  1. OK how longs a piece of string. Bought a standardish TY250 twinshock off ebay as a "project" standby bike for when the others are W.I.P. and i want a ride. OK shes not pretty but doesnt owe me a lot and mostly all there. Now i've measured the wheelbase and it's 50" there's 13.5" ground clearence and it rides and steers fine. So is it worth the hassle and effort of cutting and shuting the frame to lift the engine a la Majesty?
  2. OK. As usual with me a bit complicated but i will try to keep it simple. I've just bought a std TY250 twinshock as a bit of a "project" as if i aint got enough The front forks are pitted so my options are? 1. Have them rechromed. Problem everybody says they are crap forks anyway. 2. Fit a set off a TY250Mono. Have you ever tried to get hold of a set of forks off a TY250mono that arent knackered already? 3. Find and fit a set off something else. Now this i find attractive as there is more chance of finding something than trying to find a set of mono ones. Plus if i can fit a set of 35mm dia ones the fork yokes dont need machining so much unlike with mono TY ones as they are 36mm against the std TY 34mm. However. What actually are the rules on forks? I know in Pre65 they are quite strict so youend up fitting whatever Betor or Marzocci into Norton or AJS sliders but is this a problem in Twinshock? Just trying to save a bit of wonga till i can sell the B40. So any suggestions?
  3. Dave Renham at Bultaco UK may be worth a try as he sells Bings for Bultacos.
  4. Sounds like the best idea mate. Assuming you are an ACU licence holder look in the handbook for the dates and venues I'm afraid that you won't find the dates in the handbook. If you look on the ACU website the info is there. Sorry i knew it was one or the other. That'll teach me to check before typing.

  6. Live and learn. Better look after mine then. Thanks Woodie.
  7. I picked up a second hand sidestand while in Spain recently and the airbox's are available from Sammy or Bultaco UK but they are now only in glass fibre not the original rubber ones. Didnt think the sidepanels were that different? Unless yours is a Comerford one but they if i remember correctly just cut the std sidepanels to suit. I dont know if you know Big John but i think he may have a sidestand you could copy. They are only basic.
  8. Dont know where abouts in the country you are mate. We are a bit spoilt i suppose here in Derbyshire. Just have to keep your eyes on T&MX. It's just that i have found that the stuff modern bike riders seem to like to ride isnt quite what the old twinshocks were built for. Even if they have an "easy" route it still never seems to quite work out right. Just have to ride at a few clubs. Look at the results in T&MX for how the twinshocks did marks wise. Ask other twinshock riders etc. eventually you will find the events and clubs within a distance you are comfortable with. Other alternative is to get the Majesty registered and enter the Miller rounds etc. Sorry cant be more helpful. It's not that i dont like modern bikes just that their riders are looking for a different sort of challenge to me and i dont see why i should be there just as a cash cow to bolster the funds. I pay the same as anybody else so deserve an enjoyable ride. Just vote with your feet and enjoy your trialing
  9. My advice to you would be stick to the classic trial's mate, don't think you'd ever get a decent ride at a cater for all trial to be honest. Totally agree stick to Classic and twinshock events. Moderns and Classics dont mix IMHO.
  10. Really glad everything went ok. Sorry i couldnt make it but hopefully next year. Finances permitting
  11. So the road to Robregordo starts here and now. Dug the old 199b out and started to begin fettling ready for Robregordo next year. Now as previously mentioned somebody in the dim and distant past fitted an Amal Mk2 to her and i've never liked the running with it fitted. So going to fit a new carb but which? Ruled out the Bing as too many people say it's crap. The Mikuni or the Dellorto seems the way to go. A lot of the Spanish lads had them fitted i noticed at Robregordo this year then again i've also heard good reports about the Mikuni. I had one fitted to a Bultaco a long long time ago and seem to remember it worked well. They are both roughly the same price so what is the view of the "panel" ? Preferably if you have had experience of both or one of them i would appreciate your comments along with jetting suggestions. Looking to order one in the next couple of weeks so which do i fit? Thanks in anticipation
  12. I tend to use a BP5ES on closed circuit trials and a BP6ES if there is road work. Saying that dont notice much difference on either plug. One thing though the B40 does tend to eat plugs. Normally get about three events before needing a new one. Then again they dont cost much.
