People who quote with pictures deserve to get chastised. Or better yet I've seen so BB software that doesn't allow it.

I'm afraid to ask why you use the URL for the photos instead of the IMG. Size of the pictures?
  3. To the original poster's question, a Cota 348. Having never ridden one of those, I'll surmise with that size of engine, in top shape, could be a challenge kicking over. Don't know what the brakes are like, I assume better than an OSSA. 14mm Compression Release kits are US$25-30, so 49 Euros sounds a bit steep (about US$78). You may want to check out some of the pre-65 British dealers?
  4. Ah, it finally makes sense. Thank you. So back to the original question, whether to use one. For starting, it depends on the bike. If you have a hard time kicking it over, then yes. For riding? I've found it most useful in downhills with very loose or sandy soil. We ride a lot in very dry conditions (what's know as "high desert") so this kind of terrain is common. We also ride "no-stop" so slowing is preferable to hard braking. Given that, I think down that I've moved from the "sheer rookie" stage, I could probably ride just fine without using the compression release. I'm the only rider I've ran into that even has one.
  5. I think that with the newer bikes you can get away with more ground clearance because of the extreme suspension travel, something the old bikes don't have. Are you factoring that in? Sag and overall travel?
  6. Is this the bike you were thinking of?
  7. I'll see your 30 and up you to 50! 50 ton(ne)
  8. Can one assume that if someone did go into business producing, say, footrests, that they could become a site sponsor. Some sites have vendor specific areas of a forum for advertising new parts, services and customer service. A nice way to help out small businesses and the community. But this ain't my sandbox so I got no say.
  9. What's the overall condition of the bike? How old are the seals? Is the carb clean with fresh parts? Was it running properly before?
  10. I do know that I let a good "phraaaaaaaaaaaappppppppppp" out on a downhill at Bodner Ranch last year and it put a smile on Dick Mann's face (he was checking). I've tried to read up on how it's suppose to work, and it still doesn't make sense. Here's what I'm thinking. If engine braking uses the compression to slow down a vehicle, then a compression release would allow the engine to turn more freely and thus not actually slow down anything. Now with diesels apparently the Jake Brake works because there is no throttle butterfly, and something about vacuum. But now it's just making my head hurt.
  11. I assume to go old school you will use something like Oilite? Have you considered some of the new plastics that are more durable and also self-lubricating? Perhaps Delrin? I have an uncle in the high tech plastics biz and I can get some recommendations. We used some scraps when making some suspension pieces for my Corvette. Amazing stuff they have nowadays. 20 ton(ne)
  12. I've used my compression release plenty of times, but for the life of me I can't seem to get anyone to tell me how exactly they work.
  13. On sale! 12 ton(ne) press Are you going to go with bronze bushings?
  14. I've heard that Bultaco logo-ed wear is extremely popular in Spain, kind of like West Coast Choppers/Von Dutch/Orange County Chopper stuff is in the States. More of fashion than appreciation for the marque. Does anyone know if that's true? I'd buy some of that stuff but the lousy dollar is making it difficult.
  15. Where exactly is "Smoggy Land"?
  16. Do you have a picture of your bike to share? Did any of the trials bikes have a jackshaft to get the drive sprocket closer to the swingarm pivot?
  17. Does anyone have a weight for a bare KT frame (with or without swingarm)? I'd like to compare that to a M92. I can't believe you stuffed that lathe into a SF garage. Did it cost anything to join ITSA?
  18. Its one thing to have a vintage class but its another to have vintage lines. The AHMRA riders are most liked use to gentler sections and no stop. And its challenging enough to get them to show up at AHMRA events, but a little advertising can't hurt.
  19. If the pivots aren't perfect will you be able to put the bronze bushings in and ream them so they are centered?
  20. From what I understand one of the issues with the TL125 is the proximity of the exhaust to the carb. They came with a heatshield, but if this can be improved upon (up to and including wrapping the exhaust pipe) it may help.
  21. Ok, understand the 0% thing, but why do people have different number of boxes?
  22. Sounds like you are making the same mistake the Japanese did. If you just copy a few dimensions, the rest of it should work the same. But bike handling is more complex that just a few measurements. Steering is just one part of it. So what if the head angle and trail is the same? You still have wheelbase, swingarm and weight distribution to think about. And probably a few more traits I don't even know about. And then you need an engine that complements the chassis. The Spanish had a huge headstart in development by the mid-70s. But it was just a matter of time...
  23. Questioning authority?
