Some slap just seems normal on a motor that has been ridden in. As long as the compression is good on the pushthrough, doubt I would mess much.
-
If they ran like a Montesa that you cannot chug down without stalling, I would not like either the Sherco or Beta it seems. The FI just seems to
take away from the real four stroke feel.
-
Oh, Clive, the word is do not use the ethanol induced fuel in the glass tanks! That is glass is it not?
-
All she needs is a bit more leather and a whip!
-
And I thought it was bad back then!

Excellent reply Slalom, I somewhat understand, although if the AMA article from Dingman is correct and this litigation has stretched out for over seven years at an(combined) estimated cost that well may exceed the cost of every motorcycle that ever participated in an AHRMA event, then someone is definitely riding the baloony pony here and milking it for all it is worth! Nothing personal, I work on cars and trucks for a living, I am accustomed to abuse as well!
Your explanation on ITSA in its current state is probably very accurate and well justified, things being in their infancy. I find it somewhat refreshing that at least someone in your position understands the need to develop and evolve. And Promote! Good to know that someone is watching!
I said I would get off the rant, and I will!
Now Glenn, mmmmm, that's purdy, have you got it dirty, lately?
I see you are #2! You know what that is!
I keep a small O#2 sticker on my plate to remind me!
-
Grab me a T, will ya! Sending a deposit this week!
-
Man that looks SWEET, Clive!
Never would'a thunk it, as you did not ask a lot of questions or nuthin' on the forum!
You might need to invite Lane over to give you some lessons cause if you fill up those Akront mudcatchers, reach for the brake on the wrong side, fall over and let that Amal pee down your leg, well, just remember it weighs more than you!
-
The factory spec is 10-40, although many manufacturers of motorcycle lubes use a different scale, referred as light gear oil. The Maxima is 80wt as example.
Some use ATF, tends to make the clutch a bit snappier!
-
Hell, it even scares me! I can carry about 350lbs in a 2 seat Cessna with full fuel, that means me and Darrell. Change that to a pilot, bike and bags and things change!
Removing passenger seat and installing trials bike with wheels removed has yet to be done as, there is baggage room. Ad bags and you are back to Darrels weight. All about placement and balance you see! Just have to make things fit.
How long can it be to BC at 120mph? Bad weather and all? Hummm?
-
Carl, I would just put the works shock on the '02 to see what difference it makes.
To do a bit of "feel" testing, press down upon the rear and judge the compression and rebound rates after a bit of warmup. The earlier shocks tended to be a bit slow on the rebound.
Your '06 may be a bit quicker to start with by comparison, this is OK as long as it has oil and damping effect.
The Works shock just needs to be in range on its adjustments, not too quick, not too dead on rebound.
Just remember the basics, Too quick on both compression and rebound will spring you off the bike! Loose traction at critical times and so it goes.
A quicker rebound is better for trick riding and moving the rear(which is in style) yet may well overwork you trying to keep up with it and maintain traction.
All of this is much limited my you own ability and your minds ability to adjust to the bike. Timing becomes an issue, but it never stopped the riders! Just adjust. Stability has its value, you see!
Have fun !

You see Glenn, that is my point, even ITSA has limited itself if even your Fantic does not qualify. At least they are not disallowing folks to ride the events, I just don't think some are thinking outside their narror boxes here. Adding classes is nothing, getting participation is everything! Even through aircooled monos I would think! This IS a VINTAGE bike! This is 2009 dude!
Sure there are some riders that it makes little difference, both extremes, but these are the 10% at the ends of the spectrum.
If I took a good rider like Ray Peters, put him on Ginders Yamaha bike, your Fantic, or a aircooled mono, do you think it would make much difference at the end of the day? Little if any, I suspect. To most of us at the lower end? Those in the middle?
I just gotta get off this whole topic, as it has just served to p*** me off for quite a while, I am just venting! The lawsuit thing from AHRMA is enough to p*** off the Pope! The money wasted! Squandered by lawyers and greed! We as the(potential) riders need a FRESH start and approach if any of this is going to sustain itself over time. Trials has got the short end for sure due to poor insight and forsight!

