    Carb Help

This would best be described as a "bowl vent loop"! It does work if clear of goop, but you would be just as well to nip off each at about 50mm in length. Consider them crap deflectors, when washing the bike!
  2. What I would give right now for a nice cool 90 degree day and sitting in an office for 60! I gotta send you a copy of something I got today, just nuts!
  3. I am sure Zipper explained all this logical quick swap stuff to the keeper of the family jewels! He He He!!! She should have asked, "Why do you need fresh chrome for the same old ass!"
  4. The NGK plugs run well at 0.6mm it seems. You can back off the oil a bit to 80:1, which should help the smokeyness. Be sure to turn the fuel off when transporting the bike so it does not slosh up a lot into the motor. Other than that, sounds pretty normal, yet don't rev it high untill the fan cycles and you got some heat in the motor. Pistons do not like that!
  5. Snot an '06!!!!!!!!!
  6. That is indeed a sweet report! I wish we could see more like that! Did not catch a woordof Gary Mac! Fek me!
  7. Your advise is sound, yet you may indeed find you are on a 33 pilot, as a 30 makes things quite weak off the bottom. The fuels in many parts has changed over the years as well with the introduction of the ethanol(alcohol) blends. Many now run a larger 35-36 range jet on the later models, yet I cannot tell if this is purely a fuel issue or the year range of the bikes as I do not have an earlier model to directly compare. I ran a 33 nicely back in '03, yet my '07 2.9 was on a 38 prior to changing the carb to the Oko! Running the fuel screw out at 3.5 turns on a Dellorto is at the limits of its range of control. And on a Dellorto, the pilot jet also controls the transition circuit, whis is that totally unregulated(jet only) other little hole in the bore, so if your pilot jet is too big, even though you might be able to achieve a good idle with the fuel screw adjustment, it could turn a bit rich and blubber a bit at about 1/16 steady throttle during the transition to the needle. Back in the day, I had to go back to 32-33 range from 35 because of this. Add each bike and carb vary a bit, so no set rule here. My '07 was on 1.5 turns out with the 38, and worked perfect on our fuel! Adjust on the temps of the day, need more(out) when its cold.
  8. Do you actually need a rechrome? Lots of times a bore can be cleaned up quite acceptably with a hone job and an oversized piston. This work is a bit specilized and the bore measured properly though. A good cyl shop can tell you!
  9. The fact that Cody won this year is a bit of an emotional topic, to myself and possibly others that have followed him through the years. I am not quite sure what happened, but Cody found himself, aside from all other goings on. And I do not think anyone would deny that, and still all the others on the long history of the Sherco side are proud as well. All point being, have a bit of fun, but stick with the schoolwork! It basically sucks! But stick to the stuff and do not let yourself be distracted from your future! The real challenges begin! Kip, can you hire a Math and Physics Tutor that can ride and double as a minder? Grinding him on gradients, angles and force vectors and drag coefficients along the way? Good application to real world! Must disect every section!
  10. I was hoping Ham's brain would click to the fact I used the word Summik,(I cheated on the wiki thing) rather than the usual Summat, to which I have found useful at times as a pick-up from these threads. Actually, it is very similar here in the NE states such as Maine. I could probably come as close to decoding a geordie as one of them. I do enjoy asking the Brits I may run across, (Wheer ya'll frum?)
  11. Fracy got that right! RL, recall that trail from the backwooks and hills to back to camp up at Grand Lake?!!!! Click -up and haul ass! Those hills are a good example as well, coming up the backside, it is a long hard grade. Maybe 1/4 mile and several hundred feet vertically. You either slow down to keep from winding the crap out of third or go to 4th and hope you can keep it in the power to pull the hill.
  12. And now for a good joke! How many patches in the rubber on the Beemer?
  13. Here we go again! Please define "Mackem"! Did i miss the joke? Me thinks it a cultural slur or summik!
  14. All is a tradeoff here, however you could go with a 44-46 rear which makes 4th and even 5th more usable on the loop, then just use 2nd and 3rd in sections! I could never use 4th on a hillclimb unless there was a big run and it was a fast hill.
  15. I could tell you horror stories! Just on the average vehicle I work on today, there may be 10-30 various computer modules! If there is a problem, you just have to update the software and hope things work! Then if it does not, you may have a real problem(with a list of possibilities to sort through) or still yet another software glitch. One never knows! After the listed possibilitys do not shake out, you have to throw the book away whilst developing alternate solutions, usually process of elimination, untill you either resolve it or give up! Then a week or month later you might just get a call stating there is a software fix on the way! Hmmmm! Someone knew about this all along! Think they would speak up? Not! There went half my day already on average, then we get into mechanicals on things! Trust me here, cars are designed to be Assembled, not Repaired! I think the worst case I seen was a fellow at work that had one them Beemer built Mini Coopers that quit pulling. He took it in and they gave him a 2K or more estimate to put a clutch in it, with about 15 hrs labor! Nuts! So he brought it back to us, as even we do not normally work on those things, figured the little thing would be simple enough, and I have a fellow at work that is always up for a challenge. Well, sure enough, you gotta take the entire front off the car to get the tranny out! Feck me! Bad thing was it busted the internals on the tranny! And one part number fixes that! So, at the cost of a new trials bike, it worked again! The common saying in the shop is " Just give me 5 minutes alone with the bas---d that designed THIS! All I need is 5 min!" Now this may not always be obvious, yet lit me give a small example, kid kicked the hellofit out the right A/C vent and the louver thin is broken. Get it in the shop and take a look, how exactly does this thing come out? I give, so let's look in the manual! Good idea, really, on anythin one is unsure of so you don't feck things up! Right! Go to manual, and first words are"disconnect battery" well, You know you are shot! Next line, "Remove dash panel assy. Refer to section 21 for instructions." Take a deep breath, relax, then just hope this job has not been quoted! NUTS!
  16. The only difference I am aware of is it seems some pistons may have a cutaway in the rear skirt and others not, but that in itself makes no difference in performance. A glance through the 99-00 parts books and I did not find the 2.9 piston listed? All the same, best to ck with the importer to be sure. Roumour was it was the same piston as Beta 270, and many pistons still said Beta on them in the casting. Precise fitment depends upon the A-B-C sizing variences, so you must ck top piston stamping letter to be sure.
  17. Keeping the filter and box clean, and without washing in the dirt and grit seems to be the biggie here. I stand upon the washing precautions from experience, so be it! Keep us posted ! And thanks for the feedback! Cheers, MC
  18. Tim old boy, I agree with all that, yet most production has gone to China! We have all exported jobs faster than we can create them. My Jap camera is made in China! WTF! No longer think we need a strong Navy to guard ships owned by the Koreans to bring crap to sell to us from China and elsewhere ! False profits by importers and salesmen sucking our own blood! Easy Money! Just move product! Skilled labor?, I think these fecks are dying off faster than youcan replace them, for the most.
  19. Well, if you are that cheap and smart, just use what you need foo the factory harness and solder and heatshrink the wires together. Add your end for the killswitch and done! Figure it out!
  20. Oh good! Another to chalk up to seal detioration then, seems yours may have been worse than many in earlier stages. So this is a definate based upon your findings? MC
  21. I was actually referring to Triumph motorcycles of late, not those old cars, although I always thought the Spitfires looked really good sitting on the side of the road! You would need to tell me what "Cockney" means, yet I did find another I liked, Could we hire this guy?
  22. I think you would find the Sherco 250 to be a bit lighter and quicker bike than the Beta. Bit more aggressive, although not too much! You just gotta get out and try one to your taste! Historically, the Betas been smoother off the bottom, yet not much on top!
