you get too many young and relatively inexperienced geeks/engineers in the same room together. With the moderating voice of a more experienced mentor things become more reasonable. Ian, I concur. I've done the whole hi-tech thing. Nowadays I'm more interested in the process I'm measuring and controlling. I'm quite happy to spec something to do the job and, if possible, buy something off-the-shelf. And I want it to be simple and easy to use.
  5. The TXT and EC use two totally different motors. Short answer: yes. Longer answer: it would take so much work that it wouldn't be worth it. For example, the gearbox ratios are matched to the power output of the EC motor. Change the motor characteristics too much and you'd need to regear the bike. A few years ago I saw a pic of a bike Cyril du Pres (sp?) was using in extreme enduros and it had a trials exhaust, not an expansion chamber. *edit* A good tuner should be able to soften the power for you (even an extra base gasket will help) but to get the power the same as a trials bike isn't worth it (IMO).
  6. No, the guy I was thinking of was a guy called (I think) Maarten Van Buuren otherwise known as the "frying dutchman".
  7. I'd hope that by now they'd found a new supplier for their stators. If they're still using the same stock I'd expect the same trouble. Fires? Well one (Rev3) is enough to establish a notoriety. Remember that poor Dutch bloke in the SSDT in the late '70's? He singlehandedly gave Montesa 348's the same reputation.
  8. Become friendly with an electrician and a fireman
  9. Firstly, go back a few posts, your comment was crass. Next avoid name calling, you are stooping to levels I have never before seen on these forums. Thirdly, involving the colonies was an extremely dumb thing to do. All you have done is expose yourself as a pompous fart.
  10. Thanks Perce. Always a treat watching vids like that.
  11. Heck Copey, you've already been burdened with one retired racer who had some sucess (Kevin Schwantz), why two?
  12. Dabster, firstly I used the death toll in greater Europe (including Russia), but yes 60 million in the greater scheme of things is closer to the truth. Secondly, your statement was crass and appropriate for only social scientists or politicians. Thirdly, I certainly do not have your or Slapshots encyclopedic knowledge of the TDF, nor do I claim to. For this reason I haven't commented on the event. Indeed I have enjoyed learning for the two of you. Now get over it and accept your rebuke like a man and, in future, be a little more careful in your choice of words. You have been chastised for this in the past, I would have thought that an intelligent man like you would have learned his lesson by now.
  13. Try telling that to the 20 odd million that perished in WWII.
  14. Tsk, you didn't keep a record when you pulled the motor apart. Shame on you. I have done it in the past and it's a right bugger. Try asking Jared Bates at South West Montesa.
  15. Nowadays in favour with the cosa nostra.
  16. CNN is reporting that Lance Armstrong in in danger of being stripped of his Tour de France "Mr Clean" title.. ***In a random check for banned substances, 3 were found in Armstrong's hotel room. The 3 substances banned by the French, that were found in his hotel room were as follows: (1) Toothpaste (2) Deodorant (3) Soap The French officials also found several other items which they had never seen before including a backbone...

    Xr200

No. They're as common as muck. I don't know how many were bought into the UK though. They are an excellent motorcycle. A real giant killer. In really snotty, technical enduros you'd always find the XR200's at the head of the field, ahead of the KTM's, Huskys and other exotica. The reason was they had a nice docile power delivery. Just what you need in tough events.
  18. Copey, you disappoint. Could do better
  19. With the outfits they wear I'd say it was on view to all..oh you said pianist
  20. Draw your own conclusions: Raga to music(?) I have no doubt that Copey will have something (funny) to say about it.
  21. Billie, you're taking this far too seriously. It's a new cricket fielding position.
  22. Oh and be sure to wear a hardhat. When it eventually comes off it does so with an almighty bang and everybody runs for cover.
  23. You'll have to get rid of Brown (Gordon) first Well done to Wiggy and Jonathan.