So do you have an opinion here that you would like to allow?
Maybe we could trade Hillary Clinton?
-
sidenote:
It is rather ironic, but even the mexicans are getting worried about going back to mexico with all the drug lord shootings and kidnappings. The tourist industry is being hurt and people often do not feel secure.
This is what happens when the gangs and pirates rule, and are soo blatently open with this type of aggression.
-
Try rinsing with fresh water to remove all that spewed out the radiator! An be sure to replenish the lost coolant, about halfway between the coil tubes and the top of the tank so there is some expansion room, that should do.
More concerned about siezing or otherwise damaging the piston/cyl than the gaskets.
-
Whomever started all this, I wouuld not pee upon if their guts were on fire!
As an old rider coming back into trials, I had enough problems with the Ahrma rules that I encountered upon inquirey, shunned it, too much trouble.
ITSA seems to have a better attitude, yet there are still limits that I do not personally agree with.
You see, the primary objective has been overlooked! This objective should be solely to get folks out to ride the events, take their relics out of the barn and go out to bave a bit of fun and compete. Bring wot you got! We want and need a turnout! I want you to come and participate! I want YOU to have some fun and competition! I want you to pick a class and ride! Hopefully we can get enough entry to cover the costs and even maybe mke a buck for the sponsor!
Early mono's, disc brakes , specials! think of all who are put off, as many as are put on! Hell, we run 6 or 8 classes in our state series, maybe more now, don't even tell me it cannot be done in a national meet!
OK, I will shut up and let all those other old grumps p*** and moan, history is history, adjustments need to be made, get over it! I would rather more support and develop it rather than letting things collapse due to stupidity and self indulgence!

Cannot help you with shock lengths, but the ones that are sold by others such as Ohlins seem to be a generic fit throughout the years.
Lewisport may be able to confirm that, as they are a dealer.
I seem to recall the Delta Link changing in '04, as I still have an old one off my '03 bike, which i changed out. There was a couple mm change in one side if it, but the '03 shock was still rather slow on the rebound. This was never horrible, as most do not need the quickness for trick riding anyway.
Heard they changed the Delta again in '09, not sure the specs.
The shocks on the '06 seemed to leak, but were still not as quick as the '07 adjustable unit, so the more oil they leak, the better they got, all the way till they make those sucking sounds and lock up!
The Works Perf. shock was developed with Lane Leavitt. The hope was a better and adjustable shock at a reasonable price. I cannot tell you what did not work out, but we never heard much. Maybe they work, maybe not, worth a try!
-
Holy crap, now you are making me go round the same side as the Red boys, I am scared already!
Can you make more portable rocks? What if you decide to change it up? If the wire will not come out of the rock, how do you change the marker? Must you beat the wire into the rock?
We have used the adhesive on many rocks in OK, same problem with the paper though.
-
Stop running the thing till it totally overheats or you may well damage it, dummy!
If it is indeed the ground wire that you suspect, you should then be able to arc accross the thermo switch and the fan should run, this can be done by just starting the bike with the tank off, as they will idle and run the fan fine at idle.

A married couple are sitting in the office of a marriage counselor.
Neither the husband nor the wife has said a word since entering the
office...
The counselor, wanting to start the session, says, "Tell me something
that both of you have in common."
There's silence for a few seconds until the husband finally says,
"Well, neither one of us sucks."

All is well DFW, Just one of them B-52 mosquitos!
I was in Co once an was up near the Wyo border, I seen the sign, stopped the car, got out, put my foot accross the sign and toutched the ground. Never been further north, no reason, turned around and went home! But I have seen YO!
For some odd reason, I have never wanted to go further. Mind you, I have covered coast to coast, even the Bahamas, in a small aircraft even(very small), brought shrimp from the gulf and fresh strawberries from FL(no mud bugs from LA)!
As this sort of stuff is always an adventure, a trip to BC to visit Fracy is on the list! Being limited to about o more than 10,000 ft elevation, course selection is critical in which way to go crossing the rockies!
-
I rather like the small arrows you have, the only problem would be for the colorblind riders possibly, which would require a number to go with the color, easily done. They could be just a bit thicker, not longer. Single (special )lines may be hard to spot.
The wire can be difficult when drilling holes in rocks and such, very labor intensive, add possible damage to the rocks from water/ ice entry.
We have even more classes here, yet the easiest way we have found for classes such as SR Exp.(who would ride the harder of the Int. lines and the easier of the Exp. lines, about 50/50) these are marked on the entry signs as SR=E or SR=I.
That signboard does seem pretty durable, as a matter of fact is seems Ray Peters had made a bit of a single bike enclosed trailer out of it which resembled the front of the Stealth fighter, to pull behind his Mitsu at high speeds! Should have taken a piccie!
-
I cannot recall how those clubs overlap up there, but there are a number of riders, some may be near you. You just gotta get out a bit and ride with them, find some buddies, they will help you along.
Trials is fun and challenging, relax and have fun, don't push it! Just ride and practice, the rocks always win!
-
Same thing happened to me after putting up that snippit on the Beta, it is on my posterior, cannot get rid of it, may have to have it lanced!
-
Tell Phillip I have some CF reinforced Butt Busters he can try!
We have to send (what's her name), Karen? to take a plaster cast of his bum! HA!
