    Sparks Plugs

Jetset, the BPR 5ES plugs are better than the champion for rev3,s, stick it in and stay with it
  2. I'll have a stab at Andy Tinsley or Pete himself

    Smoky Beta

Doogle, bet your plug is white with 56ml hope this helps Fuel ratios
  4. I have used WD40 for ages now, works really well, not much sticks to it and the chain keeps much cleaner. It is also easier to clean after washing the bike, most of the muck comes off when washed and any oil that wont gets a quick brush with Gunk and hosed off. Chain always looks like new the posts about chains snapping are about the Iris types which seem to be snapping even from new. Fit a renthal and forget about it untill you eventually run out of adjustment.

    Forks Go Bang!

Sounds like the damping rod is not attached to the fork cap, may have come undone, just take the cap off and see if its on the end ok
  6. Ah Chriss, bust the fan sender after chucking the bike over me head on section 6 did nt realise it was bust untill 4 miles up the road and it spewed all the water out. Very slow ride back to the quarry holding the wires with my left hand to keep it going.
  7. Really wish my bike hadnt broke down now looking at the results, thought I was doing terrible after the first 10 sections but most were struggling by the look of it and I wasnt last for once. Steve making it look easy as usual, but even section 5 took 2 big prods off him and fives and threes for everyone else. Rode with Dean Basford again and in my book his was the best result of the day in the Expert class, sure he will be well pleased with the result. Section 8 at Grove was horendous, jump from nothing through 2 trees with a big drop if you did nt make it,glad I only had to have a go once.
  8. Sounds like its flooding when you try and start it, was the plug wet? The fuel coming out of the header is a sign of flooding, next time you try and start it switch the fuel tap on to let the carb fill and then knock it off, try kicking it over then. If its been stood all sorts of muck may be coating the carb (old oil/petrol etc) so I would give the carb and jets a bloody good clean before trying anything else. It should still start with the air screw in or out so I would nt worry too much about that. Most Betas run rich and the black stuff in the tail pipe is pretty normal, most of the time the bikes are run on next to no throttle so they build up the muck quite quickly. Dirty carb is probably the problem, easy job to clean, best with an air line but if not a powerfull carb cleaner spray.

Holy ****!!!!! Seans got another ride in BSB, wonder how long till he throws a wobbly and gets himself booted out of the PR Branson Honda team? 3 rounds I recon
  11. The 4 screws are holding the flywheel weight onto the flywheel. Should nt need to remove the weight to start with or never at all, depends how you want the bike to ride. Weight off bike is very zippy and poor in the mud. That is the flywheel nut you are about to unlock, the woodruff will be visible once the wheel is off but you will need a flywheel puller to get the flywheel off the crank. Hope you know where all the bits go back together If you do remove the weight you will need an impact driver to get those buggers off or you will round them, and if you want to take the stator out to clean everything up behind it (casing) make sure you mark where it fits before it comes out. This position sets the timing for the bike. Lampkins site may show the correct timing position for the stator worth checking whilst your at it Timing/Stator position for 2000 rev 3 Doesnt say if this is for the 270 though on the site
  12. Nice one cg, looks very tidy. May be worth getting some plastic bars ends asap, will save the grips from the offs in the next few weeks. Slightly loosen the bolts holding the front brake and clutch levers to the bars just enough so they will give instead of breaking a lever. Have fun
  13. I think they should have their own forum, bless um,
  14. Way I see it with the Police is if you can prove you have a tax disc on the bike, the bikes registered and insured and has the number plate on in any form you should be ok. Probably get a bit of a lecture but you should be on your way
  15. After loosing 3 tax discs in events I had it laminated and have stuck it to the back of the front number board, not exactly in the right place but its on the bike if they ever want to see it. Never gets covered in mud and has been there for 6 odd months and stood up too the pressure washer without coming off or misting up.
  16. Glyph, some info here on the FAQ bit, hope it helps 2000 Rev 3
  17. Just about avoided the old bill at the Trial yesterday, police clocked me at a junction with another rider and started to do a U turn to pull us over. Lucky for me I had the presence of mind to pull the other riders choke on and stall his bike leaving him to explain to plod where his tax disc was Did see them though in the town and they did pull a lot of riders over later in the day, and from what I heard they used the computer to cheque for registration, tax and insurance details. I have to admit I have ridden without being legal at road trials in the past and know many do at these events as per yesterday. I decided after crashing with another rider at the Wallace years ago that I was going to make sure the bike and myself were insured, taxed and held a full bike licence for the events. Had I been stopped yesterday I may have got off with a warning due to an illegal number plate, horn etc but I bet quite a few had the book thrown at them. Always seems not much of a risk not having a licence, tax insurance etc until something goes badly wrong, I hit the rider on the road at a junction and almost pushed him in front of a car. Never ever thought something like that could happen at a trial but sometimes it will. What if a child suddenly ran across the road infront of you and you hit them? if it can happen in a car, it can happen on your bike, just think of the consequences afterwards let alone the guilt. The full legal thing will be a nightmare for the modern trials bike, just cant see how a full sized number plate with all its weight will ever fit onto the tiny mudguards we all run. Tyre pressures as well? I do recall the Police stopping riders at the Colmore years ago for low tyre pressures there
  18. Scroll down this page Sean, its near the bottom of the page Tyre Lube
  19. Sean, you may have to buy the bloody great tub mate, I ve never found it in small containers but there is an upside with the 5kg,you wont run out untill 2057

    Beta 4-stroke

Kinell, saw one today at the trial, really quiet and as you said started easy every time and gripped like ****, keep those reports coming, sounds like you had a great day
  21. Glyph, you have nt got any valves to worry about on the Rev3 hitting the piston, nipping up is usually the term for seizing the bike up to varying degrees, sometimes it can be easily repaired depending on how bad the barrell has been damaged, piston rings, bearings etc. Try all the other changes first like new fuel mix, spark plug etc and if it is still not running or running badly you will have to take it to dealer to get sorted. The clutch oil will have had no effect to the running of the bike at all, new or old
  22. John Cowley had one today at the Midland Centre Group Trial, bike is incredibly quiet compared to the Monts and seemed plenty powerfull enough for all the slippy root climbs today. Followed him for the last group and no problems starting at all and it was gripping like hell everywhere (Although most of that is Johns throttle control to be fair) John did say it would nt pull fourth gear like his Rev3 and 4th was the order of the day at the trial, but I am sure he would have been in the top five or even won it. Very impressive bike and seems very refined, almost like its been out years, hopefully my next buy mid season, I think Mont have gone the wrong way with the 4rt and the Beta will prove to be the best 4 stroke in the end.
  23. Glyph, I would be amazed if you haven't nipped it up mate, the fuel probably did nt mix very well in the tank and has leaned out the motor. The flames may be from burning all the ***** in the exhaust system plus setting fire to the silencer packing. The loss in power does sound like its nipped up though, take the plug out and see what it looks like. If its white or looks like its been corroded (missing metal) it has been running way to hot. Repack the silencer, stick new fuel/oil mix in, change the plug and see what happens. Try 75-80mil of good 2 stroke oil (Repsol,TTS etc) with 5 litres of super unleaded. Hope it hasnt done any damage and it runs ok next time
