hi all
I know this isnt strictly on the topic of trials bikes, but my girlfreinds brother has given me his 1999 moldel Kawasaki KX80 to try and sort out. He lent the bike to a mate in the knoledge he was to buy it. Now the bike was run without gearbox oil and now the gear box obviously has issues. The bike will only pull in neutral, any other gear and the gearbox seizes. i have striped it down to have a look at the selector and all is fine there, and this is also how i can tell it only pulls in neutral.
If anyone could giva any ideas into what the hell is going on in there before i rip it all apart, i would be extreemly greatfull.
many thanks

hi all

There is a known fault with the 315 that it "pinks" at low revs and under load. This is solved with high octane fuel and a bit of 'jiggery pokery' with the timing. I never botherd with mine in the end as it didnt really bother me. The loss of power i would say has to be a problem with the carb. Possibly the main jet system? or the mixture is wrong. However it is unlikely to be the mixture if it was running ok previously.

1. remove brake pads, and coat the rear of them with copper grease.
2. run around a flat feild with the brakes fuly on until they are extreemly hot, then drench with water.
hope this helps

bugger sorry
thanks mike for pointing it out, that is the main jet. the pilot in mine is a 45, however it has the delorto on it. my guess would to give lampkins a ring and see what they say.

what oil are you using and how much? if its semi-synthetic it should be 70:1 if fully synthetic it should be 80:1. what colour is the plug burning? it should be a biscut/ chocolaty colour if not and your useing the right mixture, then its time to fiddle with the carb.
doh! just read your origanal post. if it starts without any choke it must be the carb. the bike is running too rich so you need to use the mixture screw to lean it up.

the first question to ask is if the gearbox oil is new? if it is you will have to check what type the oil is. if it has really thick gear box oil the clutch will not work properly. take the fille cap off and give it a sniff. if it is foul smelling its probably car gearbox oil. drain it out and replace with silkoline light gear oil its only

hi
geabox oil is 500ml of light gear oil. we use silkoline light gear oil with no probs. finding a manuel is hard, i have one for an 1997 wich wont be much differnt, however it is too large to send via e-mail.
