How could I miss this post?
Ian, it's my old bike. I bought it new in '83. Kept it for 3 years and sold it to Peter Harrigan who sold it to Chrome Hunter. It was the only 349 of that model in the country. Somebody has obviously changed the mudguards.
Ian, check out the boot between the airbox and the carb. When I sold it it was split and I couldn't find a replacement.

Oh well. Can't win 'em all.

Member # 10,000 looks way nicer than member # 7,500

Resale value is a whole different ball game. As is condition. But neither you nor me will be able to outride those bikes if they're both in good condition.
-
Gets to hide his own easter eggs does he?
-
I doubt that I could outride either of those bikes. But that's not saying much.

Welcome Technomix. If you're a native Japanese I congratulate you on your excellent use of the English language. It's a hell of lot better than my Japanese

As a beginner that isn't what you should be worried about. You've still got to learn the basics.
Not really true by the way. Both were available at the time when hopping was becoming popular but there is no way you can compare with modern tackle. Even the difference between a TXT and a Pro is substantial if you're hopping.

Genetically, it's a pretty smart idea. Did you know when the alpha male of a lion pride is deposed his successor goes around killing all the cubs? Reason is to eradicate competition to HIS genes. Ditto, looking out for number one is actually to give your own genes the best possible chance of success.
So you could say that predjudice is, in evolutionary terms, a pretty good tactic. However, it can backfire. Apartheid was a prime example.

A few months ago somebody posted a link to a video of the Swedish round of the 1975 world championship. I can't find it. Can anybody with better search skills than mine please repost it. Thanks.

voleurz, there are some very nasty people indeed out there. People whose sole intention is to destroy our society, our belief system (Mamon??) and our way of life. This is in spite of many of them being raised and nurtured within the very society they crave to destroy. This is fact.
Whether the invasions of Iraq and Afganistan were, in the long term, a wise decision is an entirely different point. But then wounded peoples, like wounded animals, don't sit back calmly and ruminate on the long term consequences. Their immediate desire is for revenge.

Hey Pete/Geordabroad
The story to which I was referring was the same one as you (Thierry Michaud). Stu Essininnnngh (sp?) also spoke highly of the scene but that was in HK. I did a bit of surfing t'other night and found some vids. Whether they were in the peoples republic, the republic or HK I don't know but the standard was a long way off. Go to youtube and search for "moto trials china".
-
Interesting snippet: although the idea makes (engineering) sense, every trials manufacturer that has swapped the tank and the airbox has gorn belly up shortly after its introduction.
-
Regarding the clutch question, I owned a brace of 'em and you can either adjust the cluth to grab in low gears or slip in high gears. There's (AFAIK) any middle point. I went for the clutch slipping in the high gears 'cause it's not really that bad during road work.
-
Marty, sorry to hijack your thread. Geordabroad, are you really in China? If so did you take the bike with you? Have you had a look at the trials scene there? I've heard some interesting stories.
-
And you impressed your friends with your expanded vocabulary

Just had a think about it Dabster. The relationship could well work in Yamahas favour. It was no secret that the Yamaha WEC team was never a very happy one and now they are gone from the championship there's a void. Gasser on the otherhand are alway struggling financially and have distinguished themselves as the nursery of that championship (Nambotin, Guerrara & Gilluame). So Gasser pick the riders and get to second or third in the championship and then Yamaha poach the rider.
Just a thought. Use it, don't use it.
-
The big'un's (450 & 550) use Gasser motors Dabster. This is a stop gap to get into the 250 4T market. Gasser have already used Suzuki motors in the smaller, more recent Pamparas. I don't see it as a Honda/Mont tie up. Just a temporary arrangement.
-
Kinda Tony. Gasser realized that need to get into the 250 4T market sharpish but also realised that to produce that engine and that it should be reliable would take at least 3 years. So they went with the Yammie motor. The decision was made by gauging feedback on a forum.
Dabster (thanks MotoMerlin for the stolen bandwidth ):

Ya reckon It's even worse if you're white, male and need a job! Best trials riding in SA is the western cape. The rest IMO tends to be quite similar. Durbs excepted. Off road it's a different story. In the Western Cape you can have an enormous variety of terrein (Scottish Moors to desert) in 200 k's driving. I'm not exagerating here Bigfoot will bear me out.
Dunno 'bout North Carolina, NZ is great riding but very slippery in winter. Summer is brill. Just my SA side coming out.

Thanks guys. I haven't such a good laugh in ages.

Jakes card wasn't much better. I gave up watching the championship class because it was a crash 'n burn fest (best ride I saw was a 3). The other classes were far more interesting.
-
Ah, c'mon. Please Copey.
Hey Tony, I watched Jake & Warren repeated smash themselves against some very big rocks yesterday at the aus nats. Warrens card after the first ten sections had 10 fives!
