  1. I want to give her a five, just so we can negotiate the outcome!
  2. As Zippy said, the 250 is fully capable through expert and beyond. Yet most are very rideable. Do not overlook a good 200 as a starter bike, gentile power!
  3. You may be correct there Paul, although for the most part we are talking non-o- ringed chains here. WD-40 is very basic, yet it does work. You see most on this forum are too cheap to buy tri-flow! I have it sitting here, yet I don't use it for that!
  4. Jon, subs are not all that small! The Uss Drum there is only 311 ft long! 27 ft wide! Set on dry ground, it is HUGE! Somewhere about 6 stories from the tower to the keel! Not bad for 1942! And yes you can travel all through it. It IS a plumbers nightmare! How all this worked is just beyond me. Still rather cramped, I sort of got a laugh at the valves and handles next to the head's! Just hope someone does not go pulling and pushing at the same time!
  5. As an answer to the quiz, al that stuff powers what is behind it, an SR-71-- the fastest ever 1960 technology that has never been beat! At an official mach 3.2, this was easily exceeded! They were only recently retired.
  6. The park at Mobile is rather unique, in that they have a submarine and a aircraft museum as well. These guys just like BIG toys, simply amazing what all is there. I have actually been there many years ago(never miss a chance) and I was somewhat surprised to find out that the hurricane Katrina had actually wiped out most of the aircraft hangar some three years ago. Most has been cleaned up, although there are still many damaged rare aircraft. Seems the 20-30 ft waves just piled them up at one end of the hangar. Here is a pic of a plumbers nightmare! Figure it out! Oh trust me, there are many, specially in the sub!
  7. This wee plackard says a lot! I will try to add more later, I need a beer now!
  8. A single 16" barrell provides a cool shady spot!
  9. The basic data on the beast. Nearly 700 ft long, 300 or so feet of the deck was done in 6 inch armour plate. This is some HEAVY METAL! Try welding one inch of steel plate sometime!
  10. On my recent 2500mile rounder to FL and back, I did not spot any trains. I did, however spot this. Much larger! Cannot get it all in the viewfinder! Thought I would share a few pic's! It is the USS Alabama, sitting in Mobile Bay. There is a fair amount of history about this 60 something year old ship. Suffice it to say that as something of a WWII history buff myself, I find it difficult to miss an oppertunity for a tour. Yet I need half the day minimum to rush through things here. Cannot do it justice, yet I sent the wife off on a shopping spree just to buy some time! And as an engineering study, these massive beasts stand alone. How all this was done via sliderule shall always baffle me. The sheer power amazing. The firepower awesome. The speed swift! The manufacturing and technology of its time simply boggles the mind. And it is all intact, HERE!
  11. No way TFT, sarcasm and disrespect must be earned! However, to quote this fresh Aussie I spent two days in class with last week, "I do not charge extra for these services"! I think they kicked him out!
  12. What you describe sounds as though the rectifier may be going. I would ck the connections first.
  13. Well Clark, this could be the case depending upon what it was rubbing upon. If it was rubbed by the plastic fan, I would not normally think it could find a suffuicient alternate electrical path to disrupt ignition, unless it was wet. This obviously needs to be corrected, as well as inspecting the cap connection. Try to correct these basic things and let me know, there is a possibility of a F/U box/ coil, or a stator or trigger coil problem. These issues do seem to pop up. Ckeck your coil ground wire as well for clean and tight. Might try removing kill switch in case of water entry. All basics to cover, we can always use mine for a tester if worse comes to worse. This is about the limit of my free advise over the internet, from here on out you must bring beer! And NO texting!
  14. That is interisting to hear what Bliss is doing to them. My fists thought was back to the smaller carb, possibly an OKO 26, Tell us more please!
  15. If a chain is really grungy, I soak it in mineral spirits to soften the goo and loosten the crud, wire brush it by hand with a small stainless brush, link by link. All clean, the mineral spirits will blow dry, then treat with a similar product to what Dave describes called corrosion-X . Once clean and treated, powerwash and WD-40 will sustain it for a great while.
  16. We have lots of big lads, many do quite well if they are in any sort of condition. Trials may well be your thing! If you stick to it! Could even be your salvation! Many have attested to this!
  17. Clark would be chuffed if he rode enough to actually break something, yet at this point I doubt it! We shall see!
  18. Brian is obvoiusly up to something wierd here! Probably something similar to a Scorpa clutch, to adapt to a Honda!
  19. Clark, there is a possibility the main could be cloggeg, yet it would likely require almost an idiots repeated heavy running in a lean misfire condition while dumping way too much unburnt fuel into the exhaust,to try and clear a plugged jet to overheat the exhaust that badly! Does anything ring any bells here? Like continuously running down the road with it missing? And if you did all that trying to clear it, it the plug ok?
  20. The banjo bolt and bleeder appears to be listed in the Sherco parts manual so your local dealer of distrubutor should be able to supply them. O/h kits as well! If you have no one, the only source I know is MRS(Rathmell Trialsports) in the UK. I hear they are very good, but you need to call, and maybe develop a relationship. I happen to have a combo sitting here, and yes the banjo does appear to be 10x1, tho not sure about the bleeder size. Not doing you any good though! Best I can tell you, Cheers, MC
  21. Clark, A thermo switch is a switch. If the fan was working normally with it, it is fine. And it may not be the motor overheating if it is not puking coolant. May be just the exhaust overheating due to the 6 month old fuel and mudwasp nests! Clean it up real well before you bring it by. I hate working on dirty bikes!
  22. I told a few it reminded me of my first Schwinn Stingray back in the '60's! Banana seat and a nice little bar to smash your grapes on!

    Taming The 4t

Wow Dave, what makes you think there is a cat? May be a Canada thing?

    Taming The 4t

Steve, does yours have an outer support bearing on the flywheel cover? For the crank/ I thought I seen something about a change there? I thought the cam was part of the mod kit sent out on the early bikes? I thought that was just some mod of the decompressor system, yet I could be totally off here. Maybe Ishy knows for sure?
