  1. So that's what happened to the Kays. I first became aware of them though Classic Bike and their hand build MV's (real MV's not the Cagiva MV's). Lovely job.
  2. Marky boy, WTF have you been? Haven't seen you post for ages.
  3. Oh you don't need to cut the exhaust. Just get some industrial lagging material (used to be asbestos cloth) and wrap it, tightly, around the exhaust.
  4. Ah, that would explain it. I thought it was Castrol R
  5. Also try putting little bits of rubber between the fins on the barrel and head. A great deal of the noise from an air hammer is the fins resonating. Stuff wads of foam in the airbox (yeah, I know it kills the performance but induction noise is also a big problem on any large 2S). Try lagging the exhaust. Again a great source of noise is the expansion chamber resonating. By lagging it you will damp the noise level.
  6. Forget your prozac Biff?
  7. Speaking as somebody who has eaten gazelle, Zippy you have no idea...
  8. Great bit of detective work David. Well done. Poor show by Gasser though.

    Big Log

And I though Ish was describing his first bowel movement of the day...
  10. I stand corrected in this matter. However I stand by my assertion that Honda have never left the sport since '74 and have had trials bikes in production since '74 (see thread in 'general").
  11. Nah, they've always had a trials bike in production. It may have been a piece of ****e (e.g. the Relex) or it may only have been available in Japan (e.g. the TLM260) but they've never left the market.
  12. Oh buggerit. We've run out of popcorn.
  13. They kind of did and didn't Dabster. After Eddy & Steve went off the boil they didn't have any up and coming riders so they just lowered their involvement. They didn't chuck it in. Just went low key. That's my take on it but they've had bikes of various abilities in production since '74.
  14. I hope they don't Martin. It's bad enought that Honda (appear to) have lost interest. To lose Montesa would be a dreadful blow. I wondered about it last night after reading that thread, could the Permayer family ressurect the brand in its pure form should Honda decide to cut ties? BTW great avatar. I remember the pic in (I think) "Popular Cycling".
  15. Following the sometimes acrimonious thread regarding a new Mont model, what is clear is that Honda seem to have lost interest in trials. It's not a certainty but they don't seem to be bothered about their sales presently. So Honda seem to be withdrawing and Yamaha have gone. In the space of a few months we've lost the longest lasting manufacturers in the sport (both entered the sport in '74. That's 35 years of continuous involvement). Is this a sign of the (financial) times or have they just lost interest? Sad times indeed. Discuss..
  16. Nah, Brian gave it to me. Farewell gift I suppose. Ben could be a bit brutal. Neither Peter nor myself was hard on bikes (actually Peter & Chrome barely rode it). You pleased to be in CT? Still with PPC?
  17. Very sad, my condolances to family and friends.
  18. Every time I got to the end of a page the thread had grown by a page! Honda lose interest in trials? It certainly seems that way at the moment. Strange that with Yamaha, they've been involved in the sport for nearly 40 years. It'll be really sad if Mont (although they now exist as only a name) go with Honda if they do withdraw from trials.
  19. Ian, I'm afraid the "John Fulcher Memorial" cup is sitting in my living room. Ian, you still out at Picketberg?
  20. Take the carb off the bike, remove float bowl, drain, clean and blow through jets. Re-assemble. Generally makes sure that the bike doesn't hiccup when you need a bit of grunt.
  21. I thought the tubes were a good idea. They weren't as vulnerable as you'd think and they kept a lot of crud off the chain BUT they did accumulate crud inside them and cleaning that out was a nightmare.
  22. Dave, that chain tensioner came std with the later 349's it was only the first model (this one) that didn't have it.
  23. To be pedantic the 349 was introduced in '80. Chain tubes: AFAIK some mob in Spain still supply. Others will be more forthcoming with details. If it's piston slap, don't fret. The Monts rattled something horrible (so did the sherpas).
