He he! I guess that did sound a bit odd! It is true though!
These things have peed me off for many years now! Have you ever tried to convince a mexican to knock off the sauce(so it did not slide between your fingers) and add a bit of mustard? I was once told by a manager that it was against the patent laws! As the burger was registered!
-
Jon, I would be interisted to see if the Gasser will support the even wider gap of .027-.028 with whatever ignition you are running.
I have run this with the VX plugs for the last three years at that gap, which really does seem to help a bit on starting and low end power!
Obviously the resistor plug offers some disadvantage in itself. Not quite sure where the limits are, but the optimum limits are not written!
The question about the IEX plug, does the resistor offset the low resistance of the electrode?
These limits of reliability will only be found at the upper limits of high density air, as you well know.
Thoughts?

Sorry, that is true, but the "special sauce" does guarantee it will slide it's sections apart while you are trying to finger the last bits!
-
This is sooo true! Just takes a bit to get it off the bottom so it will go!
The 125's just require better application of the power!
-
I am stunned, and somewhat speechless at that news.
Strange to say that I had recently thought about Howard and somewhat at a loss about his lack of input on this forum, as over the years he was always helpful and full of knowledge, the sort that you seldom meet! And I had developed a great respect!
I think you have done a great writing in your commeritive here DabDab. I must admit I am a bit teary eyed here.
Rest well Howard, I will catch you on the flip side,
MC

It is always a great event, closest for the snowbirds! And the experts are tough!
If you want your moneys worth, you can try the Masters line, hang on!
-
Sorry mate, 125's do not have bottom end power. If you have a Sherco, you are lucky, as they have more than most!
Many run a gear change to a 46 or 48 to make first gear more powerful, second more usable, and third a maybe on the huge stuff!
28mm carbs do not add torque!

Way to go Ronnie!
Now tell dad you want to go to Vegas and have some fun! You deserve it!
-
Ummmmhhhh! This should do the trick!
A little trick!
Oops , scroll down to the post 19!
-
That does sound like quite a project, Jon!
You must get some pics!
-
Has anyone tried these? Seen on ebay, the look the mutt's, and available in red, blue or black insert I think.
I have been partial to the medium compound Renthal grips, and these seem a bit pricy, if only to be dissapointed. Think they are Itialian.

Well Wayne, suffice it to say that if you are white and middle classed, you have two strikes against you. Thankfully, there is a bit based upon academics! But the pure logistics, from TX to FL are killer, SPRING? Yea that is just about the time I have to empty the dorm room, bring things back for Summer, then repeat in fall! Which currently includes her car, which is basically a two day trip each way. Just about $1000 each time I go down and back, and four days off work.
My outgo is quickly exceeding my income!
I do not know if you have read other recent threads , but I am getting me a little Yamaha XT 225 enduro for short trips and possibly to work and back. Getting rid of the Quad that the wife and daughter never ride. I figure I can save 100-150 per month in fuel costs alone. But as you well know, only if the weather is good! Oh well, in a way it is all good!
-
There you go boy, good job Chris!
Steve, you are a walking history lesson! As I missed it, it is good to know a bit of this and that! You see, after being totally out of the loop for over 20 years, and never a trials rider untill this decade, I would not recognise an ex pro if he hit me in the back of the head!
Noel and I always chat, Kip likes my margs, the kids are just nuts!
Maybe we need to ask Dan to run a old fart/reunion ride with the youth and women.
We may need to drop the dads back to the 1 line so they can drive home, but I can envision a class building here! Kurt Comer would probably show for that, screw Ryan, he is too young!!!!!and good! Are you over 45 ?
The new Youth, Womens, and Old Farts Nationals! Wow!
-
Yes, and at the current rate the daughter is burning college money, I may have to start a new thread called " Will the Sherco outlive you, or will you outlive the Sherco" ????????
-
And you see there Jon, Ralphy has done us a calculation on the angular change, which just goes to support my theory that it is basically neglidgable.
Now I shall expound upon my "Little Man in the Boat" theory(it is Friday night), just for Jon!
You see, the boat has to displace a certain amount of water to support itself and the occupant. Consider the springs on the bike just like the water.
As the position of the man changes, so does the waterline of the boat. The changes of the weight of the man shall have a profound effect upon how the boat sits in the water. The same effect applies to just how much angular difference is changed on the bike. Not only that, but how much weight is applied upon the tire. Grip requires friction, friction requires force, force requires weight. And once the grip is exceeded, you will no longer turn(tire will push or skate).
You need a MOTORBOAT!
Recall them motorboat sounds when you are thinking about the little man in the boat?
Well, you see that the motor will automatically lean the boat toward the inside of the turn when instructed to do so. As our little boat motor(the rear wheel) does not turn sideways, WE are the ones that have to supply the correct lean angle for the turn. It is like cheating! As we can artificially influence the natural lean angle to effect the turn, at least within certain limits of balance.
As Scorpa3 must obviously ride a Scorps, which has in itself an extreme turning angle, more than most anything out there, yet still having problems, I doubt a change in the fork height will give you much change. You need to be think more about where the man is in the boat!
Now , can you make that little sound of the motorboat? Keep your inside arm straight man! And make the sound!
I need more beer now!

