I would do what everybody on here has been trying to tell you. Ring Rathmalls, get the proper parts and do it properly. It will be quicker in the long run and and the bike should sound sweet as it has just had a new piston etc. Imagine fitting the cheaper parts and you start it up and it sounds like a bag of hammers. You will then have to get the original parts to do the job properly and you will be seriously peed off and broke! To save a bit of money just ask your Dad if he can reduce his labour charges a bit as you are broke after Xmas.
-
Fair enough. Still think the outcome is the same though.
-
You are giving us the impression that you want it fixed as cheap as possible to get rid and the next buyer will get the problems.
If you are going to do a job Jamie then do it properly, dont do a bodgit repair as one of us might be the eventual buyer of your bike.

I nearly always buy my fuel on the morning of the event or the day before, so the fuel is relatively fresh and always from the local superstore site with a high turnover of fuel. Never really suspected the fuel as I always thought it was water based from streams etc getting through the airbox. I always clean the air filter before each event and clean the carb every two events usually. Air box and mudguard area is well sealed with silicone.
On a slightly different note, the thing I have never been happy about recently is that I always ran breather tubes from my carb overflows/vents up high under the tank out of harms way and the carbs remained clean. The last two bikes have not had these overflow tubes as manufacturers reckon water can get sucked up them, to be honest I'm sure this is the point where crap is getting in to my carb and am thinking of going back to fitting long breather tubes to these vents again.

Parts information on Sherco website lists them as gaskets of different thickness's. Correct me if I am wrong but it does not say spacers, I would think you would remove the original gasket and replace it with one of the new thicker gaskets. There are three extra gaskets of different thickness's listed as well as the original.

Best thing I ever did was retard the ignition on my Sherco. Made the bike much smoother in the power delivery and the bike gripped a lot better as well. It also stopped the kickback that happened sometimes on starting as well.
-
Have you checked your garage, might be a shiny new Sherco in there!
-
Thanks Copemech.
If you have nobody to hold the rear wheel up for you, try using a hydraulic car trolley jack under the rear tyre to raise or lower the wheel as necessary. Does the job just as well as the helper but does not say a lot or drink as much!

Just had a thought, when you cleaned you carb did you blow through the two very small holes situated on the mouth of the inlet side of the carb (airbox side). They can easily block as they are very fine drillings. I think if I remember correctly, that one is connected to the pilot jet area which if blocked may cause erratic pickup from tickover. Sometimes I find a slime like substance is blown out on my carb when I do this. If you have already done this then apologies. Good luck.
Have downloaded this link, page 15 shows the two holes in the carb inlet mouth.

You did turn the fuel tap on did n't you Have you checked the filter on the carb where the fuel line attaches. Sherco changed the ignition systems on the 04 bikes to Leonelli, might be worth checking the stator and like Brian R says, have you checked the plug, cap and lead. Also if you have a kill switch fitted is that playing up.

Congratulations on your new bike 4RT guru . Noticed you live in the Deep South, would that be in the USA or UK ?
-
Think you forgot : ring ring ring, ring ring ring, dooaaaa!
Is the bike misfiring or just not running smoothly like it normally does?
-
There was a guy selling his Gasgas Ohlins shock on here last week as he had gone Sherco and the Gasgas shock would not fit. Would not recommend it anyway as it will be valved and have a spring to suit the Gasgas not the Sherco.
-
-
At www.zonetrial.com they are 479 euros. Not seen them advertised in the UK.
Where can you buy the Ohlins shock from?
-
Bloody Hell BillyT, that Scorpa must be giving you some stress. Reading Sideup's original post, the first part of his post was recommending to use your tips on the carb. The second part of his reply was recommending his own tip about coiling a spring around the pipe to protect it from the exhaust. I think he was just giving the guy some advice on Beta carbs not getting in to a war of words.

Before starting your bike put it into top gear, pull in the clutch and rock the bike backwards and forwards. Initially it will feel like it is stuck in gear however after a few rocks it will free itself and then freewheel. After this put the bike back in to neutral and then try starting it. Being doing this trick for years and usually works. If the bike has been stood in the garage for a few weeks I usually let the bike warm up as well before putting in to gear.
-
I think the original post was to see if the 07 bike was carrying over the mods from the Cabestany.
-
Are you going to be supplying fuel for the Scottish Six Days as well.
-
I think the difference between bikes is the Keihin carb and fatbars.
-
Out of interest, does anybody know how the two strokes managed on that section.
-
Washing machines normally have a trap just before the water pump, this is to stop coins from damaging the water pump impellor. Try to have a look at your user instructions to locate the trap on your machine, your buckle may be in there.
-
Maybe you were not looking forward to the lighter fuel method but we certainly were.
For sale: One smoke damaged rear wheel may need new rim tape and some alloy welding.