  13. Hard to help you on this one as i have only fitted one to a B40. This is one of the reasons, in a previous post about C15 pvl ign, i said "go to a man who knows. He may not be the cheapest but you get what you pay for. Cheapest isnt always the best." Bit difficult now as you have chosen to spend your money with Mr Miller. Dont say there werent enough warnings on here. You could give alan Whitton a ring 01246 419805 and see if he is willing to help you but as you did not buy your ignition off him it is down to how philanthropic he feels. all part of the service when you buy off Alan. Give him a call anyway as he can do the mods for you. I have no connection with Race Engineering other than being a satisfied customer
  14. The Fifth round of the Peak Classic Trials Club Championship was held at Wayne
  15. Ahhhh the innocence of youth. Cant disagree with his sentiments. Remember when we all used to think like that??? Nah neither can i too long and too many overdrafts ago
  16. Exactly my sentiments. DSo how exactly would this work Gent's. would we need 3 more route's added to the other route's already in the section's to accommodate for the beg hopper's,novice hopper's,expert hopper's. or run them on the no stop route's running on the hop rule's,in which case as a no stop rider i'd be better off signing on to run on the hop rule's,so if i had to correct myself i'd lose less mark's,would'nt that wipe out the no stop rule if every no stop rider thought the same.Sound's like dodgy ground to me. Sorry i should have made myself clearer. What i meant was that Clubs should clearly state at the start of the year that their trials will be run as No stop rules or not. Then riders would be able to choose which clubs events they would prefer to ride at.
  17. I was up at Burrycliffe today to try out some carburettor jet changes i had done. Mick Andrews was doing a Trials school for some of the kids. Now it's ages since i went to a "modern" trial and to be honest they dont interest me at all but the things that some of those kids were doing on 125cc bikes just amazed me. There was no way in the world i could have done those things on any bike let alone my old James. Conclusion is ? The sport that those kids ride in is not the same sport that i and many like me ride in. The modern Trial has moved so far away from what i and many like me are capable of that the same rules can not really apply to all. Possibly it is a case of chicken and the egg. The hop, stop, skip and jump rules bred a different style of riding which meant that bike development went in a different direction. Those riders on those bikes fit those rules and probably wouldnt even be interested in riding no stop rules. Me and many others just couldnt even attempt 4, 5 & 6ft sheer rocks stoping dead at the top, stand it on the front wheel, pivot through 180 deg and ride away. Not even in my dreams. So if i had to ride those sections i would just not ride and take up another sport. What is better for the sport? I have to say no stop. Why? because it encourages new blood into the sport. At least they can survive the sections. Hop, stop, roll back and jump is something only the few can ever aspire to. There is a need for that rule and those sort of trials as long as people want to ride them but it's so eliteist that the future of the sport as a whole could be in jeapody if those were the only rules. There is a program on at the moment on ITV4 about extreme moto cross. Quite a nice parallel normal moto cross events and stadium or extreme events can both co exist. Why cant Trials do likewise? The two disciplines can co exist as long as the riders and observers both know the rules the trial is run to and ride and mark accordingly. The riders will then vote with their wallets. That will be the only true way to give the customer what they want. Youve probably guessed by now what i would have voted for in the poll if i had been able to.
  18. Yep all been said many many times and both sides are fairly entrenched. Dont see much changed since last time and cant see it changing either.
  19. Thanks for sharing that. Great pictures, great skills but kept thinking and i know i am probably on my own here what has this got to do with Trials? Fantastic Circus act but Trials riding? Errr Good to watch though. Thanks
  20. Re the horn just get a battery operatd one for a push bike from Halfords or local bike shop. As long as it's constant tone no problem. The wheels will probably cause a fail unless you can find a sympathetic tester. Try asking your local Trials shop or the guys in the club where they get their bikes m.o.t'd. If you can find a Trials or off road sympathetic tester even if a few miles away it may be worth it ?
  21. Kickstart is modified Gas Gas and the blue joiner on the exhaust is silicone rubber radiator hose which acts as a heat barrier and gives an amount of flexibility and vibration isolation to the alloy silencer. Well thats the theory anyway
  22. All good input and thanks for the poll. However no body seems able to offer any conclusion regards do we need clubs as we know them. A lot of dissatisfaction that so much is left by so many to so few to organise. Also a lot of Clubs suffer from or have looming the problem of an ageing commitee. So is there another way or do we have to carry on as we are? the poo is going to hit the fan at some point at your club. Think it may be getting too late for mine. Hopefully not but how can we, apart from coercing people to help, find a better way assuming there is one?
