  1. Job well done Biff... When we saw you in the parking lot and you informed us of your plan we all agreed you were the right guy for the job. Looks like you had room for a Oset bike as well. I am sure thats what everyone puts in the trunk of a Lincoln MKZ.
  2. Zippy Yes, the Beta's are much more than just a trials bike.... It not unusual to see them performing work on the farm. Stump pulling, hauling hay wagons, plowing fields you know normal stuff. Sam On a serious note I really did not need a new tire in Colorado last year. Traction was so great! That was in Cotapaxi. Hopefully I do not show up in Canyon City with a wore out Dunlop and find its all slick clay. Anybody have a good Canyon City source we can ask about terrain? I'd hate to destroy another good tire yet I'd hate to show up with rounded corners at a mud event also. I should ask Jim if he's going...
  3. 500cc on oil change. 550cc on engine rebuild.
  4. Jim Well that would of of made sense but it just never occured to me.. Now that Sam is going it just seems easy to pull off. Paul? Not real sure who Paul is??? kinda thought you knew him? Oh yeah, remember to put a new tire on for Colorado... I did that last year! Yeah, that was real smart! New to goo in about 1 loop.
  5. Zippy Don't tell her your going...Just come up missing for 4 days....We will smack you around a little and do our part to make it look like you were held against your will.. Well it never worked for me but it may for you anyway??? Maybe we should get Sam a parrot to keep him company? Just think of the words that parrot will know when he gets to Colorado? Sam, at least if the van breaks down you could pull the van and trailer with one of the Beta's..
  6. Ok Sam you talked me into it, I'll throw my bike into the works.. I have been kicking around the idea of going anyways. I bet if we work hard enough on Jim he will go? We should mention it to Paul also? so as it stands you have 4 bikes. is that counting your bike or did you find another drifter? seems like a TI guy would bite on it.
  7. See Andyss post for a faster link. Post is on the front page of Beta forum on top. Post is labeled "08 2T with Keihin Carb" Setting the float to this spec eliminated all issues with my 270.
  8. Great event Sam! Perfect weather and the best turn out we have seen at a MOTA event in 25 years! Thanks for all of the hard work you put into it. Sections were tough on Sat but everything was safe. For myself I just wasn't in good enough shape to be able to work my controls for 4 loops. I think others had the same problem. It was fun to have to ride the bigger stuff. Now that down hill on section 6 (Sun) well that's another story..Thank's for leaving the EXP line open on that one! Thanks Again and great job!!
  9. It is not the bar that paint comes off it is the bar mounts. They bars I am sure are some type of anodized coating and seem to hold up well as always.
  10. Sam I was reading the link and do find it hard to believe that a spectator at an AMA event must have a letter from both parents. Just think of the indoor supercross's that have 60,000 spectators with 50-60% of those being minors. Maybe arena events will be exempt. Still outdoor motorcross has a huge spectator base and so does flat track and not to mention the slowely growing sport of trials. Thanks for putting the word out. I think untill we understand this we should all pass the form onto friends that may want to come spectate in the future. Looks like the AMA has had enough lawsuits to warrent this extreme measure. The only good I can see is it may give the private land owner more safety. It will be hard to turn people away that took the time to come watch the event. Each club should make sure they have plenty of copies at sign up however most of the time both parents do not show up at events. Thanks for the update.
  11. First time I've had this problem but on the 08 Rev the bar clamps are painted and the paint was seperating from the clamp causing the bars to slip. I guess I had not even noticed the clamps were painted and just assumed they were raw cast but after removing to investigate what was causing the slipping I noticed the paint bubbles and flaking inside the clamp. A quick wire brush and back in action. I never noticed this or at least never had a bar slip on my 07? Just something to check before you get into an event and have bars move on you.
  12. Zippy Wrote: Can I ride Beginner class? Maybe if you try really hard......
  13. Sam Could your list the year that qualifies for the vintage class. I am sure this will encourage some to drag the old bikes out.
