  1. I think this maybe somewhat normal as it is occasional. Has to do with how you put the boot to it and wotnot!
  2. Actually I am somewhat surprised at this as since they changed the cover for 06-07 mine have been tight as a ducks bottom even in the pressure wash. In years prior I would always drill a small hole in the bottom so whatever got in could get out and allow some breathing. Maybe it is just THAT cover that is warped or summat. They are not costly, the o-ring is! Maybe you can seal it with a dab of RTV, worth a try.
  3. Good pics! Nice to put some images with folk!
  4. pardon me for saying so mate, but you seem like a bit of Honda/Mont hater. did someone run over your dog with a 4rt? No, certain things are just over rated, cost too much, weigh too much. But the worst thing I dislike about the Montesa is that if you let the revs get low it flames out, Big Time! Seen it again yesterday when a mate tried to put his up a big angled slab and got slow at the top. Near pulled my back out trying to catch him! Them biches are not all that easy to start either once they flameout! Real pain in the butt! The simple fact of not being able to chug a trials bike down low is a real pisser! I have ridden the 4T Beta and all I can say is it seems to work very well. But it does seem the same thing happens if you do stall it! Mainly a 4T thing i think. You do have to have a bit of touch with them! The Scorpa and Sherco 4T's ,even with a conventional carb, run well. Probably not a good ider to try and wick them wide open off idle! But normal people don't do that under normal circumstances!
  5. Just, John.B? That's not Bliss is it? Had a good outing today, working some setup for our regional event. Lots of big up's and down's on a dry sand and rock dusty loop with lots of rollers to throw you! Tough stuff where the rear is hard to control going downhill. All I can say is the darned thing works so well that once again, the lost motion issue and increased sensitivity may cause me to start hitting the rear disc with a bit of the overspray of the WD40 when cleaning the bike! Just very sensitive!
  6. Good catch Brian, totally confuses me too! I hear the modern Catholics have what is called "drive thru" communion now! You simply confess and leave money at the window!!! Maybe he can still apply! I hear it works for the gays!
  7. And I just spent too much time on that technology thread trying to say the same thing! Good job Steve! And Woody!
  8. I work on all types of modern technology on a daily basis in the auto industry. ABS, eletronic throttles , EFI, multi-stage airbags, electronic stability programs that operate your throttle and brakes for you so you are less likely to put your own stupid ar-- in a ditch! In my opinion, the bikes that are currently built for trials are soo specialty built for the "non' average rider, mostly at WTC level or near, that the truly average rider may have great difficulty coping with it! You see, everything is a trade off! There is no single solution to this delima, although there is at least an attempt with the things like the 4T Scorpa in the long ride configuration and the TRAIL version, what do you call it? And although that motor is a big lump, it still works! Hell, if the Honda motor was not such a rebuilt(read overbuilt) piece of motocross engineering, they could have put a battery pack on it instead ov capcitors so the friggin thing would run below 1200 rpm and not weigh a ton! There are only 5 true modern dedicated trials motors out there right now, with the #6 yet to be seen. The Gasser 2T, the Beta 2 and 4T, the Sherco 2 and 4T! The Gasser 4T is TBD! The 2T Scorps is a good running 20 + year design, but is not counted here! The others don't really qualify! I like good things that are simple and work form a design and engineering standpoint! And for reliability and maintenance! What can you fix sitting on the side of the road? Easily? Anyone had a load of bad dirty fuel in a Mont? You are fu---! I may be old enough to recall Amal's and Bing's, and Dellorto's are not all that much better, but it does not yet mean I need microchips on a trials bike, they should be totally banned in MHO, as the trials is still about Man and Machine(not electrinics) vs the Terrain, even in the indoor manmade events! And untill the point is reached that the tree huggers and the EPA government mandates absolutly require otherwise, it should be kept that way!
  9. Purely speculation, yet i would venture a guess that the FI system is under license from Keihin or something similar. Adaptation to a different bike is all in the mapping and injector size within limits! They make money selling components! God help you if and when something does fail! Or you bash it! The $600 fuel tank(comes with pump) was an early turn off to me with the Mont. I'm sure they have gone up by now! Good one Chris! A REAL bike is good! Gives you a real sense of riding too! A good 4T is pure pleasure to ride!
  10. Best deal out there if you are riding a muddy trial is to make a "flap" from duct tape that covers the area! Depending once again, even tape up the side along the airbox! If on the later models, cover the holes in the fender! Tape up the holes in the bashplate too so they don't pack up! That should put you just about tight as a ducks butt!
  11. As a sidenote on this thread, you know it is reported that the 4T Gasser will have the same F.I. system as the Honda, and 350 or more cc that revs to 12,000 rpm or more! Should be fun! To WATCH!
  12. Yep, I am pretty sure the numbers will equate to .001 inch each, or in other words, a C3 will have .003 in. standard clearance when new. Seems I recall that the main bearings in the later model Sherco's are running some type of ceramic material or coating as well. If I were going to the trouble to replace them, I would stick with the factory parts rather than a generic match to save a few quid! Might be better off in the long run. There are just some things that I only want to do ONCE!
  13. Baldi, The C3, C4 refers to the manufactured clearances of the bearing. Things must be able to move you know, and carry a boundry layer of oil! If that switch is not worth it, I would be tempted to hardwire the thing and chunk the switch! Or maybe hide a micro switch under the tank!
  14. My BRANE hurts, need more beer, thanks Billy!
  15. Bikes are less costly than expensive girls, stick with the Sherco!
  16. I wish the Andy would allow me to post the flick of Caby on the 4T as a stickie, it is a 20 meg file! It IS tops!

    Mr Vain ?

Neon, you have to RIDE it before it gets that way! I am still looking for where he got Kevlar panties he used for the lace job on the Scorpa frame!(Been years now)!
  18. Different aspects come to mind, but I do think a lot is left up to the rider. Jarvis don't seem to have much problem! Was it Oliveras or Bruand on it in the WTC? The bikes are good runners as compared to the sewing machine, they will chug down low and pull strong! Take a Honda out in the yard and clikc it up to 4th or 5th gear and try a bit of chugging around, see what happens when the revs get low! What fun! On the '05 bikes, of which I rode 2, one was sorta crappy running and the other spot on. Both would go ballistic with the wick on! This was before the mod kits even. I attribute this mostly to the Dellorto's as it seems you either get a good one or a bad one. If the Chineese want to copy something, the Dellorto would be the one! For five bucks you could get one! I think Ishy wound up with the good runner! Although I have not had a run on the '07, I would naturally attribute the reported perkiness to the 28mm PWK. Lots of carb there! A more precise mixer for sure and smooth yet very powerful, same as with it on the 2T! Makes me wonder what a 24 or 26mm PWK would do on the bike? Untill then, even the slow throttle might help, maybe even the "smart' thing to do! After all, the real difference is that you are talking about hopping on an "out of the box" top contender, not a stock Mont which after a few thousand MORE bucks can be made into a PRO bike! But I'll bet you it is not a BOU bike! BTW, the orange paint and stickers are cheap!
  19. Would like to see Cody on 4T! What about the jetting, where is it at? Where does it need to be?
  20. Just call Adrian and get the Ohlins on order! I'll buy the stocker!(cheap)
  21. Any reed could break, but not likely in a trials motor!
  22. As that is what the hole is there for! New seals are in order, possibly new shaft if it is grooved. If the coolant level is too low, the fan may not operate! Fill with water to test it, just enough to cover the radiator core and leave a little room at the top for expansion. Run the bike, fan should come on within 5-10 minutes, if it will not come on, connect the two wires going to the thermo switch together, fan should run.
