Unless a spacer has been added by a previous owner then your bike being an 04 will not have one. The factory started fitting them in 05 and I think they changed the exhaust front pipe as well.
Are you trying to soften the power even further or merely curious to see what the standard power should be?
-
Standard gearing on the 290 is 10-42. The 2005 bikes came with a spacer as you describe to soften the power.
-
Thanks for putting on a really enjoyable trial, I rode the Clubman A course and it was spot on for a Saturday night.
-
The delta link is still showing part no C157 the same as previous years bikes. Last change was 2004 I think.

Is this Andy driving the Subaru then! Have a look. Borac driving the Lada! Nice

It's near Redcar on the A174 dual carriageway close to Greystones Roundabout.

Is Vince the importer of Xispa or a dealer?
-
Out of interest, was the last Uk bike the CCM/Armstrong or the Majesty?

Might it be that the problem is your kickstarter and cogs and that the kickback is only a symptom of this. I know that if I was not getting a full swing on my bike then it would definetly kickback on me every time without question. Try to get the kickstarter and cogs sorted out first, then if you still have a problem maybe look at woodruff key or even a faulty stator plate.

Don't think he's Gay Copemech, but I do agree with your comments though as I hate starting mine when wearing normal shoes as it always kicks back when cold. For some reason when I wear my riding boots then kickback is vastly reduced.
I also run mine 5mm retarded as well and it has reduced the kickback, softened the power and illiminated the pinking that I was experiencing.
Only downside is that the first few inches of the exhaust chrome pipe is looking like a bit gold in colour now.

Morning Vasey15, I've got the 07 290 and had it from new. Think some of the early 06 bikes had frames that cracked across the brace under the headstock. If you keep to an 07 then they had been modded so should be ok. The 07 had a better rear shock as well which can be adjusted for damping/rebound.
Make sure the rear suspension has no freeplay or clunking when you lift up the rear of the bike. If it has then it is it will need new bearings and the shock bushes replacing. Total cost about

Just don't drop your bike on rocks on the right hand side as the 4 stroke ignition box looks even more vunerable than the 2 stroker one.

See the organisers have cancelled at the last minute. Paris - Dakar

Agree with the other lads, Renthal chain without a doubt.

A magician worked on a cruise ship. The audience was different each week so the magician did the same tricks over and over again. There was only one problem:
The captain's parrot saw the shows each week and began to understand how the magician did every trick.
Once he understood, he started shouting in the middle of the show,
"Look, It's not the same hat!" or, "Look, he's hiding the flowers under the table!" or "Hey, why are all the cards the ace of spades?"
The magician was furious but couldn't do anything. It was, after all, the Captain's' parrot.
Then one stormy night on the Pacific, the ship unfortunately sank, drowning almost all who were on board. The magician luckily found himself on a piece of wood floating in the middle of the sea, as fate would have it ... with the parrot.
They stared at each other with hatred, but did not utter a word.
This went on for a day... and then 2 days ... and then 3 days. Finally on the 4th day, the parrot could not hold back any longer and said...
"OK, I give up. Where's the f#c**n' ship?"

Local paper had this featured. Funny picture

Remember to reconnect your rear shock top mount as well, Have you put an uprated rear shock/spring on your bike as the springs are normally yellow?
-
I did manage on my own but it was a case of wishing I had another pair of hands helping at the time. I seem to recall having one hand holding the engine stopping it from moving, another hand holding and moving the frame and then wondering when everything was lined up perfectly, how the heck do I now get the engine bolts in? If you can chock the engine at the right angle it does make life a lot easier, leaving you with both hands free to manipulate the frame and once lined up, put in the bolts. Good luck
-
So do we assume your new Topic title will be,
"Help! how do I get the Sherco engine back in the frame?"
-
Not sure about that Beta Bodger, I think it's American slang meaning "are you up for a fight or a challenge"
Where's Copemech when you need him?
-
What does "feel froggy" mean Copemech, could you explain, Thanks.
-
Are you talking yourself in to having a go next year then Cota?
-
Some good footage of Bye-Pass 3 there wetfeet, not sure Andrew will thank you though for showing his attempt!

That's my neck of the woods, worrying times indeed. Does your mate ride at Charlton's or did he ride at the Middlesbrough Trial at Lazenby last weekend? My biggest fear is that some scumbag follows you home from these places and then comes back for your bike later on. It happened to my mate about five years ago, he did a trial and on the night his bike went. Pure coincidence maybe but he always felt he had been followed home after the trial.
