Hi Gaz, young lad in spares dept at Rathmell's said it fits ok, just said straight swap so I bought it. Guess what? the bl**dy thing did n't fit.
However if you reprofile the top shock mount on the frame you will be able to install it. The shock has to be turned upside down to how it fits on the 07 and the damping adjuster screw now fits under the mudguard near the airbox. Bit of hassle removing the mudguard to adjust it each time to find your ideal setting however at least it is kept out of all the mud. If you want a hassle free swap then the TRP or Ohlins would be the way to go as the Olle is about the same price approx

You don't have to spend money to soften the power on the 290, just repostition the ignition backplate slightly using an Allen key and a timing strobe light to retard the ignition slightly.

Always a dangerous thing riding a mates brand new bike as you nearly always end up wanting one yourself.
It's quite hard to get that plush feel with the old shock as all you can change is ride height and stiffen the ride but you are still stuck with the fixed damping. To improve the 03 suspension throw the standard shock away and fit an adjustable unit, it really makes a big difference and added to that is that you can fine tune the damping to suit your riding style. I've fitted the Olle 07 shock to my 04 but with a different rear spring as the 07 spring is too long. It's made a big difference to the feel of the bike and I'm very pleased with the improvement to the bike especially on rocks and steps. I've seen Ohlins advertised and also there is a TRP shock available as well so there is scope for improvement on the rear suspension, which was always the weakest point on a Sherco.

My 07 shock has a tiny black allan grub screw in the spring collar ring. Make sure you have tightened it to stop the collar from rotating, if it was loose then it might have fallen out.

Thanks AtomAnt, most replies about the fourstroke have been about it's poor starting, it's nice to talk about the bike purely on it's strength's and weakness's.
-
Checked "My controls" and everything was ok and all boxes ticked. Spooky The time posted on my reply to the Sherco forum changed from 06.57 pm to 07.57pm within a couple of minutes of me mentioning the time difference.
Edit.
Just been playing around with the time zone settings and it does change the clock on the forum. My settings obviously had nt kicked in yesterday. (Lazy bl**dy computers)
Hope your tea was nice Andy

It was nt correct at 8 o clock when I posted about the four stroke Sherco (It was showing 7 o clock). Within three minutes it had been changed by your team.
-
Just noticed the time is wrong on the forums, did n't the clocks go forward at Trials Central.
-
How did the Sherco four stroke compare to the 290, has anybody had both? Forget the gremlins side of things, I am interested in the power delivery and grip comparisons between both bikes.
-
Graham Jarvis won the Cleveland last week on the new revised four stroke Sherco 320. Seems the factory might have got this one sorted after all. Anybody heard any release dates or are they just testing the bike more thoroughly this time?
Four stroke win.

Congratulations to both Becky and Katy on your results yesterday. I was riding at the same time as Becky and was convinced her feet were glued to the pegs. Quite surprised when she told me she had lost 17 as I thought she was in single figures she really was riding that well.
Congratulations to Middlesbrough Motor Club on another excellent Cleveland Trial.
Managed to find these on the Bradford Motor Club site. Cleveland Awards
The results link on the Middlesbrough website is currently down for yesterdays full results.

Just after you Cota, I'm at 71.

I changed the bottom bush on the rear shocker about three months ago. Mine was a 290 2004 with the Sachs rear shock. Got the part through the local dealer via MRS. Cost about

Another new rider not knowing about dodgy Sherco clutches from cold.

Deleted link as other material on this website could be about war.

Sherco parts website gives a part number C115 for the radiator on the 04 models.

Results are on the Scarborough website now.

Nice one Perce, a game I can do better than the kids. I clocked a 27.9 at my sixth attempt, my first four wiped out the other parked cars and the fifth was a 44.5

If Ryan does not do the spring anymore there is also Faulkner Springs who do various spring lengths and rates. You would need to know the inside diameter, it's length and the poundage rate of the standard spring . I'm not sure how much you would have to uprate the poundage rate by to get satisfactory results. If you go up too much on the poundage then the shock may not be able to control the spring properly.
I believe they make springs for motorbikes, racing cars and also mountain bikes hence the large selection.
Hope this helps.

Your Sherco dealer or Rathmells for the piston and rings, gaskets, seals etc. The only saving you are going to make is on the bearings from a local stockist.
-
Not sure but you may be able to locate a bearing from a bearing supplier/ stockist. Sherco will source their bearings from a large manufacturer, your problem may arise if they have had them made specially for their engines. I replaced my suspension bearings for about a third of the price and they were from the same manufacturer. Piston's and rings will definetely be a Sherco purchase.
-
Not sure I'm following this, does your bike only need a big end bearing? I was under the impression you needed piston, rings etc and it was a non starter.
-
What sort of price would it fetch if running properly?