Hummmm!
Should at least have been a complete results listing in the September TC, yet, at a glance I did not see it!
Pity, as it does mean something to both the ladies and the kids, and it IS of National status!
I know there were some delays, but I did not think it forgotton. Oh well, we got a pic of Ctiy Trials on the cover. He is kinda like a BIG kid! You know, the one your parents warned you about!
-
I think that little Fantic is SOOOOO cool! You will have to be the judge as it is beyond me!
Well, even though we are a long way from the coast, in Dallas area, the forcasts are not good, with the combo of another frontal movement!
And I need to go up to OK to pick up the new XT toy on Sunday, we'll see! I just love tornado's and such!
-
And that is why I am where I am, duely noted!
As one cannot loose perspective, nor pull the Cessna off the side of the road for a quick repair!
I get soo deep into things I cannot see daylight sometimes, point being, some will never fathom it!
Again , good work man!
-
You may be correct in reality, yet remember we are negating other factors basically, which only leaves the change in wheelbase, and the result of the drop, of say 6mm, just how much is that going to change wheelbase? Err' uh my mind says roughly 2mm.
You will never make that turn Jon, it in itself is a totally negledgable factor, you are screwed! And the CG is not a constant, nor is Wf, they are dependant as the rider position changes which is centered on the pegs aft of CG.
I postulate that if you did this same scenerio in 3 dimentions, a similar 6mm change in lean angle of the bike would yield you a more signifigant change in turning radius than the steering angle. Go run that through your 3D animation and let me know if you can make that turn?
I need another beer now!
-
All funning aside, looks as though you are doing a great job Michael!!!!!!
Even though I admit I think you are nuts, you seem to be a nice guy! Spending this much time and effort on an old POS just does not make sense! You are your own enemy!
Sincerely,
MC
ps- Remind me one of these days to take some pics of the POS '76 Cessna 150 that has been sitting around since 2001 in my space!
-
Yes, but do have enough fingers to count what this TY80 has cost so far, include medical bills!!!!!!!
I remember taking a spin on a buddy's kid's CR80 last year, thing was a bodycast waiting to happen! No wonder they just line up the ambulances at the MX track like taxi cabs!
One thing I have noticed, at least the euros tend to run the small displacement bikes on a full size frame, even 50's! for enduro and motard!
-
-
I tend to agree with Dave on that one, as they are very tractable off the bottom and chug along well. Past half, build up your arms for the accel and decel when you let off, just a beauty thing of a real 4T!
I will have me one before it is done!
-
Does that mean you screwed the first one up?
Even using the morern Gasgas or Beta as an example though, you still have to rev them to make power! Does the old TY even have a reed valve?
