So this years World Champoinship is over and we have had a year to see the NoStop rules play out . Will the rules be revised for next year to make the scoring consistant ? I hope some serious thought goes into this process and the riders thoughts as well as the spectators are considered . What would most like to see ???
-
Have to agree with the comments the videos clearly show subjective scoring ,no way for the World Chamlionship to be decided no mater which rider or Team you support . I intended to go to the next round in the USA but if the videos are an example of what we will see then we will be missing seeing the best riders in the world riding at their best . I think the FIM will need to quickly revise their position and scoring .I will not attend a watered down version ,with the result at the descretion of the checkers and not the riders . What a shame it is to hear both the riders and the checkers having big concerns about the system we now have . I will be interested to see if the FIM respond !!!!! I guess not all change is good !!
-
I have watched the FIM video several times and also some old world rounds ( 1980’s) back in the day riders stopped & that was ok unless you put your foot down, then unless you moved it was a 5 .
The latest rules as they are shown will be very subjective and without a video replay (like other sports) you will be at the mercy of the checker .
No matter what the checker does he or she will be called out by the riders who get an unfavorable call .
I would not want to be a checker , .
Personally I would hate to see the championship being decided by a Questionable call at some event !!!!
I guess time will tell if it can be made to work .
I would made a suggestion that a different score could be used .
0 ,1, 2, 3, would be the same , a stop as described in the video would be a 5 with a warning sound , and a complete failure would be a 10 ( or perhaps some other number combinations could work) the point would be to reward movement and also using one smart stop if it prevented complete failure .( 10 points)
I think it has merit just something else to think about . Gbee

Seem to remember way back when the points system had a 10 for a failure . What if you changed the points system and allowed stop or no-stop . clean = 0 , a 1,2,3 same as long as you remain in the no-stop mode , if you choose to make a stop ( hop and line up ,perhaps even back up etc ) then that = 5 points . if you fail the section then that could = 10 points . Thinking outside the box !!! but the idea may work if it is discussed and the points described above could be tweaked to suit . cheers

Hi I have used the method of heating the brake system by riding with the brake on then soaking with clean cool water on my Aprilia some years ago ,and it worked like a charm !!!!!! I think it is just a simple cleaning method , and I never was able to get the disc or pads super hot from riding with the brake on ,but hot enough to clean . Good luck. I think its the 3M scotch-brite pad leaving a residue on the disc and pads ,I stoped using ,when I felt how it affected my brakes . Gbee

Sad to hear I knew Chris from my days at Sprite ,Great guy !!!!!

Just wondering if the problem has been solved yet ???? if so can you give us an update ?? cheers Gordon

If I remember from my 315 days ,I think you have a reserve position on the fuel pet cock valve . So you can ride until the main supply is used (and determine time or distance ) then switch to the reserve and ride back to your fuel supply. I also seem to remember riding for a couple of hours without running out . Hope this helps !! Gordon

Don't know if we will have Montesa or Honda in the future ,but I for one am very happy with my 2005 model . I have read the posts and would like to confirm that grip was a problem for me also to begin with .
I tried a different riding style and with practice did improve the grip feeling. BUT I still had a Hero (0) or Zero (5) point were if I was very exact with the throttle control I was a Hero ,but if I was just a little off then I turned into a Zero lost grip and could not gain it back.
I solved this problem (for me and my riding style) by installing the two stage PTB, with the help and advice from several folks on this site and other Montesa riders and dealers . I came up with a setting that I love . I can get grip in slick conditions ,loose it ( by poor control) and gain it back . I keep the idle set at 1800 rpm ,and it does lug like a two stroke . It did take some time to figure out how to change the settings (fuel & ignition)to get the desired results (I think I tried about ten changes ) some better than others ,(three steps forward one step back) .
I believe that Honda provided this option thinking it would allow the Bike to be adjusted to suit all riders . I also know that many riders would not want to have to make changes to a Bike that does cost more than most ,( so perhaps they were a little ahead of their time ) but now that the same basic system is on the 250 & 450 MX bikes more people will become more knowledgeable and be able to improve the STD programs .
So for me I hope they ( Montesa/Honda) are still going to be available in the future ,if not as long as spares are available I will continue to enjoy my 4rt .

Any luck solving the problem ????

Woody ,
Are you saying Dave Smith is no longer with us ??? I raced with him and Arthur Browning back in the early 70's when I worked & raced for Sprite . Great Bloke !!! Gordon
