As Mick says dump whats in there out now and fill with new, ATF is a cheap option for the Grearbox and I'm pretty sure you need to put in 500ml for a fill. There is a sight glass on the casing to check if your running low at any time. Change the gear oil every 6-8 rides out depending on how long its been run for.
Coolant again, fill to top and let it blow the rest out, it will find its level. There should be posts in the Beta section for the type of coolant you need to use as the casing can be prone to wear with time.

Do it every time you ride to be sure, as said before dirt restricts the air flow and mess the running. I always use PJ1 oil filter cleaner and PJ1 filter oil, dont put to much on though
-
If youve got a fancy tank breather take it off, might just be blocked and stopping fuel going into carb, if thats ok check the carb itself is flowing fuel and the floats arnt stuck, all this though assuming you have a spark. Sometimes its tricky to see a spark in the day, best way is to try at night it will soon show.

Slow action throttle should help, check the timing marks on both bikes and see if they are in the same place, is the gearing the same on both 270's? . I had a go on the Surgeons 08 when he got it and it was well frisky

I think having a reserve price costs more in listing fees so pulling it early is an option but doesnt instill much confidence in a seller on Ebay as you know it will happen. Shill bidding is terrible now on Ebay as the user ID's are not shown anymore and as Pete says the feedback system is well unfair
I see Andy is looking to sponsor a Trials related event this year by TC how about a b0llock kicking contest to sort this one out with video and pics

Cant beleive the Surgeon or Dad havent picked up on this post yet????? before they do though I,ve not bought the bike lads, Ive just got it running for a mate, I struggle fairish riding a modern one let alone an oldie
Thanks Spinny, nice link will pass it on

Andy can you add a handbag emoticon to the site
-
Thanks lads great links ah and thanks Gizza for the pm info
-
Anyone know where the air filter can be bought? mice have had a field day with it
-
Thanks Lee , yer forgot to say thats well weired kicking forward
-
As Ive said many times on here before Gassers are my favourite bikes, Ive had loads last one was the 01 Pro, had it 5 weeks after 2 ignitions failed and the clutch never bought one since. In my view you do have to keep on top of them, chuck parts regulary at them and make sure everything is maintained well.
-
Clarkey that fall must have been worse then you thought, you were concuss mate, you polished off the 420 by mid morning and had to clean up with the bottle of Mouton-Rothschild you had been saving for the drive home
-
I wouldnt use an Iris if someone was giving me them free every ride, saw plenty of big offs a while back from bust Iris's. I remember the Surgeon making at 20 foot climb topped by a 4 foot rock step and the Iris snapping at the top, crash was terrible, cut arm and he even dropped his Foie Gras on the way down it was that bad.
-
Copey's advice is the best way to go, **** the bike every time, theres nothing more expensive than a bad injury and time off work against trying not to scratch your bike or save a set of bars. If shes not going where it should get off and throw the bugger out the way. Young Bazzer had a habbit of saving his bike rather than himself and paid dearly for it

Got the bike over to my place this afternoon and cleaned out the tank/carb air box etc and she fired up second kick after a 20 month lay off . Couldnt beleive how smooth the motor was for such an old bike, cable clutch would take abit of getting used to after hydraulic but all in all a nice tidy bike.
The air filter has seen better days, does anyone know where a new one could be bought? the gearbox oil may have been changed sometime in the 90's so in need of some new stuff asap, does anyone know what oil and how much?
Many thanks

Lee/Mark, thanks for the posts, he was looking for 500 quid so think that sounds about right from what you,ve said hes already had an offer for that just wanted to check 500 wasnt over the top rather than cheap
-
Mates got one, had it from new 1990 he thinks, not done a huge amount bit tatty but runs nice he says, anyone got an idea of what it might be worth as we havent got any idea at all? hes looking to upgrade to more modern
Thanks
PS, Clarkey, serious comments please
-
Thats a great result, well done Ralph got to be the best answer to a post Ive seen on TC and theres been plenty of good ones
-
been using WD40 for years now, not gone through any more chains and it seems to keep the mud and dirt off whilst riding, you have to do it every time out but its no problem
-
Beat me to it Clarkey
The Surgeon is right, his bike spills more fuel than it drinks and never attempt a nasty rock section after Clarkey as it gonna be slippy once the Beta's been through. Kill switch is as it states, kills it, usually at awkward times in the middle of no-where and the dreaded water pump self destruct is still available on some 08's as the Goat will confirm.
Seen an Evo at the Yennards 250 I think, very nice bike and very small and didnt notice petrol following it and look what young Wiggy did on one yesterday . Not had a go on one yet as every 2 stroke I try feels so different to the Mont but I bet it rides well
There is a rumour the Surgeon is moving up in the world and looking at 4rt's for added grip in the ice?
-
Not used it in the Mont, no need the 4rt will run on anything, how did the oil filter change go in the end mate?
-
ACU cant even check if youve got a valid licence which is much more important, chances of anyone dipping a tank is very remote, AvGas 50/50 is the B*****ks for most 2 stroke Trials bikes from what Ive seen
