Have you checked the woodruff key that holds the rotor timing in place ? Always a good place to start if everything else seems ok. GJ

I'm very lucky in that respect, Mrs Wife (well almost, the wedding's in April) has her own bike so is just as passionate as I am about all things two wheels ! It's all the driving thats bugging me. I want to go to both but the lack of motorways up my neck of the woods makes car (Landy) travel a pain in the proverbial. I'd take the bike to the show but my son wants to take his girlfriend ! Bl**dy teenagers !

Help me make a decision here guys 'n' gals.... Do I endure the 400 mile round trip, 6hr driving, mad traffic and crowds etc to watch Steve Colley at the Scottish Motorcycle Show on the Saturday (and perhaps spend a bit on 'goodies'). Or, do I stay at home and get a bit of practice and prep the bikes for the club trial on Sunday ? Sensible suggestions appreciated as I don't have my rational head on right now (or any other time come to think of it) ! GJ

I'd go with Big John on that one. I'm not a Beta man but I've seen this problem at trials and it's raised it's head on here a few times. If this is a manufacturing fault then surely a recall should be on the cards ? Don't know the full ins and outs of the problem but if all you Beta owners kick up enough stink then the dealers should get something done about it ? GJ

Thanks for plugging the poll Tilertrialler (Clicky here) the more votes the better ! I run my TXT 280 on unleaded without any problems, so save a few pence and go for the cheap stuff. Normal unleaded is 95 ron which the previous post says Gas Gas recommend anyhooz. If you have a keen ear and think you hear a bit of 'pinking' or 'knocking' then try Super unleaded at 98 ron and see (hear) if the noise goes away ? GJ

No worries Peter, I'm trying to hit 100 votes to make it (sort of) statistical ? Spread the word. Like yourself, I'm old school and use 50:1 with mineral oil and 60:1 with fully synthetic (reasoning? synthetic is more expensive so if I use 60:1 I get 1 free bottle for every 10 I buy) ! Scots through and through and of course I'm not being serious. There are many reasons why people chose their prefered ratios I suppose but I'll stick with mine, it works for me. Hope the weathers nice in NZ, it's tropical up here in Jockland ! GJ

You could whip off the rotor cover and use one of THESE ? Seems a cheap enough solution to what you require ? Might even buy one myself at that price GJ

Interesting thread as I too have a small field which is used as a practice area. I'm lucky enough not to have any close neighbours though, but it still grieves me how we're dictated to as how we use our own property. Yes, of course there are limitations as to how inventive we can be in land use. Windfarms, nuclear power stations etc are probably outwith our means but the truth is, no matter what you do with it, someone will complain. Keeping todays youth occupied in something other than games consoles, underage drinking, vandalism etc is surely a good thing ? Why are these people so damned petty ? It makes me MAD (as someone used to say) ! Carry on doing what you're doing but if it goes further perhaps you could start a petition ? I'd sign it for sure GJ

Firstly, welcome to the most enjoyable sport you can participate in with your clothes on ! Be warned though, trials is more addictive than deep fried mars bars ! Watchin your vid I did notice one thing that would greatly affect your stance and mine too if I was there........ You're jumping over a gas bottle !!!!! Not only that, it looks as though there's a dead animal tied to it ?????? Find a nice tree or something that won't explode and see if that helps ? Just to satisfy my curiousity..... Do any of the boffins out there know what percentage air there is in the final 'mix' as opposed to fuel/oil ? i.e. when the piston has pulled the vapour mix into the barrel (BDC) how much of that capacity is air ? (For arguement and easiness lets say it's a 100cc engine) Just thinking in the great scale of things, once it's all mixed up and in there the actual amount of oil must be fairly negligible wether its 50:1 or 100:1 or somewhere in between ? I used to run at 50:1 before the last forum like this. I now run 60:1. Perhaps I'll go 70:1 after this ?????? GJ

Sounds like it's working fine to me ? If it's cutting in and out then the thermostat is doing its job but if you have any doubts, stick a new thermostat in (though it'll probably be just the same). Double check your coolant level as a low level will confuse the thermostat and also make the engine run hot.
