  1. Companies like Villiers Services or Saftek will fit thicker lining material to bare shoes if you request it over the standard lining thickness.
  2. I have mounted the shoes up on the brake plate as already suggested, but rather than packing the shoes out I use a cable tie hooked onto the brake arm back to the torque arm bolt. This way I can adjust pretty much exactly how far I want the cam to turn to get the right O/D Works well, abut 250 rpm and a sharp tool, very light feed.
  3. Cheers, it looks like I could make a mess of either of those ! Seriously they both look good and contain all the info I would need to get across. Another task to wade through, but hopefully be worth it !
  4. I'm in the process of starting a new club, Ashwicke Classic Trials Club. I'd like to set up a basic website to run club news and results etc,as not everyone is happy with Facebook or Twitter etc. So my question is, has anyone on here done a similar thing ? I'm not brilliant at computer stuff so don't want anything fancy, also the club will have no money, after each event all the proceeds will go to a charity chosen by the landowner. So cheap is good. The first event will be on the 28th of August at Ayford farm near Marshfield, aimed mainly at Pre65's and Twinshocks. No classes for mono's or aircooled mono's.
  5. That Italjet is not very common, you are right its not Honda / Yam powered its their own. I don't think the spares situation would be very good here.Shame really, they are a nice looking bike, would have liked one myself... Someone on here will know all about them I'm sure. Good luck,it will make a good project.
  6. My son has just bought a bike where the V5 and sorn form were sent off together,DVLA saying its not registered in his name, why is he applying for sorn ? I've recently bought and sorned a car for my daughter, sent off V5 and sorn form in the same envelope, new V5 came back, still showing as untaxed on DVLA website. Opened a case with them, waiting to hear back. Normally I've had really good service,I recently registered an old Chevy pickup and got logbook and number back in less than a week, all good. Different people ,different office ?

  8. Hope to be there with the two Steve's this year. Thankfully this year the SWCTA Dartmoor Two Day does not clash so I'm aiming to do that as well. What with the Somerton Two day British bike trial, the Stratford Sam Cooper and the Golden Valley Eurocup there are some excellent events to look forward to,long may it continue !
  9. I've seen Pete Kirby clutches withstand massive abuse on sidecar outfits on the Miller rounds,so I have no doubt they are tough, but are they all belt drive or does he do chain as well ? The clutch on my C15 slips in higher gears, but I've only ridden one trial on it so far and not had time to rip it to bits and see whats what. Not bothered by having a featherlight clutch as I don't use it much, just want something reliable. Will I have to empty some jam jars of old pound coins...

    Venhill Cables

They do two types, one for front brake/ clutch, plus a thinner one for throttle, valve lifter or advance/ retard. I try to keep them in stock all the time, you can make the cables to the exact length you want to follow whatever route you want. They work well.I also use a mini blow torch to solder the ends on as I can see when the solder has flowed properly through the nipple.I know most folk use a solder pot,and recommend it,but the torch works for me.

    Venhill Cables

Yep, they are bloody good - I make all my cables from these, get them from BVM.
  12. I rarely clean my bikes,so cheers for answering my question !
  13. Having replaced that loop on a 250 Majesty I can only say you aren't going to lose much weight. Not all of them had it removed,I don't think its a particularly good idea. Be interesting to weigh the mud that sticks to a bike during a wet trial,I've even sprayed the underside of the mudguards with non stick spray which worked quite well. If you are as old and lardy as me its probably better to lose weight yourself than trim stuff off the bike...
  14. They do put on a good event, I'm looking forward to the 2 day British bike trial on the 10th and 11th of June - always an excellent weekend. I couldn't make it to Weatherhayes,I'd promised to do other things,or I'd have been there on the BSA C15 !
  15. You want to try riding a road based trial like the Golden Valley March Hare on thin trials gloves when its minus whatever and pi--ing down with rain or snow.Road gauntlets are the answer over trials gloves for the road bits, then they come off for sections along with the thin gloves if your blood is going around...
  16. As soon as its warm enough that I can feel my fingers the gloves come off,I don't get blisters and hate wearing gloves. Gauntlets for the road bits then off they come !
  17. Exactly, had a brand new 241 Clubman - the mono with drums in 1987. Brakes were fine when dry, rubbish in the wet... Big end went on that after 18 months.Have never had any luck with new bikes, bought a well abused Yam TY250R after that - couldn't break it !
  18. Yep, I had a new TLR250 in Feb 86,that had very good brakes, pretty good when wet too. Shame the engine fell apart after 22 trials...
  19. Yes, that was my bike. You should have no problem in retaining the original number as its quite clear in the original registration records as you can see in the picture.I didn't get any farther than taking this photo as I had/have too many other projects on the go...
  20. Mick Andrews knew what he was doing, and Yamaha built them... Still more than capable with a decent rider on them. And so easy to live with, mine is a pile of scrap, built out of junk from Ebay. The engine is made out of 3 or 4 boxes of bits, only bought a base gasket and a set of rings. My kids go off playing on it whenever they want.I use it for fun or searching for dead trees to cut.(Firewood, our woodburner is our only heat source) Oil the chain and add fuel - isn't that what they say about modern bikes ? (I guess this is the same without depreciation)
  21. Took me years to get used to using my right hand to greet people, isn't it an insult in some cultures to greet with your left hand ?
  22. So, if the rider winds it on,throttle sticks, bike loops, rider bails out, lanyard cuts ignition, bike is still screaming... Trials is as safe as the sections and the common sense of the rider - if you don't like the look of it take a 5 and move on. No matter what you think you can prepare for there will always be something to go wrong. Stay in front of the telly if it bothers you. I like the summer trials where I can ride in a tee shirt, nearly always ride without gloves in the sections unless its minus ten.
  23. Lanyard is not always the answer,I remember a Fantic screaming its brains out till it seized back in about 1986. The killswitch made no difference,it was running on hot carbon after a big off with the throttle dug in the ground, which was then found to be jammed open anyway. Didn't take long to stop...
  24. Anyone else remember back in the 80's there always seemed to be at least one or two 350 CCM's for sale at the back of TMX ? They were always £750 or £800, should have bought a few...