  14. Sounds great Sam. From the sounds of it you may very well put on the largest MOTA event of the year. If you get some of the T.I. guys to ride you will have some great competition in the ADV & EXP class for sure!!
  15. Thanks for the tips Sam.. I think I'll switch to the studded ice racing tire for the rear, it should hook up well on the big tires and mud sections... I am sure the event will be a great time for all. Heck if all goes well you may even have another snow storm hit just in time Zippy...What's this "practice" you speak of?
  16. Any 1 1/8" fat bar will fit. Finding the dimensions you want will be the tough part. The factory Beta bars are wider than anything in the aftermarket world I've found. Renthal makes the Lampkin bend in a fat bar that is always a good choice. Width = 820mm Height = 100mm sweep = 50 degrees
  17. Anybody have the fork fluid amounts on a 1999 TXT 270. For ref on my part lets call Left and right side "as sitting on the bike." Also want to confirm 5 weight oil was standard. Either the amount in CC's or distance from the top while fork is compressed is fine. Thanks in advance.
  18. Biff,Biff,Biff.....You got me wondering why I even looked at that one..... Funny stuff!!
  19. Zippy Well at least everything went together perfect without any unexpected problems.....Alright I can't say that with a straight face.... Glad to hear its alive and ready for battle.
  20. Another area we found some improvement in was the front brake caliper. A good cable lube was done on the front brake cable and brake caliper was tore apart and greased. Lever also. I also thru a old pair of Vans brake shows onto the caliper, they are softer than the stock pads. My 3 year old just wasn't strong enough to really pull the lever in hard enough to really get the caliper to grap. The lubing and the softer pads seemed to stop better with the same amount of energy applied to the lever compared to stock pads. I am sure any bicycle stop can set you up with a soft set of caliper brake pads for around $5-$8
  21. Zippy Maybe you and I should look into producing a video of "habits not to fall into" during trials training?? Just a thought??? Plenty of videos on the market showing proper training both on and off the bike.. Maybe its time for a good old bad habit video.. Between a half dozen of us MI guys we could really come up with something??
  22. I should have mentioned on my last post not to over do the oil. You just want enough to help filter the dust out and not risk dripping into intake causing a rich ( oil to fuel) condition
  23. Like Tony stated use a good air cleaner oil designed for foam filters. Some oils are designed for paper, cotton elements. Some other tips are to spray the oil into the inside of the filter and to work it in. Inside meaning the side that is open to outside air. I also run a very light coat of grease around the edge of my filters to help the filter stay in place better during assembly and to create a better seal to keep dust out. Something that is done alot on enduro bikes.
  24. Dan As mentioned in my first post (step #2) the clutch clean up was performed. He has over 6 hours in fileing, sanding and polishing of the clutch assembly. I believe he is working on "doing it right" Thats why he is looking at reducing efforts by keeping all 6 springs! I think some are getting a little side tracked from the topic. Neil, your reply is what I was looking for. Thank You. There is not a problem with the factory clutch efforts he is just trying to reduce the effort as much as possiable. All should expect to see gains after file work, sanding and polishing has been done, he is just curious if he can shim without clutch slipping. Since it is difficult to test at this time in our state I was looking for others that have tried this. We understand shims will eventually cause the clutch to slip but like Neil King said it seems to be the better of the 2 options between removing springs and shimming. His efforts to ruduce clutch efforts are driven by age and a wrist that gives him trouble on that last loop at every event. Every little bit may help and could benefit many with similar concerns.
  25. Last year 100% of the 5 new 2007 Beta's sold in Michigan all had the kill switches fail. Not a matter of if but when. We normally switch to the Yamaha style switch. I will have to assume that the kill switch problem has not been fixed and I will replace the one on my new 08 Rev as well.. To bad Beta took the time to have the trickest looking kill switch on the market that is useless.
