I use to scoff at guys who'd wear gloves will getting all greasy. But after a while I got tired of cleaning my hands and them still smelling like chemicals. So now I just use Nitrile gloves and don't worry about it. Kinda coincided with the whole wife thing, now that I think about it, not that they ever nag about dirty hands...

I suppose they didn't have crew members to hold the bikes up?

Ty80 And Jt1 Prices
My uncle just picked one up for $700. Needs nothing, well, maybe the levers could be changed out for something smaller. It's not perfect but it is pretty complete. You can look at the pictures here. So depending on the demand in your area the price may vary. Most of the ones I've seen are in that neighborhood. Yours does need some work so you may want to factor that into the price.

Who Has A Kt250 And What Have You Done To It?
Can we assume the bike wasn't new when you rode it? How would you describe the condition (showroom, used, thrashed) and did that have anything to do with the "issues"?

I thought someone had pointed out the that the internals had changed. Sure forks look the same on the outside, but you should be able to feel the difference between older and new forks.

I don't know about that first statement. I'm just throwing my view from the very limited experience in AHRMA trials over the last couple years, and West Coast only too. We've had events where fellow riders would have to observe. You just take turns. Trials here is not like the other disciplines. Most people are out there to compete against themselves. It's how good you do against the course, not necessarily against your competitors. If you're the overly competitive type, you are most likely racing MX. Even the experience levels are unregulated, so if that's the case, then who the heck cares about the bikes? Aside from the National at Chehalis most trials are so small we are just grateful to have a trials to go to, let alone have enough observers. If anyone can chime in on the "interpretation" of vintage trials rules, it has to be Jay Lael. His Hodakas are, in my opinion, outside the "spirit of the class", as Hodaka never built anything like those bikes (nor were going to, from my understanding), BUT, the AHRMA rulebook has a couple of "exceptions. One being that specials "with obvious non-period or excessive modifications will be disqualified or required to compete in the next-higher-level class.". If he already rides in the Expert class, does that disallow the "next-higher-level exception" and thus a disqualification? And hopefully no offense to Jay, but that was the one example I could think of. He's the kind of rider who could get on most any vintage bike and do as well. As mentioned, at least in this region, the lack of riders will probably preclude any disqualifications. More riders = more observers = more events. I remember being at Mid-Ohio in the late 90s and Trials was exhibition-only. We come a ways since then.

I think the problem that was brought up in a previous conversation is that, especially over the pond, the observers are use to stopping and that no-stop seems to be an exception. So observers (who are more familiar with "modern trials") at no-stop events have a higher tendency to make a mistake and not catch the stops. At least that's my interpretation of the conversation. Or what the little voices in my head tell me.

I think there is a pretty good chance to get a 79-86 twinshock class in AHRMA. Just a matter of trying.

I'd fail that one. How about "if you have 4 dabs, how many points would you get?"

Whoever gets the bike after you is going to wonder "wtf" when they see this non-metric stuff.

My point is that are you really going to save one cent going elsewhere? Trials bikes are not sold by the hundredweight...

Ok, look at another way. If you get your deposit back and go to another dealer, won't they have the same price increase? Currency fluctuations are a fact of life.

Video From Weekend Trial In Az
My uncle is still trying to hook up with the CAT guys so he can go riding with his TY. The website seems a little dodgy (event info doesn't seem to get posted until the last second... etc.) I think he's trying to get to the next meeting. Poor guy's getting a little "stir crazy" after retiring down there. Someone take care of him, would ya'?
